1. He has to redshirt this year then.
I wonder if Ted Williams could have lived up to the "hype" this day and age. The kid can play ball, not sure if he will ever be able to meet the expectations the media (and in some ways himself) have placed on his shoulders.
I agree.  Anything less than being a top player in the Majors would be considered a failure at this point.  That is a lot to live up to for a young kid.  There are a lot more "sure things" that bust than succeed, especially in baseball.  Lebron is the only one that comes to mind that has been successful with this much hype at such a young age. Good Luck to the kid.  I just hope he doesn't start a trend of kids quitting HS early to play college.  Enjoy HS while you can, you can never get those years back.
If he hits .400 in that conference it's a great success. One of the best juco conferences in the nation along with Region 5 and 14, both of Texas.  :)
 3. So, if I remember right there was 35 scholarship players before today, and they added 22. So we're up to 57 now?
 4. Very good news. Lamar will surprise some people, they have some great athletes. I say a .500 record the first year, and they'll really keep even more kids here locally.
 5. Looks like a pretty solid recruiting class. One D1-AA transfer from Hofstra, might get some PT early. I'm sure there's a lot of speed in there, just wondering when they will asses the o-line? I've heard some negative things.
 6.
looks like lamar did an ok job keeping local kids at home.mcneese didnt sign any kids in our area for the 2nd year.sfa did p/u a few so woodwards still got some work to do.
After the year SFA had that's understanding.. Plus if they went on visits they saw that SFA is a much more college friendly town.  ;)
 7.
Yes!  They will be cleaning the funk off the side of the Montagne.
Who says? I'm not doubting you.. lol Just wondering.

 9. I'd rather have better facilities and worse parking.
 10. They don't need to improve THAT much... This is the same team that was 1 game out of first place at the beginning of August. The same team minus Miggy. This is an improved team, with a better and more experienced (Paulino, Bazardo, and Norris) rotation. This will be an improved club. I don't know if we will make the playoffs, but it will be improved.
 11. Not an easy win at OK State.. Great job. At this point we need to stop caring about ranking and start caring about our conference positioning.
Yeah. I don't go there, but like many students my age I have a lot of friends that do. None of them attend any basketball games or any other sport, I don't know why they don't. At my school, every student is at every game for every sport. I know this will change with football, but basketball will still be left hanging. Baseball usually draws a decent amount of students.
IMHO, it's the age old problem of not being and ATM or UT, and to a lesser extent, a part of the old Southwest Conference.  If you were not part of the SWC, you were not taken seriously when it comes to football in Texas.  It will be an uphill battle for Lamar.  It's doable as long as LU puts a competitive product on the field and has consistant winning seasons.  Oh, and have a T-shirt and cap "police" look for students wearing gear from other universities, notibly UT and ATM.  At North Texas they actually go around campus, find students with non-UNt gear, and then trade the student for whatever gear they are wearing for UNT stuff.  Then they have a "gear burning" party for all of the UT, ATM, UH, etc., trash that is turned in.  Crazy, but anything to help see nothing but "green" on the Denton campus.  Lamar should flow red.
I don't know how I'd feel about that.. I for one sported burnt orange all last weekend while I was in college station, and it would've been me against a bunch of (F)aggies if they tried to take my clothes. But it does show good school spirit, and for that I do have to agree.
 14. It's hard to believe, and kind of sad, to hear that they're having trouble generating interest in their program. I guess that's one thing that LU is clearly a little better at. If UTSA is able to go that quickly, it definitely will motivate LU and TxState to go as well.
i'm positive that won't be the case if Baylor wins.
This is the same Baylor team that lost by 2 at Kansas just a few games back.
I hope for Baylor and the Big 12's sake they're ranked after this week's poll comes out. Big 12 proving again why they're one of the strongest conferences in every sport.

The only 2 that really matter are baseball and football, and they'll be able to compete baseball wise.
IMHO, the only two that matter are football and mens basketball.  Those are the big money making sports that fund the rest of programs at the college level (tennis, soccer, softball, w basketball).  Going FBS Indy right out of the shoot is a dangerous proposition at best.  Suppose you are still without a conference after year five and your football team has to throw together killer schedules each year, with most of the big money games played away from home?  Enough 2-10 or 1-11 records starts to wear thin on your contributors and fans in general.  And it would be tough on Coker to last very long. UTSA needs to study this very carefully.  They are not Notre Dame, Navy or Army.
I do have to agree, this isn't cut out for every team. But let's be honest.. They're not going to pull the same teams that Notre Dame does. They'll probably pull Texas one year, A&M the next, Tech the next, and then the rest of the schedule be filled with teams such as North Texas, Tulane, Louisiana Laf, New Mexico, La Tech, Houston, Rice, UTEP, Utah State, etc...

 21. Old sorority dorms. Now it's just houses.
 22. Abilene is a real nice place. Was recruited by ACU and it's a beautiful campus with lots of great sports.
 23. coachocola, is the softball field still going adjacent to the baseball field?
 24. 21-3A district is slightly powerful haha.

Afraid to spend money. They decided in the 80s to be a primarlily basketball school, and they had a good run. But it's over now. If they ever want to get back to where they were, they have to fork up the money. Honestly though, this is now a football, baseball, basketball school. In that order. I don't think Tubbs main focus is basketball right now, nor should it be.
What planet are you on? I love it when people complain about the Astros not spending money and don't do any actual research!!! Houston had the 8th highest payroll in 2009 ($103 million). Behind huge markets NY (Yankes and Mets); Chicago Cubs; Boston; Detroit (only smaller market); LA Angels; And Philli. Which is proof it ain't about how much you spend, it's about who you spend it on. As far as Roc and graduation rates, again check the numbers. From what I understand this year already graduated is Hall, Nabors and Nwevo. Custer will graduate early as well. The hits for graduation came from a few years back when some of the JUCO guys left or were dismissed for obvious reasons.
Relax badndn and go read the MLB thread and my huge thread on the Astros before you say I haven't done my research. There's a difference between bad money spread out over under-producing players (Carlos Lee, Kazou Matsui, etc..) And good money spread out over rising players (Carlos Beltran, actually.. Far too many former Astros that should've stuck around but Astros were too cheap). So don't say I don't know my facts when I know just as much if not more than any average joe on here. As for Lamar, graduating is the most important thing. I don't care if you go 0-45. There are none, nor will there be, any pro players coming through Lamar. I'm sure there have been in the past, but that's the past. Sure, a conference championship will be great, but not as good as that degree.Student athletes. Now, as for Roc, one more year after this year with the young team.. And then get rid of him if he can't get the job done.
