1.
Vidor kids never won a WRS award. The media pissed on the credibility of the WRS award to create a feel good story. A slap in the face to that super WOS defense and powerhouse Nederland offense. The WRS award is for kids with the potential to be the next Jamal Charles or Earl Thomas. What's next? A High Island kid wins because daddy caught a fish at the beach. This is not this kids fault, the media should find the nearest dumpster and jump in. They ruined a tradition.
I always thought that the WRS award was for the best high school player that represents the ideals of Coach Willie Ray Smith of excellent play, hard work, dedication, and leadership, not  just for the player who has the most college offers or the best stats.  If that is the case, there doesn't need to be a media vote, just plug the numbers into a spreadsheet and pop out the winners. Also, I did not realize that the WRS award was for the players with the greatest potential to play in the NFL. Which area high school football player did you see play last fall with the "potential to be the next Jamaal Charles or Earl Thomas"?
 2. I disagree that there has been no improvement in three years.  Lamar has improved, although not by a great margin. Lamar needs consistency by playing well for two halves.  In several of the games this season, Lamar played either a good first half or a good second half.  For example, Lamar played pretty well in the first half against Sam Houston but let the game get away in the second half.  They played poorly in the first half against Central Ark but outscored them in the second half. The areas that Lamar must improve are consistency, special teams, and cut down on the turnovers. Lamar has a great opportunity to end the season on a positive note by beating McNeese.

What's sad is that Nederland kids are already going to be viewed as guilty by the general public even if they didn't do it. I would bet my life that it wasn't anyone on the team though. And BigRed, the line in my opinion would probably be -3 or -4 for Nederland. Strength of schedule being the primary reason for adding the extra couple of points. O/U estimate would probably be 38.
I'm sorry GoDogs I couldn't resist on a few posts back you posted it was probably someone from Vidor or the Coaching staff..and now you post your not accusing......I don't even know what to say to that.
If you read my post I said that I have a suspicion this was not done by Nederland. A suspicion and an accusation are different to me. Maybe I'm wrong on the definitions of each. Sorry if I mis-worded things.
Whoever did this need some of that Old Time Kountze cheerleaders' religion.

Refs are terrible.  They have to stop and talk to everyone after every play.
The calls made by the refs were not necessarily bad, but it was excrutiating after almost every flag, the refs huddled up with lots of talking and pointing, then run over to the EC coach to explain the call, then run over to give the HF coach an explanation, then run to huddle up again with more pointing before finally marking off the penalty or waving off the flag.  By the way, I use the word "run" very loosely. I wondered if there were some NFL officials in attendance scouting for replacements for the replacement refs.
Me too...where is the petition Sassy Scissors, Green Acres Grocery, Fannett Drive In, Pine Tree Lodge (Sat. night with the Port Arthur Playboys), the Halloween Haunted House on 365 (a ghost told me is opening on Friday April 13th.... :o :o :o)?

Which leads to another beef of mine. Go to Dayton and win then you get to travel to NC and play them in a 'home' game while NC gets to hang round their home court for 3 days and get ready. Why not make LU  or Vermont wear ankle weights during the game too. Hey I am the eternal optimist, stay till the bitter end, hope against hope kind of guy. It will be a historical win comparable to the shot by Laetner?sp and the win by NC state if they(LU or Vt.) beat NC.
Wow!!! Travel costs more than $125,000??  Is BISD scheduling this trip???
 8.
What a slap in the face to Lamar.
I don't think Lamar or Pat Knight look at a first round game as a slap to the face.  The Southland Conference gets $250,000 for a first round game.  If Lamar beats Vermont and plays NC in a second round game, the Southland gets another $250,000 which they split with Lamar.  So if Lamar beats Vermont, they will get $125,000 that they would not have gotten as a 14 or 15 one and done seed.
 9. It appears that Lamar is properly slotted based upon the RPI's of the projected 14 and 15 seeds that range from 58 (Belmont 14 seed) to 92 (Lehigh 15 seed).  The only exception is Detroit whose RPI is 125 and a 15 seed.  Lamar's RPI is 114.
 10. Lamar and Pat Knight are getting all kinds of love on ESPN.  6 - 0 after the "Rant", first trip to the Big Dance since 2000,  and proud Pappa Bobby said he's been in basketball for almost 50 years and today is his proudest moment!
 11.
This topic was brought up from the State Tourney games today wich were lower classifications.  We called them 'not real'.  Thoughts?
"Yates '6"7 senior Clyde Santee finished the game with just 8 points going 1 for 16 from the field. Grayford's Zack Tabor had a game and tournament high 43 points. Zack was 19-23 from the free throw line and also grabbed 15 rebounds." Now which one of these were playing "Real" basketball???

Good luck in your first play-off run since 2000!
I keep reading that HF boys basketball have not made the playoffs since 2000.  However, I recall that they made the playoffs in 2002, Jeff Kenner's last year as HF coach.  I remember they won two games then lost to Kountze.  Am I dreaming this?
