The odds are against Nederland ever winning state. J J could not take that team and even win district. That is a tough district to play in. It takes more than a good coach to win. Monte went to school in Nederland, was QB for Nederland, went to college and was hired by Nederland, was offense coordinator, then head coach. He poured his heart out for Nederland and he deserved better treatment than he got on this site by several people. Monte is a good Christian and you do not hear the garbage coming out of his mouth. coming from a PN- G grad. Thanks Monte for all you have done for the sport.

Nederland does not have the athletes at this time. Nederland will probably never win state again, regardless of what magic wand the new coach will be waving. The odds are against 5A2 schools who only have one 5A2 in their town winning state. PNG is an exception. UIL has been allowing these transfers to go on and larger cities with multiple school have the advantage. I wonder how many UIL people making these decisions live in a large city with multiple schools. There needs to be a law suit against UIL.

If you think that hiring a great coach will bring you a championship in 2or 3 years, you are going to be very disappointed. Bilichick is a great coach but when he lost his good player then he started losing.

Nederland has a young team coming up that is unbeaten in two years. Ned. has a lot of good players coming back. These kids were developed by Barrow. The new coach will reap rewards for what Monte developed. Nederland did not have the size line to participate in a powerful district. PNG did. The problem with Dallas is JJ. He wants to be the coach. As the owner I guess he has the right to do that but to win another super bowl he must concede to give a good coach that authority. Start with getting a good QB. Coach Belichick is out there, hire him and leave him alone. (But that is not going to happen ).

Teams like Waskom who have had good programs in the past but losing enrollment thus losing players takes a toll on winning in their division. This is no fault of the coach. Once the losing starts then more kids choose not to play. This has happen to Hemphill also. Hemphill and Waskom both went down to 2A1 . There are a lot of good coaches with not so good records.

Remember Hemphill cancelled their JV with Newton, moved what few players were left to the varsity. Talked to Todds father in law and he said Todd was looking to coach somewhere. Todds father in law coached at Newton and won Newton’s first state championship, 1974.

Newton would start with two very weak teams. 1st game. A weak 2A school. 2nd game. Those clucking egg laying Dallas cowboys.
