Does PNG have a chance vs Barbers Hill Friday
Hoopster-007 replied to OneChance's topic in High School Girls Basketball
Immediately, when I read your comment, "But they play the games for a reason..." my thought went to the boy's side, not the girl's. More often than not, the dominate girls team is going to prevail. In my opinion, those underdog victories usually result from a coach knowing what he or she is doing. Also, my opinion, it's easier to coach up an underdog boys team, than it is a girls'. For example, boys' side, I'm likely to have an equally athletic player on my team that I can match-up with the opponent's best player. Girls' side, who am I going to select to keep up with Carter one-on-one? I believe someone commented earlier about slowing the game down. That will help BH because the few games I've seen, they run out of gas in the 4th quarter. If BH is going to get past game 2 in the playoffs....will require better conditioning. Yes, I agree PNG has a better shot than anyone else in the district, but the district is probably the weakest I've seen it in a long time. -

Stranger things have happened...lol. But, if she does have an off night, let's not totally forget the other 4 BH players on the floor. -

I believe 22-5A Rankings are: Friendswood 11-0 Goose Creek 8-3 Ball 7-4 Texas City 6-5 Crosby 6-5 Should BH survive the 4th place team above, second game will probably be against the 2nd place team in District 24: Shadow Creek (13-0), Fort Bend Hightower (13-1) or Manvel (9-4).

Lol...BH has played a hard schedule so far???? BH, although young, has potential. District is not strong, so being ready for district won't be a problem. However, I believe it would be to BH's advantage to have a team or two challenge BH for that #1 spot. -
Cougar14.2, it appears that you have been taking it on here for a while...lol. Regardless whether or not Crosby is victorious next year in District, Area, or Region, "kudos" to Crosby's football program, and others, that are getting elite athletes to the next level. Only about 2% of high school athletes are awarded athletic scholarships to compete in college. Certainly, the W's matter, but at the end of the day, in my opinion, there's merit in getting kids to the next level.

Thus, "not ready yet."

Even though the program has significantly improved under the leadership of the new coach, I agree with you 100%, i.e., "not ready yet." In my opinion, there's no greater experience than being on the same field with an opponent that has the edge on size, speed, and power - particularly.....speed. In spite of today's defeat, I tip my hat to the Eagles coaching staff and team, particularly, the QB who played with heart and left it all out on the field. Heck of a game! Congrats Eagles! I expect today's disappointing defeat will be a stepping stone towards greater achievement. Great season BH!

Yes, players make mistakes, but the situation is a bit more profound than blaming the coach "for players making mistakes." Check out BH's play-off losses the last four years, then come talk to me. -

No pressure on the stall and packing in the zone? Interesting. It makes sense now, for me. Thanks. Hopefully, the Lady Cougars are in the gym shooting 3's in preparation of their next game and the scouting report that follows. -
Crosby 47 Kingwood Park 46/FINAL

Perhaps you are right since you were actually at the game. Historically, that hasn't worked well - either a turnover or a missed shot giving the ball back to the opponent. Glad it worked. Again, not being at the game, if I'm 10 points down and I get the lead, I play to win, not to lose. -
Barbers Hill 53 Manvel 43/FINAL

Anticipated this would be a much closer game than the 30 point victory Manvel strategically allowed at the Gulf Coast Classic. -

Crosby needs to let them play. -
Congratulations ladies on a great season and your memorable accomplishment of making it to the State Play-offs. However, there is a bit of sadness with most teams in losing their Seniors. BH's Seniors for the 2016-2017 season are as follows: #22 Jaclyn Dobson #23 Tatum Jackson #24 Kayla Konarik #32 Madison Mayfield #34 Kaleigh Mayfield Thank you ladies!!! May your new adventures come with much joy and success.

Oldschool2 is correct. It is "possible to triple team someone when they have the ball and still be able to cover all 5 players when that one person doesn't have the ball." Canyon simply doubled-downed it's strong-side guard and brought the weak-side helper as the third defender. Personally, however, I believe your question has merit because we may have forced passes and did not test Canyon's "help and recover/help the helper defense." Without a doubt, Canyon proved to be the better team. I just don't believe Canyon's players are 30 points better than BH's players. Credit goes to Canyon's fundamental defense and BH's turnovers for BH's limited shots per quarter.
