Second round will be interesting. Every team except Kirbyville has a chance. Central is 1-5 but have lost some tight games. They lost to Hudson and Huntington on the road by a total of three points. They lost to Center by four or five at Center. They have all home games left except Kirbyville. They are going to beat some people the second round.....
And Central played scary close to Jasper at Jasper. It is difficult to see them making up five losses in just six games but they surely will pick up some second half wins and have a big say in who does make the playoffs. And they might even be able to nab the third spot depending on who beats who. Clearly, they have the ability and should only get better as their young players get more experience.

Why does Alvarez want to leave Kirbyville

Anybody got any info about this or is this just a small town rumor??
If true, I wish him lots of luck. Paris is lucky to get him. I suspect they'll be contending for state championships within the next 2 - 3 years, if not sooner.
True. A much better choice than a Mr. Bowman that applies everywhere, then turns them down! Just withdrew from the Temple process after getting to the finalist stage. -

I personally saw Jasper almost lose 2 points because someone at the score table simply missed it. A fan had to cross the gym and tell the Jasper coach before it was challenged. I suppose that most score keepers (presumably human) could miss recording a score at any school. That does not mean that they had nefarious intent. Perhaps the comments are accurate. But it seems strange to me that the comments like we saw last week seem to come from the same team's fans. In 2009 the same team posters had some strong things to say about how they were treated in football at Jasper. So accurate? Sour grapes? Bad chemistry? I don't know. But I find it very reassuring that fans from other schools state here that they have not had similar problems at Jasper.
J-Dog, I was one of those who was willing to give the benefit of the doubt...but not after tonight's games. It was atrocious, the mistakes that were made in both the Diboll girls game and the boys game that followed. I promise you it isn't sour grapes in my case...but something needs to be done. Far too many mistakes were made in clock management, score keeping, etc. Far too many.
I hope the Jasper administrators read this board. If there is a problem, fix it!
You can't blame a man trying to better himself. If he leaves I wish the best for him.
I agree. He helped Kirbyville move up from the bottom. Good luck to him. I doubt that the talent supply has anything to do with it. Is this the first year he has been applying for other jobs? -
Whatever it is, the Jasper fans will want something different. ;) ;D But if it really, really works they will be won over.

Jasper Hires Carthage DC...Garrett Morgan as Head Coach/AD
j_dog replied to me2's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Many programs have coaching changes and the programs keep on winning. I think the administration has to make good hires, and then let the hires run the program. Too much meddling will ruin any program. I do not know if that has been happening at Jasper, but I have heard non-specific rumors. If it has been happening, now would be a good time for it to stop. A good strong AD/HC could put a stop to that pronto. I hope that is what we now have. -

Center vs. Jasper Game Thread/Jasper wins/Comments
If you were at the game you know that Center had to play the refs from 2 minutes left in the first half until the final buzzer. It was one of the worst called games I have ever witnessed in high school basketball. Just keep in mind that when you travel 60 miles north on highway 96 it WILL be a different story. I just hope our coach doesn't call off the dogs and beats ya'll just as bad as we can. Your scorekeeper's table personnel even pulled some trickery when they failed to start running the clock in the first half for about 30 seconds and even tried to give ya'll points you did not score.
Trust me, Jasper is equal opportunity about screwing up the score. One night, Jasper scored and it was not credited. EVEN I saw that. Everyone on the Jasper side seemed to understand it. Fans were screaming bloody murder. Finally someone from the Jasper side went around, told the Jasper coach, they talked to the scorekeeper, the other coach etc. They all eventually agreed that Jasper had been denied a bucket they had made. Call it incompetency if you wish. But please do not call it trickery. I doubt they have it together enough to trick anyone. ;D -
yea "IF" is the key word there. Everyone keeps saying they got the one with the exprience and keeps talking about his 3 state championship titles. I got news for you people there is a big difference in being an DC running another Coaches scheme in a program that had unlimited supply of athletes and being the AD of a large 3A School that is coming off a 2-8 season. Coach Morgan might prove himself to be the better coach of all the other apps but in my opinion as of this moment they didnt hire the "best" Coach available.
only time will tell. the best long-term coach Jasper ever had had no previous HC experience. and he was a year younger than Morgan is when Jasper hired him. and if it proves to be another dumb move, hey, it is Jasper's right to be dumb if they want to... ;D I am an oldster myself. I am not at all impressed by "years of experience". Someone, anyone might have 20 years experience. Then again, they might have had one year experience 20 times. Clearly many of the HC type applicants are good. Very good. But can these established coaches become immeasurably better than they have been? If they can, why have they not already reached those heights? -

We will soon know about the Board support. I cannot conceive that Mr. Coleman would have allowed this information to be published unless the Board was on board. If not, he may find himself in a pickle. ;) Then again, it is best that the Board stays out of the selection. That is why they hire professional administrators. Jasper is ready to start winning again. I do not think the Board will want to mess up the works. I admire the District for going for the unconventional pick. The "safe" picks of the recent past have proved to not be so "safe"! There are many coaches out there that can win district occasionally. Very few ever win state. They offered the job to one who had won three times as head coach, then they turned to one that has participated in three state wins. That is good enough for me. We know for sure that he will be thinking "state" and not just district. -
Everyone knows that hiring DC/HC is always going to creat some hard feelings. A good question for all of those who are upset would be this, Who gives Jasper the best opportunity to have the best football program? The best Football program meaning, Discipline, developing character in the athletes, Football Genius, surrounded by capable assistants, great in community public relations, concerned about the total athletic program as a whole. The problem with Jasper is simply this: 1. Gloomy outlook before the New coach even hits the door. 2. Mind set, how can Kirbyville, Newton produce successful programs every year, Their athletes love and believe the game they play! once winning is in your blood, its hard to remove. 3. The old glory days of Jasper sports, yea back in the day! times have surely changed, and the generation has as well. alot of these young men who take the fields today are the same fields that their fathers played on. 4. i just bet you their parents weren't up at the fieldhouses back in the day trying to disagree with what the coach was doing, lets face it, until parents start holding their athletes accountable for working hard like they use to, and put down the cell phones, and all the other distractions they care about more then the game the old schoolers loved to play you wont see a change. 5. finally, maybe just maybe, yall will get the picture in Jasper, Patience!!! you want to win, but simply just move out of the way, and let this new Coach do his job!
Agreed! Administrators, parents, fans: Everyone get out of the way and let the new coach develop his program. I do not know details of what has happened in the post Walkoviak era, but it sure seems that perhaps there may have been way too much interference at times. On the other hand, it is the responsibility of the AD/HC to sell his program and win folks over. If he cannot sell his program, it is time to move on. -

There is no way to know who the best applicant is until all the applications are in. If Jasper offered the job before all the applications were in, that would not be ethical and nor fair to all the other applicants. Jasper's duty to the athletes and fans is to hire the best applicant possible for Jasper. That is a judgement call. Jasper fans will have to trust that the right call was made.
