  1. Easy for you to say from Orange! ;D This will be a VERY tough game. I seem to remember last year everyone was picking Splendora to fold, and they played a very competitive game. At least, I have not recognized any Jasper fans predicting an easy Jasper victory. Hope it stays that way. The place to play the game is on the field. And, I am thankful for that. Most folks gave Jasper little chance of being in the playoffs this year, even as late as mid-way through the regular season. But on the field the Dogs proved otherwise. Cheers to Coach Brooks for turning the program around in just one year. This Spring the Dog baseball team went on a mission, maybe this is the year for the football team to also go on an inspired mission.
  2. Where I was sitting I only saw a few Jasper fans leave. That place was rocking!! What a game. Silsbee, you guys are TOUGH!! See you next year, and good luck in basketball. By the way, I hear Bailey is some kind of basketball player also. Better cheer for the Dogs to make a long run in the football playoffs.
  3. you want to be the one to tell Liberty Hill in the Semi's that they were not a very good team? They only had the top rushing duo in the history of all of high school football, NATIONALLY as I remember. Or perhaps Marlin, Or perhaps Cameron Yoe that they really were not very good??? Those are consistent playoff teams, year after year. It is not left handed stuff. Just facts. See you Friday night.
  4. I watched Jasper play Clear Brook twice, both at Huntsville, and Jasper won both of those games. The last win advanced Jasper to the QF where they got wiped out by a LaMarque team that my LaMarque friend said was by far the best of all the great LaMarque teams. Those guys were HUGE to say the least, and FAST. They lived all day in the Astrodome in Jasper's backfield. Maybe there was a third time that Jasper played Clear Brook, but I can't remember that for sure. We need to check with WOS87.
  5. I saw two pitchers 21-3A getting close to 90 last year, both in the same game. Not my judgement. It was stated fact by the college scout sitting in the bleachers with a gun on them. The two pitchers: Stringer for BC, and Reagan for Jasper. As I remember they were consistently throwing around 88, and hitting 90 and up.
  6. almost true. sadly Jasper lost one of the biggest games in its history at Bowers Stadium in 1986. Lost to WOS 15-20 in the QF, and WOS went on to win state. Hooks said that if Jasper had won that game, that Jasper most likely would have won state over the two teams WOS played in the semis and finals. but that is the only playoff loss I remember by Jasper at Bowers. There may have been some regular season losses against Huntsville. Now I remember several regular season losses BEFORE they opened up Bowers Stadium for sure. I am puzzled about one thing though. I don't remember a single playoff game being scheduled at Bowers last year, and very few the past three years. Maybe they raised the rental rate ??? the games all seem to go to Conroe now.
  7. if i were to get a vote, all of jasper's playoff games would be played at Huntsville.
  8. well as i remember, Silsbee was rudely ushered out of the playoffs the next week by Palestine or somebody like that, and KV, well they were still not playing football that late in December ..... so if you want to talk about lossess ....... ;D ;D and yes, after the year Jasper had last year, I would happily take a "loss" in the state finals this year because that would mean they would have won a lot of playoff games.
  9. nor the fact that Jasper lost that game, finished third in the district, then marched right on to the state finals. a repeat anyone?
  10. WOW!! and didn't WOS beat Dayton? and Lumberton also?
  11. maybe so. Jasper cannot play the 8th graders. They have already dropped to the freshmen, at least for some of the players and Jasper is still scoring.
  12. It is fortunate to have Ellis back. He is a speedster, perhaps as fast as anyone else on the Jasper team. Has been out with a knee injury from Spring. And he ALSO has playing time at QB from last year. I smell the old qb option coming back, that is, who is the qb on this play???
  13. i said it would be a close game, game is not over yet... ;D subs coming in soon!
  14. I agree. Jasper was not consistently winning before Walkoviak came and have not been consistently winning afterward. Someday, hopefully beginning now, some coaches will stick around long enough to restore the consistently high performance. You may note the the WORST year Walkoviak had in 20 years was the 4-5 record in 1985. His team rebounded the next year to make to to the QF, losing to eventual state champion WOS by 5 or 6 points.
  15. and scored more runs at state than any other 3a team in the history of the tournament.
  16. it would help even more if Jasper loses to HJ. but if Jasper wins over HJ as many seem to expect, and if Silsbee loses to KV, then what if Jasper loses to Silsbee by say 7 points? Would Jasper go as the third place team since Jasper has a 21 point win over HF and HF has a big win over Silsbee? What if Jasper loses to HF by a lot? toss a coin to see who makes the playoffs? Obviously, if either Silsbee or Jasper win out from here, they will be in the playoffs. It seems to me to be an extremely long shot for HF to make the playoffs, or am I missing something here?
  17. KV has been letting teams hang around that in theory should not even be on the same field. Has something happened to KV since they played Jasper? Silsbee wins by at least 14.
  18. No, you have to respect everyone. Even Lumberton is winning a few games this year. And I think that IF Jasper does get a commanding lead, Coach Brooks will be substitutiong freely to give the backups some experience for down the road. I truly believe the score will not be that high; unless the reserves keep scoring as they did against BC.
  19. Dog fans, please get a reality check. HJ may be having difficulties, but they will be HIGHLY motivated to spring a huge upset. Jasper in a game much closer than folks seem to think.
  20. I agree that it was cool. But in no way was I, nor anyone I saw grabbing for blankets. Maybe we are just more used to the cold up here in the North country. Regardless, we Jasper fans are glad you made the trip and bought tickets.
