Dave Campbell's 2017 Preseason Rankings
purpleeagle replied to Goblin's topic in High School Football
Newton will be as good or better than last year. Newton carried 45 on their roster and they all played last year. Newton will have a QB(4.5) that will cause defensives to have to account for his running. Defense will be solid and very quick. -
Some districts are probably smaller due to trying to cut down on long traveling games. I know they added Frankston to Newton's district. Frankston is the other side of Jacksonville. A lot of our fans cannot travel that far. That's a long drive on the old yellow dog. A major problem if our football bus breaks down and we have to get another bus brought down to make it to the game on time. Last year our cheer leader bus broke down, luckily we were only playing at Silsbee that night.

they will lose at least two games- PN-G and Memorial.

TODD DOUGHTY NAMED AS NEW HC/AD AT KIRBYVILLE

Wow. -
It is my understanding that a lot of the kids that have not been offered a college scholarship or looking for a better offer are displayed so as to try to get these kids an offer from a college team..

Got a peek into DC TX Football magazine from DCTFM site. For region 3 class 4A-2, it shows WO-S lost a lot of talent, 10 players off last years team signed to play college ball. It states Thompson is 78-11 since taking over in 2011. Stated that they don't expect a letdown with WO-S. 31 and 1 with back to back state championships. Other teams in that region that are mentioned are LaGrange, Liberty and Giddings. In region 3 class 3A -2 it picks Newton to be strong again (to be more athletic and faster) and to be challenged in district by Crockett (which they show will have most all their offence back). and Garrison to be a challenge to Newton. Other teams in that region show Arp to have lost a lot of players but have some key pieces coming back. El. Fields to be strong. They show region 4, 3A-2 to be strong.

District 10-3A-2 Newton (will be strong on defense). Skill players back on offense, new QB but Newton will have more speed. Crockett Garrison Corrigan Camden -
He was coaching in 1961 when I was a senior. He was track coach and an assist. coach. Great man, my heart goes out to his family.

Kirbyville open Neece turns in resignation

Welcome aboard Coach Neece. -
Tamauzia Brown from Newton. As a sophomore he was MVP in district 10-3A-2. This kid has multiple talents as wide receiver, running back, punt returns or defensive back. Maybe not the best in the area, but he is one of the best.

Talking about assistant coaches, remember a couple of assistant coach named Cornell Thompson and W.T. Johnston. -
yes, and Bruce Silsbee is from Newton.

Seems like we hear this every year. I'm sure that after all these comments they will rework this list so everyone will be happy..

Wow, if we (Newton) had money no telling how good we would be. We are one of the poorest counties(school districts) in Texas. We are trying to upgrade to flush toilet restrooms. Our old blocking dummies are rusting out, need some new 55 gal. drums. With the unemployment rate extremely high in our county, there is little chance of passing a bond. Maybe some rich person will come alone and donate about a million for new turf. Then maybe we can make it back to state again.

MY RANT OF THE COVERAGE AREA,SO TO SPEAK
purpleeagle replied to pakronos's topic in High School Football
The problem with coaching in 5a and 6a ball is that the larger cities(like the Houston area) have numerous 5a and 6a schools and the better players wind up going to a school that has a winning program. This leaves the smaller cities with only one or two schools at a disadvantage. This is why towns like WO-S and Newton can still compete. Example, Katy has around 6 schools that are 6a, its amazing how this one school is heads above the other schools. You could move Katy's coach to West Brook and Katy would still dominate. Are you could have one school like Allen with 6,380 kids. UIL has a problem. I don't think you will ever see a state championship in 5a or 6a in the triangle area again unless UIL changes things to a more equal playing field. So, don't blame it all on the coaches. -
You think it gets tougher for WO-S, you see the other guy. Go get um Mustangs and Eagles.
