  1. Derek Sowell, junior lefty from Jasper struck out 15 last game against Huntington. He has pitched in several close losses against the leading 18 3A teams Carthage 2-1,3-1 and Hudson 5-3. He has really improved this spring and will be a force next year.
  2. I think it goes back to the 90's when the continious playoff streak started. Next time I go by the clubhouse wall I will check. We really haven't been full strenght all year for one reason or another. It won't be until Tyler Ernest gets back next year until we are. We are getting some young players experience though. One game at a time dogs. The extended season really helps for the next year in terms of depth and experience for those pulled up from jv.
  3. Big game with jr. lefty Derek Sowell on the mound. Critter ,you sitting on the fence? Hope you are pulling for the Jasper Dawgs up north. jk Two ex Jasper pitchers may be attending tonight-TJC Justin Parsons and Travis Reagan from PJC.
  4. Junior lefty Derek Sowell pitched a good game to earn a complete game victory. Dogs go to 4-2 in district. Good hits by Sam Alvis,Ryan Bronson, Parker Philllips, and others. Next game at Center on Friday.
  5. Game moved to tomorrow night (Wed. 4/1/09) JV 4:30 and Varsity 7:00
  6. Parker Phillips gets a complete game win with 5 so,1 walk and only 3 hits. He had a stand up triple and a single to go along with a well pitched game. Ty Parker was also 2/3 with a double, single and a hbp. Several other Dogs had key hits and walks to secure the win on a windy cold evening. JV won their game 9-3.
  7. Jasper girls should be proud for a great year while playing tough competition. They will be even stronger next year and go farther in the playoffs. Go dogs!!!!!
  8. You can not replace his quiet leadership, above average hitting, leadoff potential, and very steady play of a very good middle infield of him and Soisson. Tyler will surely be missed but will be in the dugout to help the younger players. Good luck and get well soon.
  9. Jasper wins 10-0 in 5 to even up in district at 2 & 2. Derek Sowell pitched a complete game for the win. This was first game without junior short stop Tyler Ernest who is out with a hurt knee.
  10. The rankings at the end of the year are the ones that count. I think most of the voters are unaware of preseason schedules, quality of tournaments, underclassmen pitchers developed during summer/fallball, lingering postfootball injuries, or basketball players just getting to baseball. Most early votes go to schools with a lot of returning starting pitching. We beat Livingston 7-2,beat Kirbyville 21-2,lost to Vidor and Dayton by 1 run each with a very ill catcher and lost the first district game to Carthage 2-1. Just be glad that we have some of the best baseball in the state to see in our area and enjoy the show. Any one that represents this region will be battle tested and ready to represent well. Sometimes your best can be shut down by one strong pitcher. One of Jasper's best all time teams ran into Homer Bailey and lost . During the state run Middlebrooks had to pitch the game before us and we dodged another bullet to go to the finals.
  11. The funeral home on the north side of Jasper was in charge of building it. I think it was Stringer and Griffin that did it . They did a fine job of it too.
  12. I heard that Travis Reagan of Jasper hit a home run Saturday. Congrats. T
  13. In the first game Jasper's junior lefty Derek Sowell pitched a complete game winning 3-1. He has really improved with a good fall and several strong starts this spring. The dog defense continued to shine and Senior Mason Koch hit a shot to opening up the scoring to give Jasper a 1-0 lead. Derek and the defense battled to finish a tough Kelly team 3-1. In the second game senior Marx Marcontel started against Ozen and pitched 2-3 strong shutout innings. The bats were hot in the first inning giving Marx a 13-0 lead to work with. Freshman lefty Clayton Hart followed and kept the shutout intact to the last inning. Junior lefty Sam Alvis took over and finished off the Panthers to a 20-0 win. It was a total team effort with most all players getting in to contribute at the plate or in the field.
  14. It was a good game for both teams and fans. Parker Phillips started for Jasper and matched Hester for 4 innings leaving down 1-0. He is a junior that didn't get to pitch much last year but is coming on strong. Freshman Clayton Hart came in and pitched an inning followed by senior Marcontel to wrap it up. Both teams worked out of bases loaded jambs with little damage. At any time it looked like either team could open it up but the defenses held for a tight 3-2 final score.
  15. Dog's win 7-2 . Derek Sowell 4innings 10k 1Hit 1 Walk Marx Marcontel 2 innings 4k 2r Parker Phillips 1 inning 2k Ty Parker solo hr Dog's had several singles, ran well and played well on defense. 16 k by Jasper pitchers Thanks KJAS & Art Lay for Radio coverage
  16. Jasper looked better tonight with a drop to 2a ball vs 4a. The bats came alive and the pitching was sharp, with starters going 3 innings each. The defense turned several timely double plays and picked off a few runners keeping potential rallies at bay. The wind was blowing in and that kept several well hit balls in play that would have been for extra bases( or longer ) on most nights. Kirbyville will do okay in district with a steady diet of 2a pitching.
  17. Not sure on the score ,both scored close to 10 each. Jasper pitched Jr,Jr,Sr,So,Fr,Fr about an inning each, maybe two innings for the Sr. Freshman pinch runner for Jasper stole several bases running for player who was hbp 3 times. This will be a bright spot for Jasper (baseball speed kills). Hester hit 2 2rhr while Sam Alvis hit a 3rhr for the dogs. As with most early scrimmages, errors and missed assignments due to position swapping for pitching changes will clear up with time.
  18. Thanks for the updates Bobcat . Keep us informed if you can. I think Reagan is catching some this year.
  19. That sounds like a really good camp just in time for the new baseball season. I hear the Beck's can really BREAK in a new catchers mitt in no time. Good camp and an autograph, sounds like a good deal.
  20. Fix ,(build) the field and they will come. JK Good luck in the camp. Future Bulldogs "gettin" with the program!
  21. P Brandon Hillin Buna C Ty Parker Jasper 1B Kirby Bellow Ned 2B Tyler Ernest Jasper SS Matt Hicks BC 3B Parker Phillips Jasper LF Josh Clark Buna CF Jace Statum OF RF Trey Hester Vidor DH Jacob Felts OF Have not seen a lot of 4A & 5A. This team could represent at State, some for the second time!
  22. Get used to it ftballcrazy. The northern teams seem to get left out of the limelight sometimes. Some others are Josh Clark, Tyler Ernest,Parker Phillips. They have been to State also. When district is over and they are heading to the lake, you will still be practicing and playing for the big prize.
  23. New outfield fence in Bulldog Field almost complete and bricks are in for better/bigger dugouts. All it needs is about 10 feet in right field and to hang new 2007 State Champ sign on green monster in left field.
  24. When the games start give us some highlights or updates. This board is starving for some REAL baseball news.
