2.
Looks like a beat down.
yes, but it also looks much like the 2010 football score, just reversed...  ;)
 3. Jasper 107 Kirbyville 42 per post on game thread.
 4.
Jasper 107 Kirbyville 42
looks like a football score!  ;D
 5. i only want someone to stay if they are good!  ;D  the trouble is sometimes, it is the poor coaches that try to stay. but yes, I would love to see a good coach come, build up the program, and stay.  occasionally it happens, as with Walkoviak and Barbay.  But even some of the top level programs have coaching changes and the program continues to excel.  the problem is that Jasper does not have the greatest hiring record.  >:(  rarely is it going to be a talent problem.
 6.
j-dog theres no more walkoviak's,barbey's,or hooks left in high school football.money talks to the younger and older coaches these days.and i cant blame them if someone offered you $30,000 more to leave your job you would have a hard time not leaving.and for you playdefense larry upshaw did put in at hemphill but theres a few board members that dont like him.so thats a maybe for him.i hope all of them the best.me my self i would love for larry upshaw to get it good man and is a well disciplined coach the kids in jasper has been lacking for a while.and he may stay around also he likes to fish and his son loves to fish.
they have always been rare.  most coaches at Jasper before Walkoviak used Jasper as merely a stepping stone.

Caoch told me once that he and Gary Kubiak are cousins...

I could believe that.  Both are from Houston.  Interesting.
 8. It will still be a scrappy district.  Hudson always seems to reload regardless who they graduate.
 9. They legally have to go through certain procedures.  My guess is that they already have a pretty good idea who they want.  But if some super coach prospect comes in that they had no idea would be interested, I would think things could certainly turn in unexpected directions. Several years ago, Jasper "took a chance" on a 28 year old and he turned out to be probably the best coach Jasper ever had, and if not the best certainly the longest tenured at Jasper.  His name, Gene Walkoviak.  I would be happy to see them take a chance on some youngster with a Walkoviak type resume.  I never heard him make excuses, he just went out and won football games.  Once, when someone was moaning about a controversial call in a close loss, Walkoviak said it was his job to score enough points that the game would not hinge on one call, or one play.  (I guess the Texans could learn something from that idea.  ;D)

(74 TD throws the last two yrs) So...lets say that Coldspring has the defensive line to pretty much stop Holland (and you just might from what I'm reading). But do you also have the secondary to match up with a prolific passing attack? Serious question, since maybe you have that too for all I know.
And.....there you have it. Coldspring had perhaps the best run defense I've seen against the Dawgs, but Morgan was given too much time to throw, and that's asking for trouble. Gilbert was definitely all that he was advertised to be- wow! Speed to burn and shifty-quick. Congrats on making it to the State Championship; no one can ever take that away from you.
Congratulations to Carthage on the big win!  I will say this, your offensive line sure improved over when they played Jasper last year.  I remember Morgan almost getting sacked several times then.  CS never got close.  And that is saying a lot to keep CS out. And yes, Gilbert is something special.  Just like his brother at Oklahoma State.  I had the privilege of watching both, and they can MOVE!
 11.
i have heard some wild stories, and probably nothing to any of them.
okay, this is the first step in the wild stories.  the rest of them are now more plausible.
 12. i have heard some wild stories, and probably nothing to any of them.
 13. i trust that the Carthage coaches will be using those times to calibrate their defense.  ;D

The fact that Gilbert's older brother is playing as a true freshman at Oklahoma State and had a huge kickoff return for a TD against OU a few weeks ago sure isn't going to hurt either....
yeah, I think it was an 89 yard return.  Earned him Big 12 Special Team player of the week honors.  The story around Huntsville is that Justin is the fastest athlete on the Oklahoma State campus including the track team, soccer team or whatever.  For whatever it is worth, the Oklahoma State website indicates a listed time of 4.35 in the 40 for Justin.  For a fact, Justin won the 100m at 4a State this past Spring. I have seen both of them play.  My sense is that Sherman is just as fast and athletic as Justin.  I feel sure there are VERY few high school football players that would be able to match steps with Sherman.  Never know how things will turn out of course, but I can hardly wait to see how he matches up against those 4.4 defensive guys that Carthage reportedly has. Of course, key on Gilbert and Cummings can kill you.  And vice versa.  Carthage will get their stops, but if they make a mistake.....  Gonna be interesting.  This is for sure not your regular run of the mill "3 yards and a cloud of dust" running attack.
 15.
Hello SETX... I am a loyal, but informed and objective Carthage "Homer"... Just wanted to say good luck and congratulations to both teams this week... I also wanted to say that it is ridiculous to believe that either team will underestimate the other in the State Championship game... Neither team has gotten this far by underestimating their opponents... It is an awesome experience to get to support your team in this endeavor, no matter how many times your team may or may not have made it before... Only 3 years ago, we had only been to the big show once, and came up short... We know that there is a HUGE target on our backs, and I'm sure Coach Surratt and Company are fully aware of that... From the sound of it, it's gonna be a nail-biter, just as it should be... A powerhouse Coldspring running game vs. a strategically balanced offense from Carthage... Defense will be the name of the game... I'm not gonna spout stats or tout ignorant opinions without having seen your team develop over the season... And speaking of which, That is exactly what has happened to Carthage this year... We were supposed to be in a rebuilding year, and weren't supposed to even be here, AND that is exactly what we've done... This Carthage team, more than any other that I've ever seen, has developed and matured as the season came along... And as to the 2 losses earlier in the season, they were the best thing that could've happened for this team... IMO, it helped kickstart the development of these guys... I can't substantiate the claims that we were missing 9 starters... (I believe that to be incorrect)... We were down our D-1 middle linebacker,  our very talented safety/ receiver was out, and our qb was injured and didn't tell the coaches... AND we got beat... Those nights, Nac and Chapel Hill were better than us... Thankfully, we are as healthy as we can be after having played 15 games in a season... Good Luck to both teams and their families and fans... I expect both teams to leave it all on the field... As far as a prediction, I obviously have to go with my DAWGS!!!
Great post!  A voice of reason.  Someone who knows how to act after getting to the top!
Agreed!  It will be an awesome game!  Can't wait!!!!  Carthage, eat your wheaties!!!
what D does CS run?
I don't know what you would call it, but they always seem to have about five players wherever the ball is.  I saw them literally living in the Athens backfield.  But whatever Curtis Barbay ran at Newton, I would guess CS pretty much runs about the same thing.
 17.
Having watched Carthage play Jasper in 183A in 2008 & 2009 I can tell you that Coldspring better be ready to stop more then just Carthage's stud running back. They have athletes everywhere on the field. ..............
I saw Carthage last year, and Coldspring this year.  Everything you said about Carthage is true.  It is also true of Coldspring and then some.  I honestly think Coldspring brings more quickness and speed to the field than Carthage did last year.  And they have enough size to hang with Carthage.  Coldspring by ten. Good luck to both teams!
 18. I have not seen Carthage this year.  But I did see Coldspring last week.  I do believe they would have the edge over the Carthage team I saw last year.  No doubt Carthage has a RB, as did Athens.  We saw how that came out. Coldspring 22, Carthage 21
 19.
Just got on, Grad thanks for updates. Has CS been in control most of game?
Almost totally except for the last couple minutes in the half.

They are hungry..never made it this far in the playoffs and deserve a shot at the state title. GO Coldspring!! The whole 22-3A district is rooting for you!
You sure?  I thought they had made it this far back in the 90's.  WOS87???
I think Coldspring went to state in 1993 and lost to South Lake Carroll...
that sounds right.

 22. It seems like a valid question to me.  I had wondered how Athens played Chapel Hill so close (35-38).  Chapel Hill is being touted as the best thing since sliced bread, yet Coldspring handled Athens with relative ease.  I think it indicates that CS and KV are both top level teams.

Even rusty, he adds a lot into the equation.
He's either an all time great or someone hasn't seen alot of top level high school running backs...I'm leaning towards the latter...Not saying he's not a difference maker but the best you've ever seen?  That's saying alot.....
hey, give him the benefit of the doubt.  We will know after Friday night.  Probably not the "best ever" but Coldspring's Gilbert is something to behold.  It will be very interesting to see who can outrun whom.  I saw the Coldspring speed Friday with my own eyes.  If Wimberly has that kind of speed also (or better) then this is going to be one exciting game Friday night!  Get the track scouts to the game!
