Mountain View Junior College Showcase
AJ25 replied to Dallas_Spikes's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Mountain View has a real nice facility and is a growing program.. They play lots of D1 Jucos, and you can't be living and playing in the heart of DTX. It'd be worth the trip for any guy who thinks he has what it takes to play at the next level. -

You can get tickets as low as $12.00
From that "Upper Bleacher" section, can you see the game? It looks like it's a mile from the field. That's really not bad to be a part of that aymosphere.
Fenway is a very small, tight park. Deep center is far away, but it's not not that bad. Fenway is probably the smallest park in the bigs, every seat is great. -

Take a look at the RedSox projected starters, and how they got there LF- Carl Crawford- FA CF- Jacoby Ellsbury- Home grown RF- JD Drew, Mike Cameron- Trade 3B- Kevin Youkillis- Home grown SS- Jed Lowrie- Home grown 2B- Dustin Pedroia- Home grown 1B- Adrian Gonzales- Trade C- Jason Varitek- Home grown DH- David Ortiz- Rule 5 Draft, basically home grown Rotation Jon Lester- Home grown Clay Buchholz- Home grown Josh Beckett- Trade John Lackey- Free Agent Daiskue Matsusaka- Home grown, technically Safe to say that the Sox develop a LOT more players than people think.. And not to mention guys like Ryan Kalish, Josh Reddick, Daniel Nova, Lars Anderson.. All Home grown guys that got some serious innings last year. Sure, the RedSox dabble in Free Agency just like everyone else, but they are nothing like the Yankees. -

If Clay and Lester pitch like they did last year.. And Beckett turns it around.. Looks like the Sox have a great chance to win it all. -
Why the push for Lamar to leave the southland conf.? I've read these post on hear before.
FBS is the highest level of football obviously, so any opportunity you have to put your program there (assuming the school wants their program to be FBS) you take it. Which is why Lamar is trying to find where they'll fit in. Lamar will have to expand though; looks like a second deck on the visitors side is the only option for expanding?

LSU-E is a great school. Lon Mo is mad at you, Bubba. ;) But congrats man.

The name will have to change when they lose the Western schools and add more Texas schools.. Now, realistically.. Here's what I think it takes to make the move. 1. Win. Without this, doesn't matter if we're D1 FBS or Middle School. 2. Attendance. This is the thing that I see being the biggest problem in making the move. Now, I never went to one game this year due to being off at school, but I heard attendance dropped pretty noticeably throughout the course of the year. To make the move, we have to stay over 15K every game before they even consider. Winning will keep those seats warm. 3. Money. And lots more of it. The stadium has to expand another 10-15K IMO to be a legit FBS style stadium. The facilities are good enough for FBS, but not enough seating. Now, when you put that seating in, you have to have butts to go in those seats.. Which goes back to attendance. Lamar has to win no matter where they are or this just won't work. You also have to have money for traveling, recruiting expenses, facility upgrades, uniforms, etc etc etc... 4. A great opportunity for Lamar to succeed. Don't just jump into the first available option. You have to go somewhere where you can contend right away. Lamar could be very successful in a conference much like the one posted by UNLV.

Oden out for the year....AGAIN!
Everyone forgets that Portland had Brandon Roy going into that draft and there were concerns about how those two will play together. Also go back and look at the Ohio State-Florida National Championship...Greg Oden was the best player on the floor and dominate throughout the game. Players like Oden don't come along very often...if he stays healthy who knows where his career is at. Greg Oden has never been arrested or anything like that and by all accounts is a good KID (he's only 22)...so why root against him so hard
I don't think anyone is rooting against him.. But by all accounts what has he done in the NBA? Nothing. Up to the point, he has been a bust. Only one person knows what the future holds for this kid.. And we are not him. -
Manzella cant hit a lick.. I'll take him for now, but we have 2 solid MIF coming up right now that're both 19. So Manzella can either figure out how to hit in the next 3 or 4 years, or I don't think he'll be playing anymore once they arrive. As for the management, I don't think it really has an effect on the outcome at this level. Sure, it sounds stupid. But coaches aren't the one who gets out on the field and plays.. When you have players who aren't up to par for the big leagues, but are still out there every day.. You can't win. Hence, the Houston Astros.
-
Astros are in the rebuilding process.. It will be slow and painful, but they have the brightest future now than they've had in 5-10 years. Fans are going to jump off the band wagon that don't fully support the team, but they are on the way up. The front office has already admitted they may not contend next year unless some miracles happen, but what they're doing is just like the Florida Marlins do so often; rebuild. And it usually works pretty well for Florida. I have faith in Houston, it'll be interested to see how many more people do.

The line has a couple Juco transfers playing.. But they will get much better. The best O lineman on the team is a Freshman in Kyle Gillam.. They will get better with a full off season program in the new weight room. -
Who cares if they win the game!!!!!!
. Actually I do because the truth is you will not win championships if you can't run the ball. I do not know of one example in Pro, College or HS who did not run the ball effectively and win a championship. Nice win and much needed, but they have got to establish a running game. Maybe they will make it a priority next week against arguably the weakest opponent of the season. But it is a very concerning statistic that speaks volumes about where this team is.
I expect Hussey to have a big game on the ground, considering he played for OPSU in 08. -

No one will look back at this season if the Cards go .500 and go "Yeah man, they were .500, but they had a couple calls go their way against SD." WHO CARES. They won, quit coming on here and talking down because they didn't lose like you thought they would. -
I love football- and it is a shame that instead of supporting ALL of our kids, we are worried about tearing each other down. But I would like to make a point...couldn't the football kid's parents make the same claim about the band? The band leaves the stands with a good amount of time left in the 2nd quarter to go down on to the track and warm up. I was actually at a game where the drill team was so close to the field that one of our kids accidently ran over her when attempting to catch a pass. Those kid's parents could claim that their child was distracted by flags flying or music being played...Those Lumberton kids and coaches meant no harm by warming up...they were simply doing the same thing that the band, cheerleaders, twirlers, drill team, and flag core does before their performance...warm up. My point is not to attack the band, because I don't find them distracting before half-time. I just wanted to give another point of view and remind some that we need to be supporting all of our kids!
Great post. And as for the fans complaining.. They all have one thing in common.. They are fans. They are not down there on the field playing the game. Whether it's Lumberton fans complaining, PNG, Ned, LCM, etc.. They are all fans and have no affect on the outcome on the game. Not every fan complains.. And believe it or not, some fans realize complaining does no good, and they keep their mouthes shut. Same goes for the players.. If you don't have the guts to tell a Lumberton player, or any player for that matter, that they are sore losers to their face.. Then don't call out an entire group of fans while you're hiding behind a made up name on a forum. You are generalizing an entire group of fans but one or two person's remarks and it's just not right. Whether it's about my alma-mater or any other school.

player 66, when did lumberton make excuses?
-
There is nothing wrong with Nederland playing music when they take the field.. As for the disrespect, as a former player from Lumberton.. That is the same place every team has warmed up, it's the only place to do so. It have never been a problem before because the band isn't on the field. There is no problem, and no disrespect was intended. If Lumberton getting in the way of your band makes you lose respect for Lumberton as a whole, then that is just sad. Lumberton is very well respected throughout the area.. Getting in the way of the band is nothing to complain about.
