1. This public school would make the Jack Yates Communications All-Stars look very ordinary.
2. This is a pretty good read about the top ranked team in the country. Not your typical national power.  They're from a public school in Utah.  ]
3. Where is DickieV to explain to us why the best of inner city Houston can't dominate a little ole East Texas town?  Surely he can explain this.
4. Great job Montana.  He's had a remarkable HS career.  I just hope he gets the opportunity to play at the next level.  Awesome person too.
5.

Great goals!!! I wonder what the goals are for some of our local teams?
I'm guessing it's different amongst MOST schools. Some have goals of making the playoffs, where others have goals of a State Championship. I doubt any have hopes of a Nat'l Championship.
One that is a mythical national championship. ;) ::) A "championship" based off a newspapers poll and no championship game. ::)
U mean like the college football champions crowned by the BCS?
6. Late 80s from HF. Felmon Malveaux (sp?). Went to Michigan on scholarship.
7. Lol guess thats why Png and Ned have more championships, wins, playoff appearances, and on and on, than big bad PA. Port Arthur always has more college talent than mid county schools, and they always do less with more. Maybe they just have less heart, or toughness, or teamwork, or coaching (not true). You pick one.
8. Who did Tyson ever beat who was worth a darn?  Holyfield didn't see to have a problem with him.
9. I don't say this often, but I agree with dickiev. At least 2 yrs of college would be beneficial to all involved. Nba gets a more polished and physically developed player, colleges have more continuity and better teams, and fans can develop a sense of identity with the college players. I would love it to be 3 yrs like college football, but that is a pipe dream. As it is now, one and dones go to class one semester then don't even attempt to go to class in the spring because they know they're going pro.
10. Ned has too much returning for the hawks.
11. Article says he is a likely late 2nd round pick or free agent.  2nd round money isn't guaranteed either.  I hope it works out well for him.  Personally, I think he should go higher than late 2nd.  He can play.
12.
Like I said him calling his players out was good but some of the things he said should have stayed in the locker room. He was complaining like they were not even in the conference tourney. They had 18 wins when he went off like that to the public. Those kids would have won without him because  they had that much talent. But now since the seniors are gone and 3 out of the 6 seniors he was talking about have a chance to play pro ball somewhere will always be known for the college basketball players on drugs and that will coast them money overseas and scared to be touched by sports agents because of what they coach said on national television about them. Like I said him ranting about things he could of easily handled in the locker room or office had to be brought out in public because he didn't know what else to do. A father with no control over his sons running to a talk show.
Here's the deal.  If you are on drugs, that is a YOU problem.  It's not the coach's fault if you get called out on it.  They're lucky no one went to the police and they got kicked out of school.  I don't feel sorry for college students on full scholarship that risk all they have going to take ILLEGAL drugs for recreation.  They have to be smarter.
13. J'covan has improved every year at Texas.  He definitely has NBA skills.  He can score, shoot, great passer, and handles very well with both hands.  He has a very high basketball IQ.  He is ready in my opinion.  And this is from a guy who didn't think he would last this long at Texas.  He has really matured mentally and physically. Congrats J'covan.  Way to prove a lot of people wrong.
14. Yes true magnet schools are supposed to participate in the classification of the highest enrollment school within their isd.  It's word for word from the UIL guidelines posted earlier in this thread. I think Yates, central, and other magnet schools skirt this by claiming they are not a true magnet school as defined by the UIL. The UIL states that ALL students must participate within the magnet program to be considered a magnet school. This is a nice little loophole that keeps them from having to participate in 5A.
15. From UIL: Multiple High School Districts with schools in more than one conference, one of which is a magnet school. A multiple high school district with schools in more than one conference, one of which is a magnet school, shall have the magnet school placed in the same conference as the high school in that school district with the largest enrollment. So tell me how Yates, and other "magnet" schools, somehow skirt this rule?  Just curious.
16. So Yates is not a magnet school?
17. Here's the real question. How good would Yates be without the "magnet" status?
18.
Question? How can such an incident be controlled for the future? We all have comments after the fact. The teams participated in what is common in a sportsmanlike manner to shake hands at the end of the game. Its football, you have spats during the games but you still line up to shake hands. So what do you do,use a rope?
No, you use self-restraint and good sportsmanship. If you can't do that, then you shouldn't be allowed to participate.
19. You are right. Congrats Orangefield and Coach Wrinkle.
20. Dickie V loves to throw in Ozen's name like their anything special this yr. maybe he just reliving his glory days riding Coach Boutee's coattails.
21.
Coach Jacks didn't get a tech his assistant did for getting up off the bench and clapping, only one coach is allowed up. It was a dumb call though. The game shouldn't necessarily be judged by the final score it was within single digits most of the game an Vidor got ahead a few times, basically the problem is depth on the bench, Dayton simply had more depth and the Vidor girls got tired there in the fourth.
Coaches are allowed to stand up for spontaneous reaction to a good play. If that was what the tech was for that is terrible and contrary to what the rule book states.
22. Vidor wins 57 to 56 in overtime.  Chase Carter hit a 3 pointer with 8 seconds left to win it.  Grant Allen had 19 pts for Vidor.
23. Foreveradog, it is my understanding that students can only move around within their school district, in this case BISD.  This does not apply to outside the district transfers.
24. Well if it's not for athletic reasons, then why the move now?  Seems to me as his sons begin their high school career, now is the perfect time to move to a basketball rich school.
25. All those kids suiting up for HF next year?  If so, let me be the first to say congrats on the district championship.
