Why do people have to stir up crud over youth sports? Both wos and BC have great teams in Jr.high! They are 13-14 year old young men who give their all ! That's why we are there...to support them! Win or lose! Was it nice to see BC win last year? YES! But wos never gives up! In my opinion after 12plus years in BC youth football...that's why BC is better!! Teams like wos showing us to never give up! Also all of our transplant wos dads who have taught that wos tradition to BC football! And yes I'm ready for some 8th grade football this year! Go BC! Thanks, RoyAdams
Good Post Roy and thanks td
Thanks, i first thought it might be an STX brand that I bought in Dallas a couple of years ago for my boys. Sounds similar. We were able to choose the colors, the webbing and alot more. They sewed the boys name in the glove and they are good gloves also.

Who makes the gloves? What is the brand name?

Congrats Kody.

As I understand it they can release them if the coaches agree to. BC is the only one left so they much have agreed with themselves. :) Congrats to all on the list.

Amen Rake. We have the right coach. We still have some growing pains to come but as long as Coach Landry continues to teach baseball the right way we will get there. Coach Landry if you read this forum don't listen to the nonsense. Baseball people know that you are doing in right. I'm a dad with two kids coming up. It will be a few years but it's my hope that you are there to coach them at WOS. Again we have the right coach. -
Still looking for the right player.

If you ever get a chance to go, do not pass it up. Last year was my first time and I saw the Thursday round. Course is way more than you can imagine. The azaleas have already bloomed this year but I did get to see them last year. We were walking up to #16 as the guy skipped it across the water for a hole in one. That is something to see.
I have been 4 times. First two years saw Thursday-Friday rounds. Other two years was there for practice rounds.
The grass is just the most amazing thing to see. It's like turf. No weeds and no dead spots. That's what impressed me the most. What about you?
How much are tickets?
Tickets are only $50 a day for practice rounds. Actually the same for tournament rounds but the badge is for all 4 days. The travel and the stay is what gets you. It's worth every penny. The course is what I wanted to see. You can see the golfers at the Shell Houston Open. Don't get me wrong they are fun to watch but the Masters experience is what I enjoyed the most. I think it's in May you can put your name in a lottery for practice rounds and even tournament rounds some years. Other than that you have to buy tickets from someone. Can't walk up and buy tickets. Good luck!

For me and my biased opinion I will choose the Mustangs. Hard to pull against Coach Trawhon so I won't. I will just pull for the Mustangs.

Funny stuff. I have no idea why and really dont care, bottom line this could have all been avoided if what? Say it.........if what? Thank you! For you to come on here and bash the parents and question our coaches leadership and loyality simply proves your name is very accurate. Not going to speak for Allen but theres no doubt in my mind he cares about EVERY kid on that field his team or not but his loyalty is exactly where it should be, with Prospect Baseball and the kids that bust thier tails for him. Tony Babino
I knew that I could get a spirited response from you. In Nations, I dont think you can protest the roster once the game has begun, at least that is what I recall. Bottom line, its a technical mistake, we have all made it and they took advantage of it. Dont really care why, but its no way to win a tournament for your team. And, what I mean is that you have a very talented team and I would have hoped for a different response from this situation. I would have expected a lesser quality team to have done this for a chance for a tournament victory, not you guys! Take it as a compliment because your guys will have plenty of victories and tournament wins this season without having to protest. That was my point, just because you found a glitch, doesnt mean that it had to be acted upon. Too many parents are focused on the win and the trophy, regardless of how they are earned. I think that it teaches a poor lesson to the kids to advance in that manner. Make them earn it from winning the game! I dont have a dog in this fight, just a bystander hoping that parents let the kids play ball and let the coaches make decisions without being pursuaded into something they dont want to do. Its the coach who has to live with that decision, not the parents!
How about teaching the kids to play by the rules. It could have just as easily not been an oversight. If this player has been on this team then he should have been on the roster.

However, they do have some nice facilities at the SPAR (Sulphur Parks and Recreation) locations but they come with a price. We Texans don't pay a state income tax and some of those funds come from those taxes as well as the casino revenue taxes. They have Wards set up within the Parishes(counties) that allocate and govern the $$ and amenities. Look at Frasch Park and the nice place they have there as well as the water park. That water park is a great deal for $4 a day for non City residents. In most all cases, Louisiana spends money on facilities for both the local residents as well as the facilities that generate $$ for the local economy. Back when Frasch got hit by Rita, they decided to make it a better place and build a softball complex that would allow the high school state tournament to be held all in one place. They made the proposal, got it and off to the races they went. Now they have both softball and select baseball over there using the parks and it is a boom to the area. Nice work if you ask me. Just for the record, we did get re-classed today, lol. It took some losses but we were in the wrong division from the get go. On another note, can anyone explain why all these coaches are playing kids on the field that are not on the roster? Either I am naive or this is a bigger problem than people think. I heard a local team had to forfeit a semifinal game yesterday and another one had maybe 4?? kids play that weren't listed on the roster. What is going on??
Haha. You crack me up. Why are you so defensive? I wasn't even talking about Tillery. People from out of town keep calling me about tournaments. My question is, why do they call and send e-mails, and how can I change my usssa team info so they will not call? As for the kid not being on the roster, he has been on their team only, for the last 5 months. He wasn't some kid they picked up last minute, or decided, hey let's get that kid out of the stands to play.
..When you sign up for a usssa tournament they ask for that information to send updates etc..so PM me your name or teams name and it will be taking care of or you can contact your local Director..
You mean to tell me that a coach actually protested a semi-final game here due to a roster oversight, that is embarrasing! If they won the final game and got a trophey, I hope they explained to the kids on the team that is not how to earn one!
How do you know it was a roster oversight? I'm not familiar with what happened but two years ago we lost track of how much our pitcher had thrown and were called on it when he threw the first pitch over the limit. No one had to make me forfeit. I gathered my team up and we shook hands and then I took them off to the side and explained that I made a mistake and there were rules and that we had to play by them just as everyone else does. How about the coach that played the ineligible kid use it as a teaching experience and take the blame for his mistake instead of complaining that the other team wanted to play by the rules? Again I don't have a dog in this fight but I do think that as coaches we have moments that we can teach things other than baseball. Seems like this is one of those moments. Just my opinion. td
How do you know the coach didn't take the blame for his mistake? Im sure he wasn't complaining the other team wanted to play by the rules. He understands he messed up and that it cost his players. The only person complaining was the opposing coach. Complaining about his parents forcing him to protest, because he didn't want to do it.
Sorry if I didn't explain myself. I mentioned that I didn't have info about this situation. Therefore, I was just speaking about a situation in general. I didn't mean to say anything about the other coach. You are right maybe he did take responsibility, I don't know and didn't mean to come across as if I did know or didn't know. I was mainly responding to the fact that it was implied or I took it as implied that it was an oversight and the other team should be embarrassed. If it is or was indeed the Gladiators coach I don't know him therefore didn't intend to have an opinion on him. Just a situation. td

Is Select Baseball Ruining League Baseball?
td replied to REDBIRD99's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads

So, should be the title of this thread actually read, " Is Select Baseball Ruining Pitchers?"
You know, it's funny that this topic somehow comes up everytime youth baseball (select or league) is talked about. Every team my son has ever played on, the coach (some good and some very, very bad) was always concerned about the number of throws the pitcher made. I think there may be a few(very few) coaches that would risk a childs arm for a game, but I would say 99% of the coaches care more about the kids than the win. Just my view........
I couldn't agree more. I know we put pitch count ahead of everything especially winning. -

Having said that, it is a fine line that you walk, between responsible monitoring and censorship. STJFL made a concious decision to exclude a whole area from competition, and they never gave the participaing parents a reason why. When you have nothing else to go on, you speculate and assume...it's human nature... Now, I will offer a correction. What happened to me was as a flag coach for the Orange Cobras organization, it happened a few years back, but it DID NOT happen at an STJFL event. Big Titan's did. My point was that racism is alive and well, no matter what we may work toward...there will always be individuals that behave hat way. Is the STJFL racist? I don't beleive it is. What has happened is that they are offering no reasons as to their actions. That is troublesome, and something that might end up in a bigger court of public opinion where they will not have the luxury of having a thread locked to help them remain silent.
Well after doing a little research and it wasnt hard to find out the information I was looking for. I got a reason out of a board member from a surrounding city of PA. I was informed that they voted not to keep PA in the league because they thought that PA would stack their teams for next year, so they voted them out. Mind you, onl 1 team was actually accused of stacking. PA also informed the league that they would be expanding their teams like the other Associations I.E ( PA Lil Titans- Black, PA Lil Titans Red, PA Lil Titans - Grey) , because they had gotten a lot more interest from more kids to play next year. PA was going to keep the teams they already had and just add more teams to the league in every division. Now I think if you are a league and a city is lookinmg to expand, that would be a good problem, not a bad one. The person I got this information from seem to be kind of mad and one of the people who voted against PA, because their organization didnt beat PA. It also seems that it is more about winning in STJFL instead of about teaching and playing the best. So like I said in an earlier post. It was all about Talent. It happened a few years ago when Nederland (Well Nederland did stay for a whie and split up), Port Neches,Groves, LCM, Deweyville, Vidor, Lumberton, Bridge City and all the rest of these teams dropped out of Pop Warner to for mtheir own league. I was just starting out coaching then. They all left because of 2 teams in the league the PA Cowboys and the PA Jr, Bees. Both teams would whip all these teams every weekend. So instead of teaching their kids to play against the best, they dropped out and formed STJFL. NOW THIS.
I'm not sure I would agree with your statement of how the Cowboys and the Jr Bees would whip all of these teams every week. Last year we pulled our team out of STJFL and became the Orange Longhorns and although both of those teams were good we didn't lose a game until deep in the playoffs.
