Good luck. That sounds like alot of fun.

There are alot of good Coaches and great players that never get the chance to go play in that tournament. Have fun!

What time please?

Congratulations to Vidor from Orange.

A lot of teams put their A team as the #2 team. There is only going to be 1 Winner of the tournament so it really shouldnt matter if you loose early or late. If the attitude is that the B team cant beat another town's A team then why have a B team at ALL?? That is exactly my question. That was the reason I started asking about it in the first place and why I was so upset. I grew up playing Little League Rules in soft ball because nothing else was available and we always had just one team to take in the all-stars. The idea of having two teams per city throws me for a loop. I just wanted to know the reasoning behind it. Like i said before this is our first year in all-stars playing the PONY League. My son does not know the LL way of doing things. If the teams, both A and B are supposed to be equal, then why do coaches allways pick the best of the best as the A team and then go through the lineup as the B team. If the teams are equal and supposed to be able to beat anybody, why not keep the teams as they are supposed to be in the first place and not do the whole switching around thing just to get to the end of the bracket? Ultimately to me people look at the route that has the weekest/easiest teams to be them put their best teams in that particular line up. I dont know about other cities but our two teams were not matched up evenly. Our B team was the younger/weaker of the two. From what I understand so far that is the way it works with most cities and that is why the choice is made to put an A team as a B team to get further at all costs. Please dont take that the wrong way. Being a new comer to baseball itself, this is just how I have seen things done and again it is just my opinion. I dont know why Groves itself does not do that, it is a learining experience. As far as all-stars goes, I do not put him up for it, he earned it and was chosen. And as long as he wants to play, he will play. As of right now he still wants to give it all he has and I am proud of him for that. I will not however push him to do something he does not want to do. I however now see why some people are going to LL instead of PONY. He however likes the challenges he faces and the competition in the PONY league. He thinks it is fun. I think I understand where the confusion is coming into play. The teams are not supposed to be equal. On the "A" team you pick what is considered the 12 best players. On the "B" team you pick what is considered to be the next best 12. Taking into consideration that all of this is opinion and like it or not there is some politics in most of it. I think we in Orange have gotten alot of it out but I am not naive enough to think and I'm not dumb enough to say it out loud that we have gotten rid of all of it. The reason for two teams is that it gives the next 12 an opportunity to experience all-stars. In theory hopefully this team is made up of some kids that will be on the "A" team next year. The reason behind chosing A or B once you get the bracket (I'm speaking why I make my choice only) is to see which path gives your team the best chance to advance. My theory here being, I ask my kids to give me all they have so I do everything I can as a coach to put them in the situation that gives them the best chance to win. It has nothing to do with who I will play. I always choose the shortest path to the Championship game. If I have the option for a bye then I take that route. If both paths are equal then I choose based on what time the games are and what times fit my schedule best.

Thanks

When and where does Orange play next?

GT Yellow Jackets has a 13U or 14U team. However the season is just about over. I will pass the information on to the coach and have him plst when tryouts will be.
-
If you are not going to let him play then you should not even put him up for all-stars. If you put him up and he is selected and then you don't let him play then you have just taken a spot from another deserving kid that wants to play.
-
I agree that a coach owes it to his kids to question calls. If I ask my kids to give me everything they have on every play then I owe them the same thing. I just have to do it in a manner that I don't embarrass myself, my kids or any of my parents. That being said, I'm not saying that either guy didn't do that. I was just making a point.

Corey, right back at you. We have always enjoyed playing Vidor and Groves. This topic is one of the reasons my son and I are not playing/coaching all-stars this year. It got pretty ugly last year also. Chad That goes for me too Corey Vidor was a good group to coach and play against last year. I'm not coaching and my boys aren't playing this year either. I can say that one difference between all-stars and select ball is that the coaches get along. I have shared ideas and strategies with teams from Nederland and Bridge City. Those are the two teams that we have either scrimmaged or just gotten to know. don't get me wrong you still have a few coaches that get out of hand but most of the coaches are there to help kids regardless of where they are from. Speaking of that I would love to have kids come tryout for my team next year. I will post it when time comes. It doesn't matter to us if you live in TC, Vidor, Groves, or any of the other surrounding cities. All that matters to us is that your child want to first learn the game second want to have fun and the third thing usually takes care of itself if we (as coaches and parents) take care of the first two. The third thing being wants to win. Hey Td I coached the allstars with Cory Last year and my baby boy played left field on the shetland team and is now playing short on this years team. What age group are you going to put together? We are plyaing 9UAA this year and my 7 and 9 year olds both play on that team. I will be moving up to 10U but I think we have a guy coming in to do a 9U team again. I will keep everything updated for tryouts. I remember your baby boy. If he is half as good at shortstop as he was a left fielder last year then there are some teams in trouble. Both of my boys decided they wanted to playin the State tournament and the World Series instead of all-stars so I didn't put either one of them up.

Congratulations to Vidor and to TC. Have fun in Irving Vidor. Make the most of it. Make sure you and the kids get the full experience. We went in Shetland and again in Pinto. It's a ton of fun but easy to get caught up in winning and losing. The kids may never get to go back so make sure they enjoy the whole experience. I know yall will represent the Golden Triangle well. Have fun and good luck from Orange and td.

I don't know who you are but we were either playing together or the tradition may have continued after I was gone but that is exactly what and where I was talking about. One of my other favorite things was the opening day parade we used to have at Wesco. [/quote I remember that parade I walked Darby Breaux in it one year. I was so nervous I couldnt talk to her. I would never change my little league days, but i do wish I had more instruction back then. I do wish we had some of the opportunities our kids have. Walking the sweetheart was one of the most nerve racking this a boy could have done in those day. Anyone old enough to remember when the guy in the Planters peanut suit was out for opeining day one year?
-
I still go to the old park from time to time and play with my kids on the old witches hat. I'm also lucky enough to have gotten permission from the Crush group to practice out there from time to time. I can still see myself sitting on the score board putting up the numbers for the score. Long before anyone had electric scoreboards. Watching Patty and Gina play softball. No $300 bats in those days.

I played for the owls and then the Skippers way before you played. I was graduating from High School in '84. I'm glad to see the tradition continued on. I loved those purple All-Star uniforms. We didn't get new uniforms every year. We were so proud to be issued that purple uniform. Then we had to turn it back in. My boys are 8 and 9 and I got one of the all -star uniforms when Wesco was on it's way out. They still wear it today. Makes me so proud. What great memories.

We were always at the ball park, even when we didn't have a game. We all gather up some cups and if we were lucky some foil and make a ball and play cup ball. Chasing the foul balls was one of my favorites. The day we brought softball into the league was a great day for an 11 and 12 year old boy. That being said, I still make sure that my boys spend some time playing wall ball and eating snow cones. Our boys also have it alot better than we did. They have the opportunity to have lessons and learn how to pitch and hit. I wouldn't trade my days for anything but I think I could have been a better ball player if I had some of the opportunities that our kids have today.

Orange also plays fall ball.

I wish I could have read it that way. It made no sense to me. He said he didn't even know if he had been offered the job. -

I have never seen so many contradictions in one article. That was the most confusing thing I have read in a long time. -
What I would say about that is that if I ask a kid whatever the age to give me everything he has to give on the field then as a coach I should do everything I can to give the kid every advantage I can.

I don't think that the guy that's coaching them comes to this site. I'm not even sure who is coaching the second team so I can't say about him. I know I haven't heard anything about Shetland and which team they are taking. Maybe it's a top level secret.
