after the scoring drive to start the game, lamar didn't get another first down until halfway thru the 3rd qtr. that says it all for how well they played as a whole. end of story. oh, and puddin lame, i feel for you having to sit thru that. LOL
You are so damn stupid it is comical.  Apparently the only way a team plays well is if they score on every drive and if the defense gives up no points and no first downs?!  It is apparent you were cut from a lamar team of some sort.  And, you probably were kicked out of the University for excessive stupidity. We are damn first year program and we've beaten South Dakota and SE Louisiana!  That has to be a hard pill for you to swallow. We played a great first first quarter and an outstanding fourth quarter.  Our defense played great the whole game except for that one drive in the 4th quarter where SD scored easily on 2 or 3 running plays.  Prewitt was cool as a cucumber, extremely accurate, and made nice decisions.

Doug was on point all night. And beautiful catches from Hayes, Jackson, Ford, and Prejean!! Defense was great against the pass and horrible versus the run but got it done. And believe it or not there was a sighting of a Lamar kicking game! (No punting game however..)
we had a good 1st and 4th qtr offensively..D played ok..  (sd had a huge line)....first drive was awesome..we had outs and slants and quick hitters..then we reverted back to only the outs and things got stale for a while... wr play was awesome! Awesome game, wish people woulda showed up!   Little cold front, put it on TV...recipe for a poor turnout whoo hoo...that was fun GO BIG RED
how can you say the first qtr was good? because LU scored? after that botched td call that gave LU pts they went 6 straight drives w/o a first down. so please explain?
I watched the entire game and thought we played very well.  Our trouble rushing the ball is nothing new and although it doesn't help too much, the rushing includes the sack yardage.  We did play a very good 1st quarter and an outstanding fourth quarter.  And yes, that first drive was the reason we havd a very god first quarter.  I think it was like a 12 play drive and prewitt was 7-8 or something like that?
Ok follow me on this.  Lamar beats South Dakota which beat Minnesotta which beat Illinois which beat Penn St which beat Michigan which beat Notre Dame which beat # 14 Utah today.   Lamar Cardinals should be ranked in the top 15 in the country !!!!!   Show some love pollsters !!!!!
I'm with ya!!!
 4.
Just saw a list of all Houston area kids (boys & girls) from all sports who have signed in the November signing period so far.  Lamar has not signed one kid from Houston for any sport so far.  Saw lots of other SLC schools with Houston area signings.  Would think that LU would work the Houston area hard.  Don't get it why they aren't?
Screw houston.  Although I seriously doubt that we don’t recruit houston.
Someone finally gets it!  For all of his knowledge of offensive schemes and plays, Todd Dodge never understood the urgency in getting quality offensive and especially defensive linemen.  Loaded up the scholarships with wide receivers.  *sigh*
If your O-line is great, your grandma can be an all american RB.  They make RB's always look better.  Great O-lines are a function of your O-line coach and your strength and conditioning coach.  It also nice to have a little "nasty" bred in them.
Agreed
 7.
From the Beaumont Enterprise:
Both wore green practice jerseys given to quarterbacks during the week, but Doug Prewitt logged most playing time with the No. 1 unit. He threw all but one pass during Friday's walkthrough in preparation for tonight's game against the University of South Dakota at Provost Umphrey Stadium. "It gives us a lot of options," coach Ray Woodard said about having two healthy quarterbacks. Among those options is for both players to be on the field simultaneously, one as a quarterback and the other as a receiver.
[Hidden Content]
Interesting idea except I cannot picture skinny little bevil catching a pass.  He has zero muscle and is way too scared of being hit to be running around the secondary.
 8.
Ah, listen to the masses once again getting a little excited. You guys kill me. But I gotta admit, I'm getting a little excited myself. Nothing like a little fire under your butt to produce.
As come on. We have never udeservedly hyped a lens basketball team here!  Why it has only been 25 short years since we have had a decent team. .
 9.
It all depends on the weather.  Hopefully the rain will stay away.  If the forecast was good I think we would have another sellout on our hands.
 10.
If Lamar starts Prewitt at QB I think we will have a shot at home for an upset....With  Bevil... ::) Lamar 20 S.D. 17
Lamar 14 S.D.  24
 11.
Yes, way over their heads. I am now thinking Woodard was a mistake. He is showing no leadership, no team discipline, and no creativity. I didn't expect Lamar to win much this year, but I did expect steady improvement with something to look forward too next year. This team is not showing improvement, no heart, NOTHING to get excited about for next year. Lamar has a talent defense but ran with simple jr high schemes. LU offense runs 5 plays, 4 passes and 1 run. The most simple offense in all college football.
I definitely think the coaching could be better.  You are right about the vanilla defense and unimaginative offense.  However, you are off base with the 'no heart' comment.  I think, except SFA, that we've played very hard.  And I don't see where you come up with the 'no discipline' comment.  At least from their play on the field.  I haven't noticed us getting a lot of stupid penalties or many late hit penalties at all?  I'm curious, how has our penalty situation been?  Anyone know?
 12.
Well, ole Whitten may have a say in it. But, you are right it comes down to the Head Coach on which player to start. IMO, Prewitt deserves the start with his play but some coaches don't give away a starter's job due to injury. It would be a mistake not to start Prewitt. He has more upside to him as a freshman than Bevil does as a red-shirt junior and 7 /2 games under his belt. He was knocked out of the SFA game and didn't play today. So, he has only played in 7 1/2 games but I've seen enough interceptions and fumbles by him to last me a lifetime.  ;)
did prewitt have any fumbles?  It was nice to see our defense score.  The special teams are a big weakness right now.

How sweet! ;D
Thanks. At least I have one person not telling me every other week to get off the board.
Seriously, I wish you would get off the board.  You are an idiot and you are on here just to dog LU.

A couple of plays here and there and Lamar wins this game. Can't keep losing the special teams battle and have a below average running game which has yet to score and win these close games.
Our defense played another great game.  Our offensive scheme is horrible.  I think Prewitt is showing he CAN play.  Thank god they actually let him throw the ball a little.  I thought we ran the ball fairly well?  How many rushing yards did we end up with?

I have several relatives and friends who have been in the coaching profession or they are currently coaching. That has no barring on my knowledge of the game of football and neither does your relationships cause you to know more. Honestly, I am very surprised that the son of a high school coach who won a state championship thinks he knows as much about the game as people who it is their JOB to know the game. Thanks for the prior post, as we can all see you are a fair weathered fan. Support when they win and stay away when they aren't.  ::)
Why give your money to Lamar when they are producing what they have in the past few games. There's a difference in supporting the University and supporting a poor product on the field. Would you go to the local theater if they always had choppy films just because they are a local business that needs supporting? I doubt it. College athletics is like any other business. If you want support then you need to produce a consistently good (doesn't have to be great) product.
Because a true fan supports their team through the good an bad times.
ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!!!!!!!
 20.

Because a true fan supports their team through the good an bad times.
You can support a team without going to the games. I support the Kats, I still buy t-shirts and hoodies, and I promote the school where I am. Attendance at a game doesn't make you a fan, it's like the good ol' saying, siting in a garage doesn't make you a car.
You have been supporting the Kats the past 5 years, right?
BigRed, actually 6, and this will be my 7th. I was a Kats fan in HS when I was deciding which college to attend. Every fan has to start some time, I'm just a bit younger than most fans. However, I will say this, I'm not a t-shirt fan like a lot of people I went to school with. My school was a heavy A&M area, but it seemed like after UT won the national championship, I saw more UT shirts than I had ever seen in my life. That reason alone is why I never wanted to go to UT or A&M, THAT is a badnwagon fan, not a true supporter
First since your not an Lamar alumnus, but an alumnus from another rival school you couldn't understand. For you to post this makes no sense. If your not an alumnus but a local who supports Lamar because it is in your back yard then the story is different. I can see if we had 10 years of losing football teams then you might become disillusioned and stop supporting the team. But we have less than one season under our belts. Anyone who stops supporting Lamar now isn't a fan worth having anyways. For myself who will graduate this year and become an alumnus of the university my support is life long. I want us to win but if we don't I'm not going to stop supporting the team. Lamar means much more to me than just a sports franchise, it's where I have been tailored into the person I am today.
Actually, I do understand because Coach Whitten drove our program into the ground in his final years. I was fortunate to come to one of Ron Randleman's last games with PNG great Dustin Long right before the deep playoff run. Whitten inherited a great team and did nothing with it. I know what it's like to be excited about a season, your players, your hopes for the year, and then to see them piddle away with poor coaching. What Whitten has done to the Cards offense over the last few games is what he did to the Kats offense in the last two years. How Bomar got drafted with Whitten as a coach, still amazes me. Lamar is that back yard team that I want to see do well against non-SLC competition. heck, I want the whole SLC to perform well and boost the conference as a whole. It benefits everyone in the conference when there's success. I saw a lot of people give up on Sam and stop donating to the school because of how poorly the football team is doing, in my mind, that's unacceptable. If you don't want to support the football team because they're putting a poor product on the field, that's one thing, but I don't think you should ever stop supporting your alma mater. If you don't go to games because you don't like what's on the field, that's fine. If someone stop supporting Lamar entirely (not buying shirts, not donating to scholarships, not visiting campus) because of the football team, that's unacceptable in my book.
Make up your mind...do you support your team when they lose or don't you? For me it is easy.  I have no problem saying they stink IF they stink.  However, not supporting them definitely won't help them get better.  So, always support them and always attend the games if possible.
 21.
Special Teams and the Quarterback seem to be the problem that is always discussed on this board.  I know this is always someones opinion so keeping that in mind, here is mine our quarterback does throw too many interceptions and throws to a receiver when he has 2-3 players covering him  then we are lucky if we catch the ball.  Don't get me wrong he does have an arm but that is not always gonna get us 6 points on the board. Next is the KICKER.  Not impressed with him and have not been since day one.  He has kicked a 47 yarder, wow he misses everything else.  If he is really hurt take him out, let him heal, so that when he gets back on the field he is 100 percent.  Not fair to the kid to make him keep kicking , what if he tears something in his leg then he will be out longer.  Beeing that said  isn't he suppose to be ALL STATE,  who votes on that he can't even kick the ball deep, and the past few games his pooches go as far as his regular kick offs, don't mean to be ragging on him but really kick off is not his strong point. Not counting the balls that were kicked out of bounds of kick offs.  Special Teams give up too much yards on kick off too.   If the kicker would kick it further to the end zone maybe we would not have this problem.   I know there are other factors to this like coverage from the other players but if the key players do their job then everything else falls into place.    Don't the punter kick off too why not use him for kick off to save the kickers leg just for field goals. I know we are young but so are the other teams and they seem to be winning so what are we doing wrong as a team. I will continue to support LAMAR and go to their games but what about bringing more local athletes, they will bring more to the home games than out of town players who bring maybe 4 when you will have more of the community to back LAMAR.  Yeah I know there are some local players but some schools were overlooked maybe this next year will be different.
Huh?  Have you seen the roster???  We have a ton of local talent on the roster.

 24.
Looks like SHSU is the team to beat in the conference: #105 Sam Houston St - The Bearkats will rely on juco transfers and new coach J. Hooten to stem the loss of backcourt. Their best frontcourt player (Clavell) is also a juco transfer.  I still believe that in the SLC you have to recruit a lot of juco players because it's near impossible to recruit top notch HS players every year.
SHSU 105 and LU 243...how sad....and what is even more depressing is the fact that 243 is a very good ranking for us relatively speaking.  (Post 1988 teams or is it 1987...when was the last time we were decent?)
