Lumberton 11, Ozen 1 It didn't hit anyone until after the game, but the statistics checked out. Tyler Erickson threw a no-hitter. The McNeese State signee had seven strikeouts en route to Lumberton's 11-1 win against Ozen in five innings. Ozen's lone run came when Erickson walked a batter, who later scored on an error. "To be honest with you, he was struggling with his control and we were concerned about fixing his mechanics," said Lumberton baseball coach Shane Reyenga. "We really didn't realize that he had a no-hitter until after the game. We started talking about it and then the kids did too. We went through the book and realized that he pulled it off." Erickson's no-hitter is the third one to occur in District 20-4A this season. The other two no-hitters belonged to Nederland ace and Texas commit Kirby Bellow. Bellow threw no hitters against Central and Vidor. Last Friday, he threw a one-hitter in Nederland's 11-0 win against Little Cypress-Mauriceville. Lumberton's district record improves to 4-7 and is sixth in district. Ozen's district mark is 1-10 and it lies in seventh place. Around the bases: West Brook's quest for the playoffs took a bit of a blow following a 5-0 loss to Baytown Sterling. The loss puts West Brook with a 6-5 district record, which leaves West Brook in fourth place after it began Tuesday in a tie for second with Sterling and Lee; Nederland continued its grip on first place in 20-4A with a 16-0 victory over Central; Hamshire-Fannett got its first 21-3A win with a 7-5 victory over West Orange-Stark; 21-3A leaders Orangefield scored 15 runs in the fourth for a 18-2 win over Hardin-Jefferson. -
I think it is cool that Beaumont is building a Athletic complex. Stupid that they are naming it after the superintendent (Over paid). There is a lot more deserving names in Beaumont than his. I was a football afficial for 10 years. Seen the good and bad times for football in the Beaumont area. Sorry guys but you are fair weather fans. If your teams are bad, no one shows up at the games. I have seen it many times. Same with Lamar University. Good baseball teams every year and maybe 150 people show up at their games. Lets not even go there with the professional teams. Also lets not even go there with girl sports. Pretty much no support at all except from the parents who have a kid playing. Beaumont has done a good job of trying to bring business into the city. Ford Center was a good ideal. Crocket Street was a good ideal. Without support, they may fade into the sunset. Say what you want about PNG but they pack the house good or bad teams. I am not from PNG by the way. Nederland does a good job also and so does Orangefield. Orangefield is probably the best because their fans show up in every sport. Boys and girls and we have been bad in football for a while. Not being a homer just have seen it first hand. I hope Beaumont steps up to the plate, if not it will turn into Port Arthur eventually. I won't see it in my time. Beaumont has taken the steps Port Arthur did not. Hopefully Beaumont will thrive forever. Naming the complex after the superintendent was not one of BISD's better moves IMO.
Good post!
I live not very far where that stadium is! I understand that high school football is a way of life in this state but do they need similar college/pro amenities?
Maybe one day we'll have more stadiums like this here in SE Texas and get caught up with the times.
