  1. Michael Pineda from The Baytown Sun - Barbers Hill senior Jared Smith is blessed with athletic ability. Smith was the district champion last year in the 100-meter dash and holds the school record in the 40-yard sprint with a time of 4.31 seconds. Smith is also a receiver for the Eagles and until his junior year, he was a member of the baseball team. When Barbers Hill athletic director Don Price received an application to recommend an athlete for Reliant Energy’s Scholarship for Champions –Building Strong Minds and Bodies program, selecting Smith was a no-brainer as far as Price was concerned. Price was proved right as Smith was one of eight Houston area athletes awarded a scholarship by Reliant. It was not Smith’s athletic ability or a GPA of over 3.0, which swayed Price and Reliant, it was the fact that the senior is performing at a high level despite having cystic fibrosis.(click link below for article) [Hidden Content]
  2. The quote was from the Chronicle not me. That is what they posted after the game. It has since been corrected.
  3. I have to agree that Mason had a great performance. The Chronicle thought so also. Here is what they just posted: "Mason Fisher of Barbers Hill went over the top of the New Caney defender to snag a 28 yard touchdown pass. rushed for three touchdowns and threw for two others." Just amazing! (Both, the performance and the reporting.)
  4. The girls ended up in 2nd. The Llano team was DQ.
  5. Well, I haven't startied looking yet at possible volleyball matchups. I plan to do that next week. As far as district championships, we very well could have 4 before football finishes the regular season.
  6. Personally, I like the photo of the hamburger. I'd pay double if the Booster Club would serve up burgers like that!
  7. The Barbers Hill volleyball team edged a little closer to recording the school's first Class 4A district championship when they swept C.E. King 3-0 Tuesday night. Barbers Hill extends their district record to 11-0 and 26-7 for the year. The Eagles will host New Caney Friday in their final home district contest. Game time for the varsity will be 4:30. Game Scores BH varsity over King 25-15, 25-9, 25-13 BH JV over King JV 25-12, 25-9 Record: 23-1; 11-0 BH 9th over King 25-8, 25-18 Record 22-2; 10-0
  8. No, of course Mason isn't exchanging jerseys. Just a response to all those who are clamoring about doing something about the center snaps. There have been 4 centers used in the 5 games played. It isn't that the players and coaches aren't trying to solve the problem. But in our offense, the center position requires a lot more skill than a normal center or a deep snapper. The snaps look fine in practice but game conditions present different challenges. Sometimes you just have trouble finding a center who can do it without having bad snaps. Or maybe some of the snaps are not really that bad. But they get mishandled by a relative inexperience QB. To me, the skill of doing a blind snap and taking off to go make a block is more difficult than punting a football. In punting, the ball is snapped to you and you just kick it. But there are some seasons where you can line up practically the whole team and practice every day. Yet it may be difficult to find some one who can kick the ball farther than 25-30 yards down the field. I know that this is the first time for these players to perform at the varsity level and that might be part of the trouble. But I have faith that the problems will be resolved soon.
  9. Reportedly could be the best in Barbers Hill history. Player had to exchange his #12 jersey though for #59. Snaps are grest but fans howl that new center doesn't hold his block on 300 lb. nose guards.

  13. Nice reply Eagletown. I just don't know about the 95% statement. It seems like a few BH posters pretty much dominate criticizing the coaches on this board. Shucks, I don't think I have read where any other team's posters have made critical comments about their school's coach. But I don't read all the topics so your 95% may be accurate.

  21. Hey, it may be worth a try.
  22. WO-S: Played as I expected. Very good skill players and better than average lineman play. BH did not do justice for your QB. I thought he handled the running game well but he will need to improve on his passing. Some of his passes stayed in the air way too long. Against a better team, he would have been shaking his head and going to the sidelines instead of down the field. I also thought he locked on his primary receivers too long on some passes. But he had that luxury against us. Hopefully, that says something for their offensive line. BH: For us, this was a good scrimmage match-up. It gave us a good idea of the type of teams we may be facing. As noted by almost everyone, WO-S exploited our major weaknesses (and minor ones if we had any). Offensively, we have a QB who has not played that position before. We will find out if he is a quick learner. Unfortunately for him, he has to play behind one of the most inexperienced lines BH has fielded in a while. The center is a sophmore and as far as I know he has not played that position either. We were to return only 1 starter and 3 lineman who had played sparingly some last year. One of the 3 decided not to play this year. The starter was on the sideline with a cast on his foot. Thus, you got to see a helter-skelter drill on offense. And you have mention that we were facing what is suppose to be a better than average defense. Defensively, I think we will be okay. A few of the players may have gotten the most playing time they will see this year. It was good for them to experiience the speed and quickness of the Mustangs. If some guys don't step up early, I look for BH to lock down the best 11 on defense and go to a basic offense. I know the wolves will start howling about being predictable but I hope some remember the play from last night. Personally, I still feel that offense is pretty but defense is the grime that gets the job done. And in the end, its about winning the game.
  23. Man, I''m glad it was only a scrimmage. No telling what this pile-up would have looked like if it was a real game. It looked like both teams came out okay injury wise. But I did think they were going to have to bring in the medics when Hooks started chasing the ref with his cart late in the 4th period.
