  1. I'd disagree with this completely....the spread can take advantage of whatever you have....size or speed...it puts players in more 1 on 1 matchups. Now if you're going to line up and run the I or the wishbone then it's much more dependent on having big linemen that can dominate the line of scrimmage....hence MUCH more dependent on your personnel. Bill Walsh "created" the west coast offense while in Cincy under Paul Brown to address their inability to run the football because they didn't have the personnel to do it. As for your defense, I still have no idea how what offense you're running impacts the way you play defense?? If your defense sucks while you run the spread it will ALSO suck when you run the I formation. I agree with that to a point. The offense can help the defense by controlling the clock. There have been multiple games in the last few years when the defense was on the field around 75% of the time. If your defense is fresh in the 4Th quarter they will play better, I don't care what offense you run. Too many times this year the defense makes a stop and the Offense goes 3 & out or commits a turnover. In a game last year, the defense made a stop and the offense got the ball back with 3 minutes to go in the game and a 7 point lead. After 3 straight incompletions, 14 seconds were burnt off the clock. That is not a spread problem, its a play calling problem. Against Ozen, Nederland only allowed 10 points in regulation. That should be good enough to win most games. If the offense can hold onto the ball and control the clock with a good running game, the defense will be fine.
  2. Running the ball and eating clock will help the Defense.
  3. Bunting should be taught WAY before high school. If you learn to handle the bat at an early age, it carries over throughout your high school career.
  4. I guess I don't know about the 8 hour rule.
  5. I disagree with that. A really good bunter gets it down 9 out of 10 times or more. Maybe ya'll have some guys at Carthage hitting .900, if so 3a better watch out.
  6. I was watching the highlights of the Twins-Tigers game from yesterday and it got me thinking. The Twins had a chance to tie for the division lead with 5 games to play. 9th inning runner on 3rd- Twins attempt Squeeze only to pop it up into a double play. Is the squeeze worth the risk?? Pefectly executed it is unstoppable, but mess it up your rally is over. In the games I have seen over the last few years, I would say the success rate is way below 50%. I've seen a lot more missed attempts and pop ups than successfull bunts. It seems that bunting in general is a lost art. I had a select coach tell me one time, "the parents don't pay me to teach bunting." Is that the problem? Is it not taught at a young age? Every parent wants their kid to be a homerun hitter, but being able to handle the bat can lead to just as many wins as longballs. Any thoughts? Oh yeah, Is it baseball season yet???
  7. If buses are the problem, you would think some parents would load up their cars and haul the kids. I know I would for my kid. If the girls would rather be at the football game, then that's a whole nother story.
  8. OF is loaded and will have a very good run this year, but they need to beat BC with Hicks on the mound to jump them in the polls IMO. What position does Huckabay play?
  9. Could see Qb's #4 and #5 on the year for Nederland.
  10. Yeah, I agree with that. I forgot about them since they moved out of our local district.
  11. You're referring to this year's sophomore classes. I'd say that Nederland's Fresh/Soph classes are two of the best they've had in a long time... maybe since Neumann has been here. The PNG Soph class is strong, the freshman class is not. Tough to predict future success based on 7th/8th grades, but based on what's happening in the 7th/8th grades, Nederland will be stronger athletically than PNG. None of this really matters. C.O. hasn't lost a game in years. This years Senior class was 9-1 as freshman with only a 1 point loss to Dayton. That included 2 beatdowns of PN-G by 40+ points. For some reason all of the success at the lower levels for Nederland is not translating into W's for the varsity. Jack Lynch is by far the best middle school coach in the area and has been for 30 years, but somehow unbeatable 8th grade teams does not always lead to success on Friday nights.
  12. Ploch- Dayton
  13. 1. Nederland 2. PN-G 3. Bridge City 4. Orangefield 5. Vidor 6. West Brook 7. LC-M 8. Hamshire-Fannett 9. Lumberton 10. WO-S I didn't include any 19-4a teams, because I'm not real familiar with what y'all have coming back this year. Let me hear your arguments for your teams, I'm sure some are worthy of being in the top 10.
  14. I think our best bet over the next 4 weeks is to put Brady under center with Lovelady, Cardenas, and Salenga in the backfield and run the heck out of the ball. We drove down the field with that formation against Ozen then decided to get cute and threw and INT in the endzone. Nederland needs to find a way to get the ball in the hands of their best athletes on offense. Ball control also helps the defense. The best way to beat PN-G, is to keep Harmon and Doty on the sideline.
  15. Pee Wee Lumberton Red 7 Lumberton Blue 6
  16. I would think Brady would be the 5th string QB. Hopefully Dionte will be back soon.
  17. Brubaker, Are you seriously saying that Ozen impressed you? I thought both teams looked pretty bad. I agree. I don't know what game he was watching.
  18. Nederland may be looking at going 1-9 on the season, unless something changes real quick. The other teams in the district all seem to be playing well tonight. These 2 teams will probably finish at the bottom of the district this year.
  19. Wow! I got home just in time to hear the last play. Great game by both teams.
  20. I sure didn't expect 100 points in this game.
  21. #2 Qb is probably done for year also
  22. Neither team is very good right now. Both have a lot of work to do over the next 6 weeks.
  23. Extra point is kicked for tie breakers I guess. Final is 17-10 Ozen
  24. 25 yard TD pass on 3rd and 10. Final Ozen wins 16-10
  25. Ned fumbles 1st play. Ozen ball
