1. Open letter to Jasper administration and coaches: Of course we would not want to keep someone that does not want to be there.  At the same time, if there is a "fixable problem" that has a solution that would make everyone reasonably happy again, I would hope that that option would be sincerely and extensively explored by all persons in positions of authority. Example.  Back in the late seventies, a very similar situation evolved at Jasper.  The principal evidently was trying to micro manage the football program.  Coach resigned much like this time.  Board listened, over-ruled the principal.  Principal elected to find a job elsewhere.  Coach stayed another 17 or 18 years or so.  Very successful.  I think the Board made the appropriate decision that time.  There is precedent for the Board to step in if needed. What is right now?  I do not know.  Now, it is less clear to me what is going on since I no longer live in Jasper.  But something is clearly not quite hitting on all the cylinders.  It appears that something has been going on for years that has caused Jasper to become a revolving door for football coaches.  I do not have a clue why that has happened; or what all the dynamics are.  Perhaps it was all coincidences.  Perhaps there were just several bad hires.  Perhaps the community cares too much and butts in trying "to help".  But everybody loses from the turnover regardless of the reason.  The coaches lose.  The school loses.  The players lose.  The fans lose.  The administration loses.  Everybody. I would hope that the administration, the coaches, the Board; and everybody in Jasper will take this as a wake up call to figure out what the problem is and work to get on the same page.  And that page should be doing what is overall best for the students at Jasper High School. If the coach has violated UIL rules, or reasonable Jasper ISD rules, then perhaps it indeed is time for him to go.  But if this resignation was prompted by unreasonable administration attempts to micro manage his program then there should be some deep soul searching done in Jasper, Texas. Successfully running any organization is quite simple.  Figure out what the winners are doing, and then shamelessly copy.  I thought that was what Jasper was doing when they hired Coach Morgan.  As I said, I have not a clue what has been going on behind the scenes.  All I know is what I have read on this board.  But I do know this.  You cannot have a successful program in any field if management micro manages.  If anyone in the administration or the Board has been unreasonably attempting to micro manage and interfere in the athletic program this would be a good time to put a stop to it.  If the Board has to get involved then I would applaud them for stepping forward. It appears that Coach Morgan may have made some mistakes.  If he has, I would hope he would work to rectify those mistakes.  Everybody makes mistakes if they are trying to actually accomplish something big.  Did he come in with a swagger?  Well, I would hope so.  That is not a crime.  He has a tough job and he must believe in himself.  No question about it.  Perhaps he has not totally sold his program to the community.    Perhaps he needs to do some more selling.  That is what a leader does; sell the program.  In a positive manner.  No need to even mention what someone did in the past.  We are in the now. What I hope to see come out of this is a unified approach from the Board, the administration, and the athletic department.  I hope to see all the parties start selling the program.  United, Jasper can have one of the best academic and athletic programs in Texas.  And I do believe that a good athletic program supports and enhances the academic program.  Divided, we will all be losers.  What is it going to be Jasper?
 2. one of these days, we will get the right hire!  8)  i agree, from all accounts, the talent is in the pipeline, and there likely will be a long list of applicants.  seems like every time there is a vacancy, there is a pretty long list.  must be the high pay that jasper dishes out.  ;D
 3. Sorry, did not get the name.  But they gave up 4 runs in the first.  Jasper left runners on base several times.  Just was not Jasper's night.
 4.

All meetings start in open session.  Some immediately go into closed session.  They didn't post this meeting on the website so I suppose it was posted only on site.
That is why I termed the meeting "informal,"  because it did not appear that the meeting notice would have met the Open Meetings Act and it did not appear that the formalities were met once the meeting began.
If they are meeting without having posted this meeting they will be in serious trouble.  Perhaps it is just the board officers meeting and not the whole committee.
in trouble even if they made no decisions?
 5. Central won 10-9, Jasper left the bases loaded in both 6th and 7th innings.
 6.

I doubt that anyone will hear anything official or otherwise from this meeting, which looked to be an informal one anyway, until there is an acceptance or refusal to accept Coach Morgan's resignation letter.
No such thing as an informal board meeting.  If they meet and have a quorum they will have posted an agenda at the admin. building  72 hours before the meeting.
They might have meant "closed meeting"; which it was.  Personnel meeting.  Generally supposed to be "closed".
 7.
I really hope they can work it out and keep Morgan. With Morgan I feel Jasper has a promising future in all areas of Sports. I've met him and his brother and they are both stand up guys. I feel bad for the players. Everyone I have talked to liked Coach Morgan and what he was doing.
Agreed.  I hope that whatever triggered this can be talked through and calm heads prevail.  Everyone loses under the current scenario.
 8.
I woul just like to know if they have any chance of working this out.
There is always a chance as long as the parties are talking.  It has worked out before in similar circumstances.
 9.
Why are fans there to support a man who is choosing to leave?
because we do not yet know the real "true story" yet.  if the coach was screwed over, then the fans will be behind him.  otherwise, no.  right now, we just want to know the truth.  and this meeting just might get some of the truth out in the open.
 10. knowledge of basketball, and competency might help.  :)
 11.
Very interesting that this meeting is scheduled. However, even if things turned around now, it would be a whole different attitude around town about Morgan. Support would go from 95 to probably 50 %. They need to get the mess settled either way.
true.  in the "old days" before instant communication, this could have been handled in a more private manner.  but it needs to be resolved quickly in some manner, join forces, and go forward.
 12. can interested fans sit in?  ;D I am glad to hear that the Board will be meeting with Morgan without "management" present.  If Morgan has legitimate issues to raise, and has been unable to get them resolved working through channels, perhaps this will help clear the air.  A school board should not try to micro-manage the admin, but ultimately the board is responsible for what happens in the district.  no telling where this will all end up.  I do not expect it to happen, but if the Board should override the administration, it would not be the first time in the history of Jasper ISD.
 13.
I don't think any of the coaches other than the AD had expectations of no teaching. AggiesAreWe is normally on track, but he doesn't know this administration like some do. It IS NOT just the teaching thing. It is promises unfulfilled, power to be obtained, and fear of losing control due to popularity. There are people in leadership here that have egos much bigger than Morgan's. He was not an ego guy. This is sad. It is just a sad deal. I don't think the board wants to deal with the issues in the administration. People can debate on here all day what happened, but in the end, it  happened. Now the kids have to start all over again.
if that is the case i guess we might have to wait for the egos to retire.  how many years might that be?  no one can work forever!  time to clean house?
 14. well, unless he chooses to share the specifics publicly, we will all be guessing.  which is probably the best for all concerned.
 15.
Read this today. Looks like he really had it headed in the right direction. [Hidden Content]
Without a doubt, Coach Morgan had it headed in the right direction.  But what does it look like for him now?  The going got tough, and he quit?  It is tough all over right now.  Is his next stop going to be any easier?
 16. It will be interesting how this plays out.  I remember one young coach that Jasper had tender his resignation ended up staying for several more years.  As I remember, the Board refused to accept his resignation, and the hs principal ended up leaving instead.  Beware those good young coaches!  I never got to meet Coach Morgan, or even watch a Jasper game last Fall so I have no knowledge except what I have read here.  I am saddened by all this for sure. This I feel that I do know.  All school districts in the state are under tremendous financial pressure thanks to the legislature balancing the state budget on the backs of the kids.  Even so called "wealthy" districts have been having to make drastic cuts.  And Jasper certainly does not qualify as being "wealthy".  So I would suspect that any drastic budget moves made by the administration were pretty much forced upon them by under funding by the state.  I could be wrong about this; but unless someone somehow shows us that indeed Jasper is a "wealthy" district rolling in money I think the administration should be given the benefit of the doubt if in fact it was about asking coaches to actually teach classes.  I liked having coaches teach classes when I was in school.  Most of them were pretty good teachers as I remember.  Best wishes to any and all coaches that are leaving.  If they are as good as they were touted they should have no trouble finding other jobs.
 17.
34-30 Athens up at halftime! Silsbee better wake up
have to be careful with those 6 letter towns..........
 18. Fairfield put a good ole country whipping on the dogs!  Jasper matched buckets with them for while, then FF started hitting threes, Jasper went cold on their shooting, and it was all over.  The best team won.  Congrats FF.
 19. Fairfield won 51-41 over Gatesville.  Jasper was to play the winner.  Any reports on time and place?
