  1. 12-4 winner. Move to 9-9 in conference. Huge series in Lake Chuck starting Friday.
  2. Pitching and hitting combined. Didn't track game, but Lamar was able to pitch around 10 hits and 3 walks to only give up 1 run.
  3. Today was bad. However, they have an excellent shot at the tournament with the set up. 7 teams go with the 1st place squad receiving a bye. HCU has to face McNeese, A&M Corpus (presently playing finale against McNeese) and UIW face each other, and Northwestern State faces SELA. If McNeese wins today...HCU, Lamar, and A&M Corpus will be all tied for 5th and Northwestern holding a 1 game lead on those 3. Lamar should be the 6th seed at worse and could grab the 4 seed with a sweep. Now, go get swept by Commerce and that would be the ultimate disaster.
  4. Lamar finally on the right side of a tight one!
  5. Wasn't watching at the time but Duke while utilizing the Durham Bull's facility had a power outage delaying a conference game. Leads me to a general question but not a specific game situation as I have only seen or been part of power outages during dead ball situations. How would an official handle a power outage during a nightgame of course that occurs while a ball is in play. I'm thinking of a ball against the outfield wall with runners on or a lazy fly ball and lights go out leading to it not being caught...these are 2 very different situations in that one was offensive advantage and the other defensive advantage at the time of power loss. Going to take a shot here and speculate it would be treated as though the pitch never occurred, buy could also see umpires discretion to determine runners placement or out call on fly ball.
  6. Can Lamar pull of a 5-1 finish in the final 6 games of conference? They couldn't ask for a better opportunity as they face the bottom 2 teams. If they can pull off what is still likely a long shot.....12-12 conference record. They battled a decent HCU squad and pulled a miracle off in game 3 of the series this past weekend.
  7. 75,600 minutes would work out to to approximately 15000 minutes for each day of the week over a 36 week schedule (six 6 week sessions). That would mean 15000 over 36 weeks would have to be absorbed into the other 4 days over that time period. That works out to over 1.5 hours a day added. There must be something I missing. Does anyone know the average time added each day at places such as Devers that do this year round? If I'm not mistaken some schools are doing this some weeks and not others. While putting this essentially useless diatribe together I found an article about a one school day being 28 minutes longer. They extended the school year by 3 weeks as well to capture those extra minutes. That goes back to 89Falcon pointing out the loss of some breaks during the school year as a way to get the time covered.
  8. I fully understand about practice. I am wondering about off-season. Are schools limited to only the athletic period? I know there are loads of unethical ways around (claiming in paper everyone is a track athlete, power lifter, etc). I actually teach a college course where I get into UIL rules. I simply did not work in public schools when the 4 day week came into play and I'm curious about some of the inner workings of such. Football player only, not in other sports. Can an off season workout session be run on a Friday for said kid?
  9. If you are accurate about a lengthened school day of only 20 minutes, I would be on board. However, based on an instructional calendar that involves 75,600 minutes of instruction per year, I would be intrigued as to how schools aren't lengthening school days dramatically. Maybe it has to do with how extracurricular based classes and others that aren't part of the hour requirement.... then I stand corrected. This leads me to a question. Can a school on a 4 day week run an "athletic period" on the 1 off day each week? Having worked in an inner city school, I would hate to work the logistics of getting all the athletes to school on Friday game day when so few have personal transportation. Just interesting things that this type of scheduling would bring about. It seems more small town schools are moving to this model. Having an 0-7 or 0-8 team at a 2A or 3A school that has no Friday classes could lead to some interesting scenarios on how many kids decide week 8 or 9 or 10 or 11 fishing/hunting trips become more important than football.
  10. 15-18 years old with massive amounts of free time is scary for coaches. Baby sitting them all day in a field house to keep them from doing something foolish isn't fun either. Lengthening school days and then having later practices on Monday-Wednesday has to stink. Give me a straight teaching job an a 4 day schedule, heck yeah! Coaching duties with it on a 4 day schedule could be a nightmare.
  11. 10-0 in 8. LU hitting line drives today and not loads of lazy fly balls. Ellis and Hail combine on a 5 hit shut out.
  12. Nice win is correct. Bats need to come around in conference play. Conference ranks 17th out of 31 of utilizing Boyd'sworld Interactive Strength Rating.
  13. Lamar stops the "bleeding." Wins finale 6-1. 5-7 in conference play.
  14. Very early in conference especially for teams that have already had the bye/off week....with that said UIW and HCU are about to be sitting 1-2 in conference if HCU can hold a 8 run lead in the 9th (not a given based on their season) against Northwestern State. UIW and HCU were picked at the bottom of conference. McNeese, SELA and LU are presently 6, 8 and 9. These 3 schools were picked 1, 2 and 3. What a sport.
  15. LU falls apart tonight. Drop it 9-7. Gave up 6 in the 8th.
  16. Johnny "whole staff " in a week day game is beyond common. Lamar must win the conference tournament to get to the post season at this point. Thus, why not utilize multiple arms in a weekday game is how most if not all coaches would view it. Definitely not a good idea to extend one of your top arms prior to a weekend conference series. I would enjoy a good conversation about baseball, but if an overwhelming majority of your posts are negative you can have this portion of the forum.
  17. 9-7 winner in game 2. Game 3 coming up.
  18. Let's play 2. Double header today starting at 2. Need to scratch out at least 1.
  19. [Hidden Content] Presently Lamar is hitting 30 points below last year's total with many of the same position players. Hopefully several can get on a hot streak soon. Pitching staff is loaded with new faces.
  20. The record of late has been underwhelming and yes 11 hits is more than a team wants to give up but pitching around that and giving up 3 earned should have led to a win. The pitching is dramatically better than last year. It simply is.
  21. Today's game had 3 earned runs. One simply because scoring doesn't allow for an error on a double play attempt. The batter that eventually scored the 1st run of the game reached only due to an errant throw. Several seeing eye ground balls. The pitching was more than adequate today. The position players for Lamar would likely tell you today's loss was in their hands not the pitchers. No matter what one may think of the pitching staff, today's game should have been won and the hitters/position players are surely still upset with their performance at the plate.
  22. 37 innings of baseball and 20 runs is quite decent. That's an average of 3.78 runs per nine. That's actually top notch. I'll take that horrible pitching squad and compete with them any day. The offense was lacking this weekend, but it's baseball.
  23. Drop the finale 4-2. Not much offense today.
