  2. Brannons, Fulk head 20-4A meet Tom Halliburton The Port Arthur News BEAUMONT — BEAUMONT -- A'Lexus Brannon will keep her area 4A district friends from forgetting her at least the next three track and field seasons.   The nation's No. 1-ranked high school performer in the girls long jump and girls triple jump, Brannon produced the most expected victories Monday as the District 20-4A track and field championships opened under delightful conditions at West Brook.   To borrow one of Tina Turner's hotter numbers, A'Lexus is simply the best. The Beaumont Ozen senior is bound for Longhorn Land on a track scholarship. Her conditioning is the best it's been in her high school career.   Adding to her lengthy list of credentials, the older Brannon now is the sole owner of two district records, rather than one.   With temperatures flirting with 80 degrees and tempting muscle-bound athletes to be more loose and flexible than ever, the Port Arthur native proceeded to soar an area-best 19-10.25 to win the long jump. That's almost five inches farther than her area-best 19-5.5 and it's a new district record by 4.25 inches.   The old mark -- 19-6 -- belonged to one of the town's most-gifted girls ever, Thomas Jefferson's Renitta Woods in 2001.   "I came out strong today," Brannon said. "I'm there. There's a slight hamstring strain but it's not stopping me from running or jumping any."   It did affect how many jumps A'Lexus would take. The Beaumont senior took one hop, step and jump in the triple jump and that was it.   A'Lexus shattered her own district triple jump record by almost six inches, soaring a magnificent 40-5. She established the triple jump district mark two years ago at 39-11.25 and bettered that amount by 5.75 inches.   Brannon's long jump was one of five new area-best performances and one of two new area 4A district records.   Lumberton's Leslie Beard cleared 11-7 to win the pole vault -- one inch higher than her own previous area best (11-6) and two feet four inches higher than the district mark of 9-3 set by Nederland's Fawn Turk four years ago.   Nederland junior Regan Richard slightly improved her area-best shot put in 2010 to 38-0 from 37-9.75, successfully defending her district title in the event.   Monday's two new area bests in the boys division belonged to the same guy. Beaumont Central's Brennan Jackson topped Nederland's Chris Cunningham to win the triple jump in 45-5.25. Jackson also won the long jump in 22-6, surpassing Port Arthur Memorial's Jeylin Reed at 22-3.5.   The Memorial leaper will have the chance to answer back today when the Titans will compete in Galena Park at the District 21-5A championships.   With A'Lexus and younger sister Dominique, Ozen jumped ahead 69-38 in the girls point lead. The boys count is much tighter with Central at 52 and Nederland 49 after seven events.   The Bulldogs' strongest points occurred in the 3,200-meter run with a 1-2-3 finish from Trent Fulk, Trevor Martin and Domingo Flores. Fulk ran a 10:25.69 to win by 13 seconds. His best-ever is 10:11. That's why it's asking a lot for Trent to dip under 10 in two weeks at Huntsville.   "I'm pretty close," Fulk said. "I'll be ready. I want to try to break 10 at regionals."   The runners need to be ready by Thursday for the 20-4A running finals at 5 p.m. District 20-4A championships   BEAUMONT -- Here are Monday's final results and top prelim qualifiers from the District 20-4A track and field championships held at Alex Durley Stadium.   Top three places advance to regionals   GIRLS DIVISION   Discus -- 1.
