just kidding. the Dogs will quietly go back to their place in the cellar. like they did this year. No, it will be a whole new year. And it would be kind of silly for Jasper, or any other team to start staking claims. Nobody has done anything yet. Jasper for sure will have to do a bit of reloading. And what they accomplished this year will not mean diddly next year. Good luck to BC. And Silsbee. And HJ and everyone else.

You can have district, but the Dogs have already reserved the Region III and State spots. ;D
-
You should have been sitting with Shankbear, Swampdude and me! We filled the time rifling through the record book to see which record Jasper could break next! 8) I think we willed Jasper to the 14th run. ;D
-
Maybe it should be the Full Diamond Press. ??? ;D
-
According to an ad in the tournament program, you can buy a DVD or VHS tape of any of the state tournament games at www.gametapes.com or more directly for Texas (includes other sports): [Hidden Content] The cost for one DVD is $19.99 plus $5.50 for shipping and handling.

I call it Shawn's version of the Full Court Press. 8)

Don't forget there were a few team state championships in power lifting.

What if's, What if's, : This Jasper team was not the best 3A Team Ever. But if you amend that premise to having the best state performance, then very possibly. The Dogs were red hot. With 28 hits in 14 innings, my rough calculations indicate the Dogs as a team batted .400 To me that is astounding considering that for the season they only had Parsons over .400 at .412. With walks and bases on errors, their on base percentage must have been out of this world. And they did not do this against some Johnny-Come-Latelys. They did it against two veteran ball clubs who were at state last year, and also against the defending state champion. Not exactly chopped liver. Personally, I think they would have still won no matter which pitcher they faced. But we can only go by what happened, and what happened was very special for Jasper and SE Texas baseball.

92, I know you share the enthusiasm. The enormity of what Jasper did at state is still taking time to sink in. Jasper had 12 hits in the first game and 16 in the second game. That is a total of 28 hits in 14 innings, averaging 2 hits per inning! And of those 14 innings, they scored at least one run in 12 of those innings. And with 25 total runs scored, they converted nearly every hit to a run. That is simply astounding to me. They did not just win state, they made a HUGE statement about SE Texas baseball. Thank you Bridge City, HJ, Silsbee and all the other district teams for helping hone the Jasper skills to be able to represent you so well. And of course, we must not overlook the pitchers who held powerful hitting teams to three and four runs in the two games. :)
-
Maybe it is time to quit knocking the Bridge City players for those errors and give the credit to Jasper for forcing the errors with their speed and aggressiveness. It is kind of funny how two state tournament teams managed to also suddenly make several errors against the Dogs. In fact, if you were to look you might see that BC did much better against Jasper than either of those two "state" teams Jasper played at RR. Jasper came within inches of ten run ruling both state games.
-
sounds like you got enough to feed all the Golden Traiangle. ;D maybe the whole state. ;D

jasper and bridge city started playing baseball against each other in 1963 - IN DISTRICT. That was the year BC moved up from 2a. Amazingly, Jasper lost its first four game in district, while BC won its first four games. Most everyone thought Jasper had no chance at district. Even more amazingly, BC started losing games, and Jasper won the district again, and made it back to state for the second time.
-
Wish you could have been at Round Rock. Jasper did go completely nuts. ;D That final game was one special night! You may not know this, but Coach Mixon's father played on the Jasper team that went to state in 63. Shawn and his kids just finished the job they did not get done then. By the way, I ran into Coach Brack after the LE game. He played on the 61 team that went to state. I think he was as excited for these kids as he could have been if he had been on the field himself.

You may not know this, but Jasper was a baseball town long before it became a dominant football town. Jasper's first four years in the old 3a beginning in 1961, they "owned" the district title, and everything short of regional. Twice they advanced to state, and in the other two years lost the third game of the regional finals to be denied trips to state. And of course, that was when only one team advanced out of district. So Jasper is VERY comfortable being a baseball town. You have to do SOMETHING in the spring. Now we are going to turn our attention to developing our basketball program. ;D

That is a good start, but in all seriousness, I would move BC up to #2, and probably Carthage up to #3 (even though I did not see them play). Just basing that on their record until they ran into a 21-3a representative. ;D I would concur with the others but drop AW maybe down to about 8 or 9. Just opinions, but some guys (not from Jasper) said AW probably would not have made the playoffs from 21-3a this year.

now you can brag all you want to and nobody from SE Texas will have any right to complain. ;D -
Thanks for reporting in for him. How does he want it cooked? We aim to please. ;D SE Tx Broadcaster is out chief chef. ;D We need to get the order in so that he will have time to prepare it correctly.
-
That would be moving BACK to SS. That is where he played his soph year.
-
Jasper, number one team in talent? No way. But number one in the TEAM concept, maybe yes. Certainly way up on the list.
