Newton returns 15 players mention on the all district teams. 3 of the returners are mention on the all state teams. One of the returning 3 is Kendray Porter who is 2nd team all state running back.

Looks like Newton returns 7/8 did not count a player that goes both ways but one time. Biggest loss was our 3 best offense lineman's. Defense should be good.

Thats our problem we do not have a plant. The new bio refinery that was approved 3 yrs ago still has not started up yet. No jobs. Newton needs the money and jobs. Once it starts up there is still a 5 yr. Abatement. Do not forget they did away with the Robin hood program. There are about 14,000 people in newton county. I see the difference because I was raised in Pt. Neches and went to PN-G.

I no longer go to ATT because the traffic just before Christmas is a mad house. I travel 28 miles to the Stump Restaurant at Sam Rayburn Dam and eat a good meal (or you can have a drink) and watch all the games on FanDuel Sports .Two large TV screens.

Will your team be better or worse?

When a new coach is hired by another local school several assist. Coaches are released. We get some of those coaches but they find better paying schools and move on.

Exactly, we are one of the smallest schools in 3A2. Newton co. Is dropping population every year. We use to have a 7th,8th. Soph.,JV and varsity. Now we have a 7th, 8th, JV ( mostly 9th graders) and varsity. We lack in dept. and most kids go both ways. For example Woodville and Gunter have almost 100 more kids in high school than we do and it gets worse every year. Doing away with the Robin program really hurt poor schools like newton. We cannot keep assist. Coaches because of poor pay. The same for our law enforcement officers. Our churches are starting to fail. If it wasn’t for Toledo Bend Lake there is no way I would live in Newton co. I am from Pt. Neches so I have seen both sides. Newton co.survives on grants ( handouts).

Insane. Schools like Katy with 6 6A schools will have the outstanding kids on one team. That is somewhat happening now. They are going to ruin the game of football for small schools.

I googled up “does Gunter recruit from other school's. The answer was yes. Gunter has a program that trains kids for college play and helps players get scholarships. sounds like a good program to me.

Newton, no discipline. Failed to develop a passing game (one dimension). Failed to develop a xtra point kicker. Defensive backs not well coached. To many penalties, fumbles, not smart football. Hard to keep assistant coaches. No excuse for the way newton played Dangerfield.

Gunter and Woodville are the two largest teams.each year they are on the bubble to go 3A1 but a guarding angle seem to save them.They recruit from other teams. They know the loop holes to get a good player to come to their team. It’s best not to score on them, it will just make them man. Gunter 45 Woodville 21. Hope I am wrong.
