  1. Prayers for a good report, and get well soon from Dog's up north.
  2. Come on C Change , get out of Orange county some time. Kane has been a baseball standout since I have known him as a Hammerhead as a 10 yo, and I am sure even before then. Congrats to Kane and his family for all the hard work these past years. Now when you hit them out of Lamar you can say it's YOUR home field. Good luck this year in district ,it should be a very good year, and the winner should go deep in the playoffs.
  3. Don't forget about 18 3a. Last year a good team with several key injuries eventually won state. I will agree that sometimes the best team on paper does not get to play in Austin. I will have to go with Bridge City and Hicks and Co. for the district win. Hopefully Jasper will be there scouting the game, waiting to play the winner. We have about six seniors Alvis, Ernest, Phillips, Sowell, Parker, and Nerio, followed with Sossion, Burleson, Bolton, and Holmes. It should be a good year with more depth and experience than we have had in several years. The sophmore group will be ready to add key depth in the spring tournaments and playoffs. Between fall ball and Coach Mixon's rigourous offseason the Dawg's will be tougher than ever.
  4. The OKC Ambassadors are finishing up their summer with a week of baseball in Saltillo Mexico. There is only one team now since some of the players had to get ready for football workouts. Josh Clark and Ty Parker were team leaders in more ways than one. Josh hit above .360 and led the teams in stolen bases and walks. Ty batted at .417 and was tied in homeruns with 5. Final stats will be posted on the team website later this summer. The team is 2-0 in Mexico with a 5-4 first game victory and won today 21-0 over a University Team in a surburb of Satillo. Not to be outdone, they get to play a tough team tomorrow that " has never been beat" that has five members of the Mexican National Team as members and will get to play on Mexican Television on a " better field ". The team is still doing free baseball clinics daily with a mission . They have seen over 200 decisions for Christ since crossing the border. The boys have had a wonderful summer, playing quality baseball, seeing a lot of college and pro scouts, and making a lot of new and lasting friendships.
  5. The Jasper All Stars have a record of 2-0 in the Sectional round in Deer Park and have only played a total of eight innings, out scoring their opponents 21–1. Jasper has gotten solid pitching from their starters and their defense has been flawless. Jasper now awaits the winner between Nederland, who defeated Barbers Hill on Saturday night 5 to 4 in six innings, and Tomball in a Sunday evening battle between the one loss teams. Keep up the good work dawgs, we are pulling for you.
  6. Good job and thanks for the play by play.
  7. Jasper has about ten players returning that started or played a lot of varsity. That is not counting the 2010 sophmores that ran bases all year and pitched and played during the early spring tournaments. We will have more depth and will probably set some home run records on those big northern fields. Pitching and catching will both be very strong for 2010. Summer ball is going well and a strong fall is expected where the depth will be fine tuned. With E back we will have one of the better middle infields around. 21 3A and 18 3A will make the eastern side of Texas hard to beat again in the playoffs.
  8. This episode is reportedly driven by the MLB contract that will be up and possibly changed to affect this player and others in the 2011 amatuer draft. Waiting to finish high school another year may cost him millions in signing bonus money. The 2010 draft is supposed to be a weaker year for catchers and he will likely be the first one taken if he opts to graduate / ged early. In this area we know how future employees can be slighted when it comes to benefits to protect current employees. Thats just the way the system works. I say go for it ,play with the big boys and get the degree later if you can or want to.
  9. Slow day on the baseball forum today. Ty is Josey Parker's first cousin . Ty and Josh got to meet the ASU baseball team last night after the game and gave out forty baseball bracelets and briefly told the Justin Sullivan life story. We may see some on the ASU arms tonight in the dugout. They missed qualifying for their Lincoln BB tournament finals by a few runs but will get to see the Texas /ASU game tonight from the outfield stands. Back to OKC after the Texas/ASU game and then off to Missouri for next weekends tournament.
  10. Josh Clark -Buna and Ty Parker -Jasper are playing in Lincoln Nebraska and attending CWS with the OKC Ambassadors. Thanks TASO for putting on the games, it was a lot of fun last year.
  11. Congrats Carthage on impressive run through the playoffs. When you lose its always nice to say you lost to the eventual state champ, even if it was three times in one season. Congrats to all the seniors on your team that helped lead your team to victory. State champs in two sports in one year is very hard to do. The flu scare put some one game wrinkles in the run this year but it's all about winning each level and doing it again on short notice. Carthage had depth and played almost flawless baseball and it showed by beating come better individuals for team wins.
  12. The boys are having a blast and playing with some great players and great individuals. One pitcher from Kansas was the 2009 Player of the Year in Kansas,6'7" Levi Schlick. They are playing their home games at Southern Nazerene Univ. Ballpark with tournaments in Missouri, Nebraska ,Texas, and all over Oklahoma. Next week is in Lincoln Nebraska with the oppurtunity to watch 3 CWS games in Omaha during slack time. The head coach is Lee Tunnell, a former MLB pitcher that is also on part time leave from the Brewers as their minor league pitching coordinator. Other coaches are local high school coaches that love the Lord and graduate assistants with college baseball experience. The Justin Sullivan Memorial Tournament later this summer will be started at Bricktown Ballpark , the Rangers Triple A Team and probably finished at OU like last year. The team goes through an eight week bible study program centered around the Justin Sullivan Life Story, an excellent student, (valdictorian),catcher, (All state, Oklahoma POY ) and Christian.
  13. Time for another year of polishing future bulldogs and other local players to be. Hopefully you can find some diamonds in the rough that will be good enough to jump on that varsity train and ride it as far as the upperclasmen can pull it next year. Seems to be a lot of summer ball being played by various ages to keep the legacy alive in Jasper. ( Thanks parents and coaches)
  14. Since BC and Hicks are out -Go Carthage- Make 18 3A proud. Have to wait until next year for a possible Jasper/BC matchup.
  15. Visitors in terms of dugouts only,I'm sure both foul line fences will be filled with Cougar fans. It should be a good game with two quality teams playing in a town that loves watching anybody play playoff baseball!
  16. From looking at your last two post and user name I see you have some issues that need dealing with. For the record, a weak third place team still does not know if the are in or out of the playoffs. This team never said it could hang with the best of the past teams. We are stronger now than when the season began. We played Hudson and Carthage back to back early in the district process. And while I am on my soapbox I will pick Jacob Soisson for NOY, Mason Koch for DH, Sam Alvis for OF,Derek Sowell for P, Parker Phillips playing all over the infield for Utility and Ty Parker for C. There are several others for 2nd team and HM but the other teams below us deserve some love too or do Hudson and Carthage get all the picks? I don't think this district or our old one could stand up against the past glory days of Jasper Baseball which I assume you were a part of. That would be a topic like Buna vs Evadale which never ends. Ps. save that COY for Coach Mixon until next year when E gets back!
  17. This should be a good game to see with two very good lefty pitchers showcasing their talent. Derek Sowell is having a special year (90+k's)and should be dominating next year. Watch out for that 60 mph knuckle. Two of the areas better catchers in this game also. Jasper is playing good team ball now and the whole lineup is producing.
  18. 2009 makes it 16 years in a row for playoffs in baseball. Keep up the good work dogs. The pressure is off now, just have fun and prepare next years team with a long post season run as possible. Get well E, we need you for next year!
  19. With a quick trip to the Sinton Baseball website you can see they play a tough preseason schedule with few if any soft teams. Two losses came from CC Calallen, and two others at a CC Calallen tournament. With a 4a drop down team in their new district they still romped through district. Ten district championships in a row according to their website. The trip to state will be tough, you better have good pitcherS. Let the games begin. Like I said in preseason, the standings at the end of the season are the only ones that matter. There are plenty of good teams in this area to follow and jump on their bandwagon and ride as far as they can go. Good luck to all SETX playoff teams.
  20. Mason Koch-1 Ty Parker -3
  21. Another fine outing by junior lefty Derek Sowell. He had about 8 or so strike outs in only five innings for another complete game. Jasper wins 11-1 in 5 to earn a playoff spot. This makes it 16 years in a row to make the playoffs. Congrats to coaches Mixon,Smith,Brown, and Ford for another good but challenging year. The bats were hot again with several hits over outfielders head , against the wall(Alvis) to the wall (Alvis,Koch,Bronson)and over the wall (Parker)along with key singles and doubles and a few triples. The defense and pitching were enough to keep the shutout going until late in the game on this senior night in Diboll. The whole ineup is starting to produce and has sparked the last half of the season. JV won again and is having a good year. Good pitching by Colton Burleson and Jacob Clark.
  22. Marx Marcontal started and went 4 innings with a five run lead giving way to soph Colton Burleson. Burleson went two giving up no hits. Derek Sowell finished up the 6th,and 7th innings, striking out 5 to close out the 8-3 victory. Bats got going early with all 9 starters batting in the first to a 5-0 lead. In the second ,Ty Parker and Parker Phillips hit back to back doubles off the wall in center and left center. They both finished 3-4 with two doubles and a single each. C Melton and Sam Alvis had two hits each . Alvis stole two bases and was balked in to score the first run. Marx Macrontol and Mason Koch added singles to pad the lead for a 8 run total on twelve hits for the night. Jasper is 8 and 4 with a game against Diboll Friday.
  23. Jasper wins to go to 7-4 in district. Parker Phillips goes 6 2/3 innings with 7k's while retiring 15 in a row a one point. Derek Sowell strikes out the final batter with two runners on to end the game. Jasper had 5 runs on 10 hits. M Koch with 3 hits and a walk, C. Melton with two hits, singles by S. Alvis, T. Parker, P. Phillips, R. Bronson and some I probably left out. Rusk put the ball in play but Jasper's defense held with several good plays . Dogs at home tomorrow and in Diboll Friday.
  24. Jasper leading 5-1 in the 6th inning. Sam Alvis has 2 stolen bases and a put out from left field wall to second to nail Rusk runner going for two on ball hit off the wall. Parker Phillips pitching for Jasper with five k's so far. Eight hits so far for the Dogs.
