AAW, a 57% completion rate as a senior is not too impressive.
There's a lot that can go into that at the HS level. Chances are, there were 2 or 3 drops a game by his receivers. Not saying they did or didn't, but those happen pretty frequently at the HS level compared to the college level which would bring that percentage down. And I'm not saying he'd be good at either position, just spit balling and ''what-ifing.'' Either way, LU is better off this season than last, and will be solid contenders in the slc.

Just a quick question.. Looking at how well the team rallied around Prewitt and how well he did... What do you do if Johnson is slightly better than Prewitt and it better in the ground game, but JJ is also A) The best receiver on the team B) The best running back on the team Do you keep JJ at QB and make Prewitt move.. Or keep already established Prewitt at QB and let JJ excel and the help the team greatly in that area.
-
Prewitt will play regardless, even if JJ wins the spot at QB. Prewitt wants to be on the field.. I'm assuming he'd move over to receiver and work to get reps there. From what I hear, he is a great worker.

Signed Ex Cy Young winner Brandon Webb to a 1 year contract today. Low $$$ high upside deal for the Rangers. If he's back to his old self, they just signed an ace. If he still isn't healthy.. They didn't give him very much. [Hidden Content] -
Get those linemen in the weight room and feed them!! Thats all they need! What yall forget is these kids are right out of high School and JC. Which neither have very good weight training programs. Lamar has just gotten their weight training facilities finished and it is one of the nicest facilities of any college. As long as the strength training coach knows his stuff and the guys work hard in that weight room we will all see a major improvement!!!
These days, the higher level High schools' are getting better and better weight programs. And I know that most juco's have pretty decent ones as well. Still, nothing is like a D1 Off season workout. This offseason will be the first off season with a full weight training process as well as being in the new facility. It will be very good, and we should see some solid results next year. -

Rangers picked up LHP Arthur Rhodes.. Will bring a solid vet presence to that pen. Can never have too many lefties in the pen. -

An option is a lot easier to run with a smaller o-line then trying to line up and drive the ball down the middle of their throats. With the option, you do not have to block every man. Usually, you leave at least one man unblocked PURPOSELY to give the quarterback someone to make his read off of. If that guy goes after the QB, he pitches.. If he takes the running back, the QB cuts it up and takes off. You do not have to drive the d-line back to make the play happen, it's more of a zone. And with running the option, it opens up the zone. The zone is a run play that doesn't always work, but can be very effective. Out of shotgun, (same as option) the QB hands it off to the RB and he just simply runs along the o-line as they zone block and he waits for his hole. It takes a quick speedy back to excel with this play, so I could see LU using it. -
The offense looked great? Well, with Prewitt or Bevil at QB they broke records for yards per carry 2.2. Rushing yards in a season and only scored one rushing TD and that was versus DII OPSU. The ones who looked great were our WR's as they starred with both QB's. Bevil has the record for completions in a game at 33 and yards in a game 429. He did turn the ball over too much with 14 ints and 6 fumbles in 8 1/2 games. Prewitt did a great job but was never close to the completions or the yardage record. He was 2-1 as a starter. He did show leadership and I believe the team rallied around him. But, Bevil lead the team to a victory over SE Louisiana. The only win over a SLC team. I can see someone saying our pass offense looked great with Prewitt but not our overall offense. That is what Johnson will bring to the table. He'll make the rushing attack better and I predict he'll be the starter once the season starts. I'm not going to argue the point any longer as it is stupid to do so anymore. We'll see who the starting QB is next September.
Hello option. :) -
Lamar beat Tulane last year. Something to keep in mind.

And are looking 10X better in the future. Signed utility man Bill Hall today.. He did a terrific job in Boston last year in a similar ballpark. [Hidden Content]
Hitting the eggnog a little hard AJ? Actually, I appreciate your optimism, but I cant get on board yet. In my book, they still dont have enough quality pitching (starting or relief) to compete in Minute Maid. While adding and playing the youngsters help, they still dont have enough good bats either. I hope that I am wrong and at the end of the season you can call me out and say I told you so. I wouldnt bet on it though. The best we can hope for is that the Astros gets a buyer that wants a winner. I wont bet on that either. :(
I'm just trying to stay optimistic, like you said. I'm just excited that they're finally making changes.. Hoping they're going to put the pieces together at least a little bit more. I'm saying with the next 2 years they will make the playoffs. Especially with how down the Cards are now.

Lamar signs offensive lineman from Mizzou

If I counted right.. LU only lost 2 Seniors last year. And they're bringing in AT LEAST 7 new players in the Spring. Not bad when you can go +5 from Fall to Spring! -
Gilbert's brother needs to increase that speed. He's a big guy but if he wants to play good college football, he's gotta run faster than a 5.0 flat 40.

Jeremy Johnson expected to sign with Lamar football

Everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion, but I swear some of you could win the lottery and only find time to b*tch about all the taxes you would be forced to pay. I mean he's a Cardinal now, maybe try throwing a little support his way. In the end Jeremy Johnson may be bust but it's not like he could not cut it at Sul Ross St. (DIII) and LU is counting on him to take them to the promise land. As an LU fan, I want them to recruit the best players and anytime you can sign a player that comes from a BCS program that regularly wins its conference and is traditionally a top 15 team in the FBS then I say - great!
I hope we redshirt him unless he clearly beats out prewitt.
He redshirted this year. This kid is coming to play.
