Dodge reflects on next move
I think Woodard makes at around $135K and the assistants around $60K. The OC and DC may make more than that. I doubt we'll see Woodard and the other coaches getting big raises any time soon so unless Dodge wants a big time cut in pay he won't be coming to Lamar.
I thought Dodge was unemployed. So, unless we would make him pay us for the right to coach here he wouldn't be taking a pay cut. -
And in the other Lamar forum it's being reported that Doug Prewitt will start for Lamar.
Good! Maybe they will even let him pass. I can't believe how we ended the last game against UND just running the damn ball. It would have been a perfect opportunity to let Prewitt get some real reps..instead we tell him to just go in and hand the ball off. How idiotic.
1kAtKiller, you made a great post earlier in this thread. My dream as a teenager was to be a coach. But, life had me join the military for several years. Then after enrolling at Lamar as a kinesiology major, I visited with my brother often as he was already in the coaching profession although he is younger. I seen how hard he worked. How many hours a day he put in and how many days a week he worked. Especially his work load during football and track as he was an assistant in both sports. So, I decided to change my major to nursing. I stated all the above to get to the point that only another coach has the right to judge another coach. People who aren't in the profession have no clue what it takes to be successful and sometimes as a coach you can do everything right and still lose. You won't see me posting anything negative about a coach at any level. Now, that doesn't mean I always agree with their actions. ;D
This has to be one of the most rediculous posts i've read to date. are you seriously sitting there stating that no one has the right to question a coach unless they're a coach themselves? LOL, i'm not "in the profession", but i can bet you i've forgotten more about this game then you'll ever know about! And for katkiller, ask jim harbaugh, or jimmy johnson how long it takes to turn a program into a traditional winner, or nick saban, urban meyer, i guess i could go on, but you get the point. Set goals for your team, high ones and when the team has one to shoot for, you create teamwork, have your team working together for a common good. Don't settle for the same old generic "well it's our first year, i don't expect us to win". Those are nothing but excuses. And excuses are signs of weakness.
Wow, how enlightening!!! You are brilliant!! I think you could have taught Vince Lombardi a thing or two with your brilliant insight!! I didn't realize that coaching was so simple. Set high goals...i bet no coaches do that!!! Utterly brilliant!!! And excuses being signs of weakness?!! Wow, how did you think of that. Please great one, share some more of your tidbits so that we may all achieve your greatness!!! -
Sorry, don't agree for several reasons. One, being Lamar just spent about $30 million on the new athletic complex, the suites, press box, turf, scoreboard and renovating Provost Umphrey Stadium. Two, football is being 110% supported by the university administration and the athletic department. Three, this is our first year as a start-up program and we are all guilty of expecting too much too soon. Four, the students voted for the return of football by 78% and have a football fee added for each credit hour they are taking. Five, have you been to a home game yet? The tailgating and game day atmosphere has been great for every game and those spots were sold with a three year commitment. Now, within the next three years Lamar needs to be competing for the SLC championship. So give the coaching staff some time as LU has the best facilities in the conference. This is a major recruiting advantage. We will have the off season strength and conditioning program (Lamar has never had a strength and conditioning coach) and we have two coaches that is their job to get the returning players bigger, stronger and faster. Then add a couple recruiting classes to add depth and better athletes. It is way too early to compare this current squad and those 20 years ago.
They can spend as much as They want....its all hype. Just wait and see what the attendance is next year or two. Then remember my words.....it'll be just like 20 years ago...minus 30 million dollars. Haha
Well the following schools are not in their first year and are having disappointing seasons, I think that their football programs are about to be cancelled: University of Texas 4-4 Colorado 3-5 Texas Tech 4-4 Kansas 2-6 Boston College 3-5 Duke 2-6 Wake Forest 2-6 Cincinatti 3-5 Memphis 1-7 Minn. 1-8 Tulane 3-5 Rice 2-6 Notre Dame 4-5 Akron 0-9 Byu 3-5 Colorado St 3-6 UNLV 1-7 Wyoming 2-7 New Mexico 0-8 Tennessee 2-6 Ole Miss 3-5 North Texas 2-6 Western Kentucky 1-7 Ark State 3-5 Nicholls State 2-6 SE La 2-6 -
South Alabama also played that schedule because they're games don't count as DI wins. It's hard to get a school to play you if you're not counting towards their DI win column total. It's different for Lamar when it comes to FCS games like McNeese, SHSU, and SFA because we recruit in that area. We want to be able to play the Cardinals and show the local kids how much better our schools are, yada yada yada. It's the same reason that all the FBS schools are lining up to play UTSA, who has never played a down of football, and it's because San Antonio is a recruiting hot bed.
So there weren't/aren't schools that play against South Alabama that would want to show kids they are better than them for recruiting purposes? Weak argument -

Alcorn State has the distinction of being # 345. And of course the SLC already has some teams on the list along with a few of Lamar's opponents this year. #318 UT Pan Am - UTPA brings back most everyone from a 6-win team, but the Broncs showed promise w/ a defense better than most in GWC. (Lamar plays UTPA Nov 23rd) #302 C. Arkansas - New coach Corliss Williamson has his hands full getting the Bears competitive again, but he returns seven lettermen. #299 Northwestern St - Losing two starters will make much improvement tough; Seniors D Baker, D Knight and W Pratt will need to step up. #286 McNeese St - With top 3 players returning, coach D Simmons hopes JuCo transfer M Konate adds the spark Cowboys need to compete. Shouldn't that be 7 wins for Lamar right there? Follow along here (it's updated every hour): [Hidden Content]
Not necessarily. Where is Lamar? 344? -
