  2. UIL awards crown to Cinco Ranch Ineligibility costs Highland Park wrestling title Highland Park and Cinco Ranch might have tied for the University Interscholastic League state wrestling team title Saturday, but a ruling has handed the trophy to Cinco Ranch. On Monday, Highland Park officials contacted the UIL office in Austin to report an academically ineligible athlete had competed at the state wrestling tournament, said UIL athletic coordinator Mark Cousins, who was the wrestling tournament director. "Highland Park officials informed us Monday afternoon and this necessitated a change in the team scoring," Cousins said. "It took us until late Wednesday or Thursday morning to update the team scoring. It took awhile to deduct the scores properly." Cinco Ranch coach Bill Dushane, who is friends with Highland Park coach Tim Marzuola, said his squad members know they are champions. "We were already state champions, so we are not celebrating any more or differently. I feel bad for my friend, Tim Marzuola," Dushane said. "I have no doubt it was an oversight on his part. In Katy, it is drilled into us how we need to check and double check these kids' grades." With only five wrestlers, Highland Park had earned 78.5 points to tie the Cougars before the UIL ruling. It would have been the Scots' six state championship in nine years of UIL competition under Marzuola, who is retiring this year. With the updated team scores, Cinco Ranch (78.5 points), which became the only team to win a state wrestling championship south of the Dallas area, remains atop the list. Canyon Randall (73) slides into second place ahead of Highland Park (64.5). Cy-Fair (63) and Allen 61.5 round out the top five.
  3. LAKE SAM RAYBURN AND TOLEDO BEND Bill Fondren, Tejas Guide Service + Professional Guide + Licensed and Insured Ph.409-698-3491 + Cell 409-381-1397 + Sam Rayburn & Toledo Bend + email [email protected] really the month to remember, with record setting cold temperatures, high water, high winds and some of our local guys doing real well in some bass tournaments. Congratulations to Stephen Johnston for his big win in the FLW Stren tournament. Folks, this is a real class tournament from the FLW. If you have never attended a tournament or any other function at the Umphrey Family Pavilion you should. It's a place to be proud of. Let's fish! Bass are on beds in shallow water. You can catch them on jigs- lizards and plastic whatever. Be patient and watch for movement in the shallow water. A good pair of polarized glasses are the most important thing you can have Look for light spots on the bottom then look for the fish. Fish slow and hold on. When the spawn winds down spinner baits and jerk baits will work well. Texas rigged worms and lizards in the bush will catch a lot of bass. White bass have been on their best bite this year. If you all have not tried the Big Whites you have missed out. We still have a few openings this month so give us a call. Crappie are slow but will be moving up real soon and the grass will be hot. Some are on the deeper brush piles. The Stanley wedge tails and live minnows are the best
