Fishing Spots for Young Kids
Lefty99 replied to Piratefan4life's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
OH yea its called fishing, get caught without fishing lisc and stamp while crabbing, you will be given a ticket for 'FISHING without a lisc' ;D Stamp? Saltwater Stamp I believe. -
the day kirbyville has to worry about either one of those teams heck will freeze over your right 2011 real talk Corrigan Camden and Anahuac dont to deserve to be in the same sentence as kirbyville Unless the Wildcats move back up to 3A, you will be hearing Anahuac and Kirbyville in the same sentence numerous times, so I'd get used to it...while y'all had only 1 bump in the road last season, this year's "bump" will more than likely come alot sooner since your returning team won't be as strong. The Panthers, on the other hand, will be vastly improved and would be up for the bi-district meeting again for sure - but y'all need to worry about Newton right now. Honestly, you may want to move back up in class if you really don't want to hear about Anahuac...otherwise you're gonna go crazy for the next 3 seasons!! Anahuac is not doubt a team that is on the up, but saying that they might want to move back up in classification to stay away from them? I think they would be more than willing to stay where they are even though they proved their worth with the likes of Jasper, Silsbee, and WOS. I wouldn't wish playing in that district on anyone! Just to clarify...I never said stay away from, I said hear about....and as long as they're both 2A schools they will be mentioned together. Context dude....context! If Wildcats are gonna come on here and say we don't deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence then you're gonna hear it from the other side, period! If you're going to dish it out then you've got to be able to take it - that's only fair! 8) I read what you posted, but you and I both know what you were implying. Kirbyville can take it...they heard all about it last year. Nothing new to them! Let both teams get to the playoffs and then let the talking begin...it's a long road before that can happen.

WHAT IS THE #1 ATTRIBUTE FOR A FOOTBALL PLAYER.
Lefty99 replied to speveto's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Priceless! Look at what he did in Junction...may not have been the most talented bunch when he left but those boys had heart and would die (almost did in Juncton) on that field if it meant winning! Speed, bowed legs, and big chins are great but heart almost always trumps those three. Look at what Permian did in '88 "Friday Night Lights" Not the biggest, fastest or strongest but made one hell of a run in that season on....you guesed it. HEART! -
13 Year Old Accepts Football Scholarship
Lefty99 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Yeah but I think it is a gimmick really. I guess you can verbally commit at 5 years old if you want to but by NCAA rules, it is obviously not allowed. This is nothing more than a father making an over the top pitch for his son and his alma mater. He might have "committed" to Tennessee but I'll bet Tennessee hasn't accepted. I think that the kid's father is trying to vicariously live his youth again through his son, possibly at the son's expense... which I guess is why you think that it is not right.... and I agree. I just don't think it is much more than a publicity stunt. publicity stunt.........might put pressure on the HS coach to start him Exactly what I was thinking. -
Cuccancic was the 3rd string as a Soph last yr behind Hazlewood and Keene (2 Sr's) and I would expect him to be in the lead as the starter this yr.
-
No problem...I think that DCTF gets quite a bit wrong....there are alot of HS teams to cover.
-
They didn't lose their entire starting D. Still have 2 starting LB's a Dlineman and 2 DB's coming back. Losing key parts....yes. From the experience of calling every game the young players did play alot more than you think, and not necessarily in mop up duty. "Maybe" I was of base in saying the majority of the time. Questioning their D is fair...it's called an opinion. People have always questioned it for the last 3-4 yrs. Nothing new, but I can asure you that there are alot of young guys who got key playing time in the playoffs and if that isn't enough then what is? Getting Johnson is another key...remember that. Apparently you haven't noticed the young talent that keeps coming up and "is" still there. I am not saying that they will be a lock down D but they will not be horrible as some people seem to think. As stated, the new QB will be the key to the team. Losing a leader like Hazlewood is big. To me this team will have more to prove than in yrs past! All teams that get to the finals have something to prove the next yr. It just gets me that everyone is willing to write them off so soon. Alvarez has been a proven winner there since his second yr and there was far less talent than now.
-
A preseason poll is all hype they are based on what the team did the year before and who they have coming back and what they think they will do. There are prob 3 or 4 teams on this list that wont be on it a few weeks into the season. Both good points but what gets me is that everyone is questioning their D this yr. We all know that they lost alot of starters but those starters didn't play the majority of each game last yr. The playing time that the underclassman got will be a huge key to ther defense. Somewhere in the 5-10 spot sounds about right for a pre-season poll.

National Championship Game Thread................

That's baseball for you....it may seem cheap but it works sometimes....one looked legit the other not so sure. yea it works that second one really did not hit him, the first one may have grazed a lil of the sleeve but did not hit the body. Uniform is part of the body....all it has to do is graze it. -

CWS Championship Series Thread..............

I noticed those too...good stuff! LSU better not take t.u. lightly or there will be game 3...with that said I see LSU getting back into form and going after them with wreckless abandonment! It's funny that Texas tried beating them at LSU's game but still fell short in the end of that game. I like the Tigers in this one. -
With the right coach and program like they have, it is a constant reload. Kirbyville has alot of talent coming throught the classes right now...there's always been good athletes there, but the previous coaches and systems didn't fit right. BTW, I am not bashing those coaches!
-
Not sure if they are. I haven't seen Campbell's mag yet on their rankings but they have Kirbyville losing to them in the 3rd round I do believe. Both teams return alot of talent but also have some key positions to fill....such as QB.

Best "Team" Ever At Your School?
Lefty99 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I wouldn't go so far to say that when Hadnot was there that was the best team from Kirbyville. He was a one man wrecking ball but the overall team wasn't that good. Last years team was most likely the best. -
This seems a little fishy! Like someone is trying to stir the pot a little bit.
-
Well I am glad to see that you two have worked something out. I went and the wind was tough! Tide was moving out pretty good from the 1st set of pipes but only managed some rat reds and a few sheeps.

UT/USM Thread (HORNS WIN 7-6!!!)

We have a winner ! I like your style Baddog. HOOK 'EM indeed ! Trust me I know how baseball is played and understand what every team is trying to do. I never said that small ball couldn't score runs if you read my statement. I like both styles of the game. But it is about 1st impressions and Texas didn't make a good one. I have nothing against them...I was simply stating my opinion on how they looked. Once Green was pulled from the game they didn't look that good. Saying that they had one bad inning is a little bit of a stretch. One really bad inning....yes they had one. And if So. Miss had won I would have said that they earned it because no one gave them a chance because it was their 1st trip and they were facing Texas. I didn't give them that big of a chance, but thought that if Texas took them lightly they would be in a dog fight. -
I don't agree with it I just don't think Kirbyville has enough offense to play with newton this year. Newton is going to have too much talent in the skilled positons and there defense is gonna be alot better this season. But I don't look to hardd into these predictions it only matters what happens on the field. They pick these winners based on last season anyway. I don't have a problem with the predictions. Didin't they have Kirbyville going to the title game last yr? It's not the offense that I would be worried about. They have more holes on D but alot of young guys got plenty of playing time last year, yet weren't starters....it's just too close to call at this point.
-
That's the best analogy I've seen so far. I cover them on the broadcasts and they are a stable. Yes, they lost some key players but there are alot of returning underclassmen that played a ton last year and going to state makes a big impact on young players as far as experience goes. I don't forsee them going all the way this year, but 2-3 rounds deep sounds pretty accurate, maybe even 4 rounds if the chips fall in the right spots depending on how Reg 3 D1 looks as a whole. There is also a pretty good group that is coming up as Soph's that showed some promise....it's all a waiting game. Last year was an amazing thing to see every week from the box, but I looked forward to this year even more. They will be out to prove that they are no slouch.

UT/USM Thread (HORNS WIN 7-6!!!)
Lefty99 replied to bullets13's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
This thread is interesting! After watching the game last night I realized a few things. S. Miss has a pretty dang good ball club that can flat out hit. Both bullpens looked suspect. Texas is known for their pitching and it was gone last night. When Wood came in I thought it was over and they would rebound to take the game by a couple....I was way off. I know all that matters is that you win by one but look at it rationally. I am a fan of small ball and hitting machines but Texas was exposed a little bit last night with their small ball. If you can get ahead of them in the count it takes them out of their game a bit....this ALL depends on what said opposing pitcher can do on that given night. The only other thing that got me a bit ws the way they acted when So Miss walked in the run. They acted as if they won a NC....that worried me a bit because they didn't play Texas ball and came all around getting beat! They made too many small mistakes. They didn't show up So Miss and I understand that emotions were running high but I expected a little more out of a Garrido team, concidering how lucky they got last night. That game was given to them in the 9th. They better play with alot more when the face ASU or they will find themselves in the losers bracket. -
