  1. and if you do crash the boards out of it, it is more difficult for the defense to block out on the perimeter
  2. Go check out TABC website under games needed. Several schools are in your same boat. It is pretty stinkin late to drop a game, but you do have time to replace it.
  3. Let me be less vague. Lumberton's coaches beat the Silsbee coaches and Kountze coaches ;D. As far as being down goes. I know for us,we had only 2 subs, we all went home extremely tired. I for one was down on the couch for the rest of the day. The part about Coach Williams was just a little sarcasm. We unfortunately didn't run into him out there. Bottom line is Children's Miracle Network raised about $4500 for a great cause. Hopefully next year we can get more people from this board involved and make the event bigger and better.
  4. I obviously don't know details like you do about the program there, but maybe they need an energetic young coach with something to prove. It wouldn't hurt that he was from a top notch area program either. It didn't seem to hurt your career any. Just a thought.
  5. We are now down, but only cause we're old and outta shape ;D If only Travis would've come and coached...
  6. Why come on here and try to diminish a kid's accomplishment? I'm pretty sure anyone in the know would agree that Hammond and Fitch can fill it up from 3pt land with the best of them. Especially an uncontested shot, as in the competition. And Cervantes got beat out by Fitch by one shot. How much more advertising is needed? It was posted on SEXTsports.com(what else was needed?) which most coaches and many of the kids read. Plus they called the local schools to let them know about it. The first time you put something like this on, the turnout might not be the best. But I believe they had about 20 kids compete in the shootout.
  7. Are we talking about putting all privates in UIL or just ones who want in?? If all were put in UIL and made to play 5a, they would most likely HAVE to recruit to compete. I personally don't like the idea at all. There are too many opportunities for privates to take advantage of the system and recruit. You says UIL schools in Houston recruit but at least the player has to live in the district and complete a PAPF form that the previous school must sign off on and be approved by district committee.
  8. I don't have a horse in this race but I'm gonna through out a few comments: - A school district's budget is mainly made up of paying salaries and paying utilities. Neither of which can be skimped on. - For the most part the district revenue from taxes stays the same, except for raising property values. So the leftover goes into maintenance/school improvements. - Older buildings will cost more and more each year in utilities and maintenance. At some point in time the district will be robbing Peter to pay Paul to cover maintenance and buildings will delapidate. To me the whole issue should hing on cost effectiveness and where you set your priorities for kids. Do you make your kids ride in a 1972 Impalla hoopty rollin tailpipe draggin, with no air, terrible gas milage, safety issues just because it WILL get you where you need to go, or do you upgrade at some point? What about your home, ever move to a nicer home? I hope everyone looks in the mirror and is not hippocritical just to be selfish and save a little dough.
  9. All a person(parent, student, coach) has to do is look at the written athletic guidelines. It is clear a kid can play in two sports as long as the 2nd sport doesn't interfere with the practice or games of the 1st sport. I obviously don't know what was said or not, but for ANY coach to discourage a kid from playing any sport is just WRONG. These kids get to go through HS once. I'd like to think that didn't happen. I coach the the boys basketball and have a pretty good freshman kid who also played soccer. He even ended up playing varsity soccer as a freshman. That is because the kid works hard and is a competitor. Kids can be very successful in multiple sports. Happens all the time. Just look at Jeremy Garza a couple years ago. He was a very good football, basketball, soccer player and ran track.
  10. All it's doing is spreading out the defense in hopes of getting layups only. Used properly it is actually a great offensive weapon as the losing team can't just pack in a zone hoping the winning team will shoot themselves out of the game. Used wrong it can backfire as it may get you out of an offensive rhythm. Ex: One year we were beating a team we had no business beating at half by 8pts. They came out like gangbusters and erased that lead in a few minutes due to a shooting streak and we couldn't hit(and I'm sure they had their butts chewed pretty good!!). As soon as the other team got up by 1pt they went to a spread. We let them hold it until 1:30 left in the game. We had 3 shots to win, two which rimmed out, and lost by 3 after fouling with just a few seconds remaining. That team risked losing to an "overmatched" team by "stalling" it with a one possession lead.
  11. And maybe you should be banned from using sarcasm ;D
  12. Since there was a little basketball dicussion going on about this, what are your thoughts?
  13. BISD athletic director Rodney Saveat said he did not know what the policy is regarding a student-athlete who had been arrested for marijuana possession Surely he is being mis-quoted?????????????
  14. That 7'1 transfer from Nigeria would help!! Really here is what what we really need: to believe that we can be successful. If we really believe that then we will be willing to sell out and do what ever it takes to get better. There is only so much that can be done in a 60 min athletic period. The players must be willing to put in the extra time after school and in the summer to work out and condition. Our team coming back has enough team speed to be solid defensively, we have a very quick point guard, a guard who has a good mid-range game, a few kids who can shoot outside, a couple of scrappy kids inside, returning varsity experience, who should be pretty pissed off at the way last season went. We should be much better as a whole team than we were last year with 7 kids returning instead of 2. And we will probably work on blocking out every great once in a while too : : We know we haven't won enough last year to get most people's respect right now. OK that's fair. And everyone is entitled the right to be a bleacher coach in this great country we live. Just please Basketballcoach, if you really are a coach who "I coached against marsh this year in the playoffs and he put up 39 and 17 reb. against us....." be a little more professional in you comments you make on a public forum before you look any more like a ....well one of those bags women use when they are not so fresh ;D BTW we are planning on finally getting a banner put up for that 2000 team.
  15. The only way for HF or anyone for that matter to get better is to play. Your guys have got to be in open gym, summer league, YMCA, the park, ect... If you aren't playing year round you will be at a severe disadvantage. There is no way an AD can keep your kids from playing. There are just too many opportunities to play around SE Texas.
  16. OK Here’s what’s really “wrong†w/Lumberton: 1. Nothing-we returned 2 players from last year's team. 2. Nothing-we got a late start because of football(which we do not regret one bit) 3. Nothing-we played our first 5 games with 7 kids(only one with any varsity experience) 4. Nothing-we had a total of 6 practices with all our players before our first district game. 5. Nothing-we have only 3 seniors on the team, one did not play last year. 6. Nothing-we are not as tall or as talented or as athletic as anyone we play. 7. Nothing-we know that just about everything is stacked in the other teams favor. 8. Nothing-we know these are all just excuses and we are going to work to overcome all of that 9. Nothing-we know we are going to play our butts off the whole game despite the odds. 10.Nothing-the tides WILL turn. Now, as far as people who want to come on here and type a bunch of crap that they know nothing about…heck I guess it is your right to do that… Just make sure you don’t get your panties all in a wad when someone returns the favor. As far as coaching goes, I’m not going to claim to be the best coach around, or come on here and claim to know everything, but I will claim this: I’m going to work my tail off to be the best I can be and get things done the right way. Will I ever get to the point where I’m good enough?? No… IMO there is no such thing as good enough. BTW-thanks for the little bit of motivation!! Aaron Wueller
  17. Thanks Coop!! I'm very excited to get the opportunity to coach these kids on the varsity level. I played for a very good coach(Knowles@TJ) and worked under two very good coaches(Richards and Henry) who I have learned a tremendous amount from. I will assure everyone that we will work our tails off to have these kids ready to play. Coach Wueller
