Anyone can google scripture and copy/paste it here. Does not show your knowledge, esp. understanding, of the Bible. You seem very narrow-minded and almost cult-like in your beliefs. Like I stated earlier, I think you could gain a greater understanding and perspective by studying the history of, and canonization, the Old and New Testaments (and also the various versions). But to each his own.

Your understanding of the Bible is not very good to put it nicely. I challenge that priests who spend their entire lives dedicated to biblical studies have a must better understanding than you. And this is your quote to refute that????

I have a problem with a Church of Christ (Christian) telling a whole denomination (ie. Catholics) that they are not going to Heaven because they don't worship the right way. You mean to tell me that your understanding & "translation" of the Bible is greater than a Catholic priest who has went to seminary & dedicated his whole life to Bible studies? LOL..you are making you own interpretations about scripture. I've never heard a Catholic priest talk about the tectonic plates in his preachings. You are making leaps that simply aren't there. Now what denomination do you practice and believe to be true? And would you consider your views to be that of Fundamentalists Christians (ie. ierrancy of scripture)?

The West certainly has advanced socially, more than say some Middle Eastern or some African countries, on topics such as women's rights. But this is getting away from the original topic of this thread. So the best translation of the Old and New Testaments, the Koran, and the Torah are the most literal ones. Correct?

Translations are literally word for word. Your interpretation of pillars in the Bible into tectonic plates is most certainly NOT a literal translation. It is a huge stretch to make that interpretation.

Talk about a misinterpretation of MY words. I don't care what you believe in, as long as it does not affect me, or infringe upon my rights. Our culture has advanced to the point where we have a much higher moral code than certain other parts of the world. But that is not necessarily based in the Old Testament. You are going off on a tangent now.

Again, you should do more reading on the history of the Bible, since you have already mastered it's interpretation...I mean "translation". And again, how is your "translation" right, and say the Greek Orthodox Christians (or any other denomination) wrong?

I don't care what you believe in. It's your right to believe as you choose in our free country. I am just here to raise questions. Why are some gospels not included in the Bible? Nostics, etc? Why do you choose some scripture as literal and others as interpretive? Why is your interpretation better than say Omish or Mennonites? All valid questions with no real answers.

Never said I was atheist or agnostic. But as with all versions of religious texts, your interpretations and mine may be vastly different. I think you should read up more on the actual history of the Hebrew Bible, and how it was constructed into its modern version. You seem to want to pick & choose to take some scriptures as literal and others as interpretive.

So we should take the Bible literally? Taken literally, the Bible says the earth is flat, it has pillars, and will not be moved (Ps 93:1, Ps 96:10, 1 Sam 2:8, Job 9:6). It says that great sea monsters are set to guard the edge of the sea (Job 41, Ps 104:26). Thoughts?

Every religious group is just as strong in their beliefs as you are Comesneil. If you sat down in a room with an Orthodox Jew, or an Omish person, they would argue their version of the Bible is the correct one. And I think it is wrong, and can't be scientifically proven, to say that one version is more right than another.

So which form of Christianity is the correct one jv_coach or comesneilfan??? I am sure Jehovah's Witness believe as firmly in their views, as Mormons or Southern Baptist's believe in their particular versions. Which is no different than a Jew or Muslim's faith in their form of religion. They more than likely grew up that way, or were around that particular religion, and thus formed their beliefs in their savior.
