Center is probably becoming that good.  Their coach is Jasper's former pitching coach.  He is now in his second year and judging from the past few games it appears that Center is becoming more competitive.  But, Jasper did contribute to Center's scoring with errors. Yes, Jasper has struggled; has lost four district games and is facing a probable playoff game against Huntington just to get third place for the playoffs.  However, all four losses were by one run.  Several times Jasper left the bases loaded in those games.  To put it simply, Jasper is in this situation for lack of one more key hit.  If they do not start getting those key hits, their season could end very soon.

Jasper came from behind to win tonight 6-5.  At one point, Jasper was behind 5-1.  If Huntington wins out, then it will be a tie for third place between Jasper and Huntington.  Presumably there would be a playoff game for the right to advance to the playoffs.

Congrats Huntington.  Now it is called "backs to the wall" for Jasper.  >:(

I agree, Jasper is too small of a school for kids not to play more than one sport.

The Jasper @ Huntington baseball game, which was scheduled for Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., has been rescheduled for Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. The recent rains have left the Huntington baseball field too wet for play.  per KJAS [Hidden Content]

[/quote] No need for discord.  One of the best baseball coaches that Jasper ever had coached both baseball and football; and sent a few baseball players to the minor leagues, and at least two to the major leagues.  Also made two trips to the state tournament, and numerous trips to QF.  But since the current system seems to be working pretty well, no need to change that I see.

now, can he do some horse trading and put the Silsbee game back on the table?  would someone help out to maintain the long, long streak?

I think the Board did good to reconsider.  Sargent only had the other coaches leave the kids.  As I understand it, he did not abandon them.  From what I heard he drove up and picked them up himself while they had a chance to think things over.  Not the smartest thing he could have done, but he clearly has learned his lesson.  Wonder if the kids have learned theirs?  For disobeying a direct command those two kids should be out of Hempstead athletics forever.  Period.

Congratulations to Coach Barbay and best wishes! Jasper, it is time to close ranks and give the man a chance!

For me, I care.  I think we all should all care that care about the students at Jasper.  I do believe that somehow (and we may never know publicly) that these two issues are at least somewhat connected.  The coaching thing might have just been the last straw.

[/quote] I agree.  As far as family pedigree, the Barbays appear to have won more championships than anyone else on the list.  If the admin is trying to make a "safe" choice, Darrell would probably be the safest of the finalists. A big positive for him is that he has pretty much stayed put at just two places.  Jasper should be like going home for him; without the downside of the inevitable comparisons that coaching where his father coached would have brought.  I can see his staying at Jasper for a long, long time if he can hit an 80% or better percentage winning ratio.  With the usual talent level at Jasper he just might be able to do that.  For the short term, reportedly the talent level with the soph and junior classes for next Fall are above the "usual" Jasper level.  If that is true, whomever is hired should get off to a good start the first couple years.
