  1. i never had to pay admission....yes, i was a percussionist for 4 yrs....still the amount off of concessions will be high.
  2. Ain't that the truth. ;D I may be dogging out us east Texas hunters but I believe a lot of it is the mentality in this part of the state. The "If it's brown, it's down" (mis)management style doesn't leave much to be judged. Maybe some of these antler restrictions will help with the education but I have my doubts. I do believe that even though it isn't perfect, in the long run it will help. Of course if it is a private lease, someone can always get into the MLD program and not have to worry about those rules including up to hunting with guns during the archery only season. You are right about that. For instance I saw a good young 6 that was just a hair inside his ears and next yr he will most likely be legal....baring no one from the club next to me shoots him this yr (i.e. if it's brown, it's down). But give him another 2-3 maybe even 4 yrs he'll be a dandy for sure. He was probably 1.5 - 2.5...good semitry, length, and mass for a young deer. I hope he makes it
  3. With the amount of consessions that will be sold and the tickets for admittance into the marching contest they will make more money than you can probably imagine....at least more than you would think. I was a part of that Marching Contest 10 yrs ago and they pack that place with plenty of people. They'll get their money back for what it cost to run that Copter and then some.
  4. If I remember correctly the cutoff numbers for each classification go up about 10 every yr. With that being said Kirbyville will be on the cusp again come next realignment...I would say they stay 2A at this current pace.
  5. It was Coop that gave him the smite....never try to take his clout as WOS fan! ;D Welcome and as stated don't take anything to serious....it's all in fun....make sure you have your grain of salt handy!
  6. Looks about 16" to me. Does the deal in east texas require 13" inside? yeah, it's 13". Looks closer that 16". Ears are almost in alert position in that photo. That's where there should be a certain age at where you can shoot a deer that's not over 13" spread. I've seen some big racks (pt wise) out of small spreads. Unfortunately, most hunters can't age a deer on the hoof. I'm sure a few older, inferior deer will get a free pass, but I still like the restriction over all. Yes, an age restriction would be much better than antler restrictions. The problem is the people judging on the hoof. I was in south Texas last year on a bowhunting ranch where the restriction is a three and a half year old or pay a $500 fine. One guy last year killed a year and a half old 6 point basket rack that weighed about 105 pounds and he swore it was three years old. He paid the $500 fine though. Not everyone can be as knowledgeable about judging on the hoof as us setxsports guys!

It is a shame that most can't judge on the hoof. There should be a class to take. Heck there is a site that has a game on aging deer. whitetaildomains.com. Pretty helpful for a rookie. I have talked to many people that hunt around Carthage and it has paid off 10 fold. It's just keeping the poaching down in this area.

  9. :o What ranch was this from and near what town? Sad thing is that the 160 is pretty close to that antler restriction rule I am under in Jasper Co. How wide was it (Inside spread)?
  10. I agree. Hunting/Fishing contests would be good. I know there is a fair amount of us who hunt and fish and would like to see more pics, etc on this board. jdawg, check PM.
  11. A couple of weeks ago, a lady won $619.00 and she donated the whole thing back to Silsbee's Operation Graduation. Speveto probably had to have beer money after watching his beloved Mustangs fall to the Tigers ;D That's pretty regular at the Kirbyville games with the split the pot but its not usually that much.....I have to say that I would have hung on to a little bit of that.
  12. What you didn't turn around and give it all back to the Sr class??? Poor kids! ;D
  13. This years Arp team is a lot like watching Muleshoe. They run basically the same offensive stragety. Arp's gain in size is almost unreal for a 1 year change. They have an avg at 259 lb on the Oline and 245 on the Dline. I really expect to see Muleshoe there waiting on Arp this year. They have there studs back. That # 44 from muleshoe is a dang fast kid with good size. I got to say I hope to see Kville again. It was such a great game last year. I live so far away it's hard to get a good vibe on how good Kville is from east Texas. He graduated and went to Eastern New Mexico with is cousin Wes Wood the QB from last yr. The one stud that they had coming back is Jr. Cooper Washington (TE/DE). He was the one guy sthat stood out that was young and big.
  14. Ouch! Even on the lease I was on in Del Rio I would've popped him. Their rule was 3.5 but alot of the "founding" members frowned on it because they saw it as too young to shoot but never actually changed the rule. Hence the reason I am back in E. Tex. this yr on private property....antler restriction or not. Less BS to deal with and I am the boss....the only hunter too!
  15. Nice deer. 4 year old, maybe? My guess with the front look he was 4 in that pic....can see the sway in the back and the slight roman nose...should be a dandy this yr for sure.
  16. Shot distance....she went about 60 yrds and fell within sight. That was probably the best feeling.
  17. Always great to get that first kill. My first bow kill was a doe and then a javelina. The 25 yard shot on the javi was a lot harder. But as my uncle who got me hooked to bow hunting told me...the adrenaline rush will never go away when bow hunting....wheather it's your 1st of 100th kill.
  18. The nervousness with a bow never seems to entirely go away. Were you shaking after the shot? I was shaking a little when drawing down and zeroing in on her but nothing like after the shot. I though that I was going to have a coronary! I was actually impressed with how well I handled the pressure while getting ready for the shot....all that practice paid off. Just like the guys on TV when they rip off their mask and can't breathe!
  19. My first weekend was this last weekend. Hunting form a ground blind. Sunday morning 2 does and a 11 inch spread 6pt..probably 2.5...new antler restriction in Jasper Co. going to help that one out. Sunday evening 1 doe after being on the stand 10 minutes and gave her a dirt nap @ 20 yrds...1st ever bow kill and i acted like a little kid when i hit her...adrenaline like never before....BTW, all deer came in to the feeder so my season is looking on the up and up after last yr when they wouldn't touch my corn.
  20. WOS keyed on him all night and he still scored 2 touchdowns on them. I've seen #11 from Newton play he is quick, Lafredick Ford runs a 4.3 at it shows when he hit the corner on them sweeps. I remember when we scrimmaged Silsbee, Lafredrick took it to the house on the first play for about 70 yards. Some of the Silsbee fans was asking me was he a senior, I said nope he's a junior and they were like that dude can fly. If we cut down on the fumbles and penalties, we will be just fine. You can see Ford's speed but with his long frame it is deceiving. That kid can flat out get it. Very tough to contain.
  21. I do, too. Admin. ;D ;D ;D No kidding....now they see what it's like on the other side of the fence for a change! lol ;D
  22. I agree.. Ford is probably one of the fastest if not the fastest guy in SETX.. Fastest i think i've seen this year.. When he broke that 96 yard touchdown and got to the second level he was burning. From my vantage point on the box; when he hit the hole I said he was gone. Even when 3 guys had an angle on him he ran by them....Kid has an excellant motor and crazy speed!
  23. Trainer: What's your name? QB: I'm Batman!
