Concerned WO-S Parents To Gather Over Bus Decision Tue!
td replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Finally, someone from WOS makes a sensible statement regarding this issue. I was really beginning to wonder if there was any realistic folks over there. The fact is, if the school district doesn't start cutting some costs, there will be no school for you Stang football fans to cheer for. Speaking of realistic statement!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If they aren't watching over the financials and the school closes then we will still have another school to go to. Actually it won't take me that long. If things continue in this direction, there are 4 other schools in Orange county. -

Am I the only one that wants to know how we get 2 mill. deficit and then start worrying about how to cut? The whole thing is a mess and yes it is going to be ugly. My problem is how did it get this way. Who wasn't on watch when they were supposed to be. I know it isn't as easy as this but it just seems as though you would see it coming. -

I guess they can do it then. I think it would be a good way to close the school. -

They don't really go with that mug shot you have been having sporting. I don't know for sure but I'm guessing that wasn't your mug shot nor are those your abs. Just a guess. ;D -
The kid did try to speak but wasn't able to due to the boards rules. He signed up to speak about the TAKS but meant to sign up to speak about the buses. We already had our allotted number of speakers about the buses. So he wasn't allowed to speak about the buses but would have been allowed to speak about the TAKS issue. Sometimes when a kid tries to speak, it makes the board madder than normal. Don't ask me why, but it does. School business is strange. I wouldn't even say they were mad about it.
-
Then he better be right about it.

We have so much tax money we have to give millions (maybe 2 maybe 7) away each year to Robinhood. That's not it.

One step at a time. I agree 2A to 5A is a huge jump. It will happen though if he continues what he has been able to do in Kville. -
16,000 woo that's alot, : No Kidding COOP 16k is not that much... But My lord... they have a 1.5 Million dollar deficit.... they have a ton of cuts to make. I am sure all non essential programs are getting cut or less funding. But how did it get this far out of hand???????? You may be right about the other programs but no one knows because all they said is they had to start somewhere. Why with a program that does so much for kids?

What a shame.

Again by taking away the busing it will take them 125 years to get the budget to balance and that's at only a 1.5 million dollar deficit and that's without interest. We have way bigger fish to fry that don't affect/effect so many kids. Can you give some examples of "some bigger fish to fry" just so us outsiders can understand a little more about what is going on over there in WOS. Not trying to start anything I am just curious if people in the community have any ideas as to other ways to save money and have those ideas been presented at these meetings. The first thing I would say is that only a few people are allowed to even speak at the meetings. Yes we have talked about other ways to solve the problem but do we have the exact answer. Probably not. Which is why we asked to continue busing until school was out and that would give us (community, parents and school board) time to come up with a solution that would work for everyone and save some money at the same time. If we are operating at the deficit they are telling us we are then it's unfortunate but to cut that kind of money we are going to have to cut people. At the very least make them and their job more efficient.

The President of the school board has 1 vote - He / She is not just a tie breaker. (Sometimes the Mayor of a city votes only to break a tie, but this is school district - not a city) Are you sure? The president of our Lions Club doesn't even vote unless there is a tie. I'm not saying you are wrong. I just want to be sure you are right. I think I will google Roberts Rules of Order. If you are sure though let me know. Positively, the president of a school board will vote on all issues...... This is fact. Good I'm glad to know that. He has been a long time friend and even though we don't agree on this issue, I didn't want things being done the wrong way nor did I want to believe that he would do them that way.
-
You are starting to see the light. There are alot of alternatives. We do need to do things to get our scores in line also.

No need to post the same thing twice. Surely you have something more to add. If not then you have already put up so.................... ;D -
There is a good excuse! : Since they aren't good at it then we just should accept that and live with it. Are you kidding me???????? I won't argue that parents should take responsibility. But some can't and some just won't. Now by not helping a kid that has a parent that either can't or won't who are we hurting? To me we are hurting a kid that has no say in the matter.

It's not their fault? Who runs the budget? If academics are such a priority then why have we been low performing for so long? We do nothing to change this but talk about how it needs to change. No change in administration at the schools that are low performing. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and over again and expecting different results. You can write in caps all you want to it doesn't change my oipinion or make yours any more meaningful. I agree that athletics (we are talking about all UIL activities) are a bonus at a school. But drop athletics at WOS and the other UIL activities and see how many kids you have enrolled at WOS. No need to get angry. If you are an adult you should be able to disagree about something yet still be civil. ;D

We have put up. We just passed a huge bond. Did it ever occur to you that there are other options? When you see this coming being proactive and heading the problem off. Spending the money we do spend a little more wisely. If only life were as simple as your post. The people in this district have put up and now we aren't going to shut up.

I'm curious about the curfew. Even if they get a ride. They will be at the school waiting for the ride. If it's after curfew will they be punished? -

I would think a good coach would look at this as a great opportunity. A real professional would take pride in taking over a down program and turning it around. (such as Credeour in Lumberton!) Think about the respect and admiration he now has in the community. He built it and deserves all the credit. If the program was loaded and had a history of success would you really need to be worried as much about the hire? I agree with you Green and Bold. : So why don't you leave your successful business and go take one on that has been down for sometime and turn it around. You should really look at that as a great opportunity to turn a business around, if you are a real professional, that is. ;D ;D [/quote If it paid more I might consider it. You see TD the point I am trying to make is that some people don't worry bout the last ten years cuz they just might have enough confidence that they can do better. BTW this is not tragichippy. I am not on that list. ;D (<<<< see the smiley face?) Go ahead give me the smite. You asked for it. You know you are on the list. You just don't want to admit it in an open forum for fear that you may be criticized. ;D -
Yes the new school will be paid for with bond money. However they never let us know about a deficit when they asked us for our money (to pass a bond). The same people that were in that room last night are part of a group of people that worked to get a bond passed. I think the outcome may have been different had we known all the facts instead of being force fed what they wanted to feed us. Had I known we were in such financial difficulties when I voted for the bond I may have voted differently. Had I know the board members were going to take away the busing I may have voted differently at election time. It seems to me that they are being reactive instead of being proactive. Surely they could see this coming since we had a 1.5 million dollar deficit last year and projecting a 1.5 - 2 million this year. My guess is had they been proactive then the bond would have never passed because the public would have known about all of the problems. Now they are trying to play catch up $16000 at a time. Which will only take 125 years to get back on track by cutting the buses and that doesn't include interest. Good luck you made this bed now sleep in it.

There hasn't ever been an all-star team picked anywhere that someone didn't like it. I would say if that's your only complaint then the league is doing something right. We are going to miss yall this year but at least we will give someone else a chance to win a championship. ;D I'm not real sure what you are talking about but if you want to pm me about the all star thing I will be happy to talk about how it is done. We will still be out there to watch and eat nachos. We will miss being out there playing but the schedules just didn't work out.
