TABC Preseason rankings, all classifications
Evadale's #17 ranking is a good place to start. The Rebels will return three starters from last years State Runner Up team in shooting guard, Devon Murphy; small forward, Shawn Totten and point guard, Brandon Bruce. The Rebels lost the big senior class in numbers and height, but a couple of other players from last years team can be looked on to fill those wholes. Post, Kyle Taylor got plenty of playing time last season and playoff experience as well. Bradien Burford also was brought up from the JV by coach Laurence Williams so there are five players (four of those are seniors) who bring plenty of experience and knowledge of the system into this season. There are some talented players that will make the move up from the JV squad too!
Will The Rebels Win There Dist. ;D ;D ;D ;D -

Any combination of the ABOVE MENTIONED, and I'm quoting "teams could be competing with the likes of Cleveland, Silsbee, Stafford, etc for Region 3 supremacy." Dang, they left HJ out of the mix ::) I bet people thought the Dallas schools would never drop down to 3-A ;)
Dove, you really think RCA sports knows what it's talking about? Jim Hicks love to speculate just to stir it up.
Hicks is never wrong ;)
What Old blue u no better than that.
Someone mentioned to me last week that their kid participate in cross- country running as off season conditioning. Not sure of the reasoning why this is done unless it gives the players something to do while the gyms are being occupied by volleyball games and practice. I am from the school of thought that cross-country training does not adequately prepare one for basketball. Distance running uses a whole "nother" set of muscle fibers and energy than basketball.
U are so right BLUE.
Which really bring up another subject matter but still related to the post. It may not be as common as this area, but there are many athletes who begin to focus only on one sport once they get into high school. I know one particular kid out of the Houston area who was being recruited by a Big 12 school. Had a major knee injury coming into his senior year. I think he missed all of the football season and eventually went to JUCO.
That what wrong with BIG SANDY they play a lot of FOOTBALL.

His mom :-X was an All-American/played pro ball overseas, and his paternal grandfather :-X was an All-American basketball (I think) player in college. This kid does not attend Yates. :P
Old Blue stay out of HOUSTON. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Port Arthur Memorial High and Beaumont Ozen took to the road yesterday (Saturday) to play in the Joe Price Fall Basketball Tournament in Houston. Ozen took on 5-A powerhouses North Shore and last year state finalist FT. Bend Hightower, led by future McDonald All-American Danuel House. Ozen went 2-1, losing only to North Shore and garnishing wins against Hightower and Milby High from Houston. I'm not sure how Memorial finished. Maybe someone from Memorial could give a recap. Poverty stricken? No new development, except for the University? or is it the demographic? I have been over there millions of time and can you believe that, NOTHING has EVER happened to me? Go figure...Its not a "rough" area at all...Its an older, under developed area, that by the way has some MILLION DOLLAR homes located less than 2 miles away from that "rough" area...(MacGregor Area, Medical Center)...The Third Ward of Houston has some fascinating history behind it...which is where Yates HS is located...Do the research.
I don't mean to sound racist ::) but if yall go down just a few blocks from J. Yates off Southmore Street, you will find white people walking their dogs and they live in the area. This area is not a mile from Jack Yates. Explore people-get out of S.E.Texas sometimes.
Some of those white people have bluedoves in there back yard.
