1. As a present Juco player who has been courted by schools from every different level (DI, DII, DIII, NAIA, and Juco) I've learned quite a bit. And for parents it's going to sound bad, but coaches will tell you whatever you want to hear. They're just like car salesmen in some cases. They all have good intensions, but they're going to say what makes you happy because they know that come August it's just them and the player. Juco is a great route to go though. D1 talent EVERYWHERE. As a hitter, you'll face pitchers that have or will be drafted, or are committed to DI schools. Same for pitchers facing that level of hitters. The amount of big scholarships are much more present, like Phatmack said. DI level, full rides are non existent for the most part. DII as well. If you can get a full ride at a DII, you should be playing DI, so they are pretty non existent. And DIII can be a solid route as well. Talent level not quite as much, but there is LOADS of academic aid available at DIII's because of the fact most are private schools. This is some good info for the parents of possible college ball players.
 2. Out of those moves, I see this as a true possibility.. You can take ONE of either Figgins, Byrd, and Ankiel. Hardin would cost the Astros too much. (Not realistically, but Uncle Drayton is a tight wad) Derosa could happen. Neither catcher could be signed. They're too high on Castro in AAA. Polanco is exactly what they shouldn't get. An aging player. He'd sure fit in great though.
 3.

Next season Lumberton returns alot of players and could make a run for a playoff spot and maybe more depending on Anthony Beard, and their hitting. Corbin Bell  P/IF Jr last season Stats  7-3  ERA arond 2.2   1st team all-district Pitcher last season as a sophmore. Playing his Summer baseball with the TPX Jaxx and Beaumont Gladiators and has looked strong all summer. Has got his velocity up to 84 last weekend at a wood bat tounry in Dallas. Anthony Beard P/OF Sr as a sophmore was the number 1 for Lumberton and was clocked as high as 88 toward the end of the year. missed last season because of his knee injury so if he comes out and how quickly he picks things back up will be the key. Tyler Erickson P/IF Sr Hard throwing lefthander that has a ton of potential and was looking really strong until he hurt his Elbow against BC. Also has alot of pop at the plate. Plays his summer ball with the Sun Devils and has been making good progress this summer Ryan Hughes OF Jr Really good hitter that was up and down last season. If he can hit like hes capable then he will be a big contributer in the middle of the line up. Wayne Stanley SS Jr Has been the starting SS since his freshman year. Last year was great at SS but struggled at the plate. Has been playing with the Gladiators this summer and hitting really well. will be a big key for Lumberton at the top of the lineup. Lance Pace OF Soph started most of the season in centerfield last season and really hit the ball well when he was on varsity. I think he will be primed for a big season. Dylan Bronson P/IF Soph played alittle bit on Varsity last season and struggled alittle. He did get a save against HJ. could find a spot in the infield next season.
Also returning for Lumberton: Wes Bingham - Catcher, Sr Ryan Dunkleberger - P, Jr. Ty Choate - Pitcher, CF Sr.
Dunkleberger hasn't played on varsity before. He could see some time this year possibly.

 5. Played against him for 3 years.. Very tough competitor on the mound and at the dish.
 6.
I agree with you to a point AJ25 but LU has quite a few other projects going on... They have almost completed the soccer complex with field house, they have completed 2 practice fields, and are working on the staduim and football field house... On top of that they are redoing the band hall and numerous other buildings...
I understand that.. It's the fact that they repeatedly say stuff will be done and it neverrrrrr gets done.
 7. It's sad to see how slow the construction company there is moving. I play baseball at a junior college who is bringing their football team back next year, just like Lamar. In less than a month.. Two very nice full size practices fields have been put in, two big parking lots have been put in, and a very big athletic facility has been put it. Granted the athletic facility obviously isn't what Lamar is going to have.. The facility here would be a top notch high school facility (which is normal for a junior college.) And you can't blame it on the weather, because I'm only 2 hours from setx, and we're getting the same weather here. This construction company is just getting after it. Kind of makes me wonder about what is taking so long over there. And a good 10 acres of trees has been flattened for new baseball and softballs facilities, and new dorms. All of this STARTED in the beginning of October. What is taking so long Lamar?

Beard was throwing in the mid to upper 80s as a Sophmore.
Hmmm, is this a 'scare tactic' if true he should be in the low 100s as a senior..... ::) ::)
lol no it means that chances are he's still there? if he plays he will help them a lot.
 10.
I don't see him starting this year, there's so much talent and depht at LSU right now.
Last time I talked to him he's one of the 4 fighting for the 3 spots. I like his chances. Who knows though. Red and white would certainly welcome him with open arms.

 18.
Texas State has good facilities, not great.  Their stadium is still smaller than Lamar's with a track around the field. For a school with 30K students, they only average 12K in a good year.  They are not like McNeese where they always have a good team, they usually have mediocre teams.  And because Texas State is sandwiched between Austin and San Antonio they don't get much press.  UT football gets all the attention while Texas State hardly gets noticed. Central Texas is a nice area and if you go to Texas State you get to party to Austin!!
Do we need another reason? lol. Their stadium is LEGIT though, even if it may not be very big.
why???
I'm sorry, if Texas State offers me.. I'm going there. Great facilites, play atleast 1 BIG D1 each year, they win.. They aren't a start up program? Nothing against LU, but the coaches are going to have to do some great persuading to pull some of these guys away that get offers to serious contenders each year. Local guys would probably stay here over Texas State or SFA, but we won't win if we get ONLY the left over local guys..

 21. 3 weeks later.. is it looking any different? Not living in the area anymore so I don't get to see it. Any updates anyone??
 22. Thank you guys for your information. Just to add a little but of info in there for the families of kids that AREN'T involved in select ball.. Don't feel like it is a necessity to play at the next level. I am proof of it. Although select ball does help loads, it's not completely necessary. Tips for parents that have kids not involved in select (as well as kids responsible enough to do this): 1. Get a correct evaluation on your child's talent level, and what level that could possibly play at. There are very few D1 players out there, don't waste your time contacting coaches from BIG 12 schools if you throw low 80's and don't hit .500. 2. Set up a video camera and video tape your child at their respective position. A lot more recruiting is done through videos than what people believe. 3. Begin making casual contacts with college coaches. Don't exagerate everything and send video in the first email. The first email should simply be you telling the coach a little more about yourself or your child, and giving them an idea of where you're at talent wise. If they email back and request video, THEN send it to them. 4. If the coaches request video and like what they say, they will either (most likely) come watch you play or bring you to the school for a private tryout. Don't feel like if you don't throw 90 and don't hit for a .500 average you can't play college baseball. Those numbers there are good enough for big D1 schools. If you can throw mid-to-upper 80's with a good offspeed you can go to a legit JUCO (the way to go if you can't play D1) or a good D2. Low 80's you can go to a lower level JUCO or D3. Most people fail to realize that a lot of the recruiting process has to be done by YOU! The college coaches don't have much time, like Jason and Chris have both said. It's a process that needs to be started no later than your junior year.

 25.
Phil Garner, He knows what Astros fans expect.
What's that..? A terrible slow start, leading to a strong finish coming up just short? Bring in Brad Mills from Boston. Been there for a while, and knows what it takes to win. Don't bring back Clark as the Manager, just let him coach third again. Garner would be my second option.
