Newton Eagles: Predictions and Outcomes?
purpleeagle replied to ZATARRA's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Newton still has a few holes to plug. one of the offesive tackles which was being counted on to start quit the team. trying to break in two new kids. will take a while for them to learn the positions. Newton will be solid, especially when it counts and that is at playoff time. Newton will be ready for a run at the state title provided we keep our kids healthy. Injuries really hurt us the last two years. tough pre season schedule will prepare Newton for the playoffs. Kirbyville is going to be very strong, Corrigan Camden is ranked no. 6 in the 2A pole and Silsbee is very strongl; -

One of the coaches told me that he watched the Coldsprings Jaspers scrimmage held Sat. morning and that Coldsprings run over Jasper. Said Coldsprings line is huge and averaged about 10 yards a carry. -

Your Early Season Top 10...Let's Hear it!
purpleeagle replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Those picking San Augustine to finish failrly high, beware, they lost 5 players this year by transfer. At least thats what a San. Augustine coach told me during basketball season. Also, watch out for Anuhuac, they will have speed, and I mean speed. They are a program that is coming together. -
badndn you are correct, most people are voting for the players on their team. Therefore, Silsbee is population wise 10 time that of Newton, therefore, Halston Flanigan had 7 votes and multiply that by the factor of 10 and you get 70 votes. Therefore, Halston is the winning QB. an't that the pitts, WAKE UP AMERICA.

UIL is putting as many strong playoff teams together in one district. They started this the last realignment. This means some of the weaker teams in the weaker district will make the playoffs and some of the stronger teams in the stronger districts will be sitting home. When these weaker districts meet the stronger district in the playoffs it could be embarrasing. They are not doing the weaker teams a favor by grouping them together. You don't get stronger by playing weaker teams in your district. UIL IS WAY OFF BASE WITH THIS SUGGESTION. HOPE THIS DOES NOT PASS.

Come playoff time watch out for Carthage. I was told that they get that entire mamouth line back. Lost their good running back but most anyone can run through the holes the Carthage line makes. GO STANGS. A Hooks team can compete with anyone though.

Poteet fires coach; students walk out
purpleeagle replied to TexasHSFootball's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
There are other reasons that some coaches get fired besides their performance in athletics. But 5 coaches in 5 years ! Remember this school board hired these same coaches. Sounds like this school board need a little reorganization. The school district citizens have to carry a little of this blame also, they elected there people to the board. Board members are elected for 4 years with about half coming up for election every 2 years. Seems like they must be liking what the board is doing for there has to have been elections during this 5 year period. Interesting to see the outcome. Students being absent cost the school to lose money from the State. -
what is sooo great about wos ?
purpleeagle replied to COACH1UP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I can sure understand some people's negative attitude towards WO-S. We have the same problem with teams in our distrisct that have rarely or never beaten us. What is so great about WO-S? They are WINNERS. The other side of that coin is the LOSERS. -

Newton vs. Shelbyville part 3
purpleeagle replied to player_2009's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Shelbyville was a game team both times Newton played them. Should be a good game but Shelbyville is capable of winning. Newton beat them 10 points on Newtons home court. Both games were very close and competative. Should be a good game. -

Jasper's HC Vacancy..Will Hire Tonight!!!!!!!

Jaspers next head coach will come from a county adjoining Jasper county. A county on the east side of Jasper. The rumor is that this man is being pushed by Brooks and has been told the job is his. However, the board has the final say. This man will bring a quality program to Jasper. Shouldn't take you long to figure this one out. -

Newton 66 San Augustine 64 Final
purpleeagle replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
what a game. both teams were 4-0 in district. S. Aug. led by 10 points late in the 4th quarter. Newton came back to cut it to 4 points with about 2 1/2 min. to play and S. Aug. went back up by 9 with about 2 min. to go. Newton cut the lead to 4 points with less than a min. to play and then stole the ball and made two points and was fouled with about 17 seconds left. Newton missed the free throw but got the rebound and tied the game with 17 seconds. S. Aug drove the length of the floor and made a layup but it did not count because of a charging call. Newton had 7 seconds left and drove the the length of the court and scored with one second left to win the game 66-64. What a game.
