  4. Basketball player from Fort Bend collapses, dies HILLSBORO — A Grayson County College basketball player and former standout at Fort Bend's Bush High School died Wednesday night after collapsing during halftime of his team's game, police said. Mike Ndiribe, 18, a 6-8, 210-pound freshman post, collapsed in a locker room during his team's game at Hill College, said Hillsboro police Cpl. Kyle Cox. An ambulance took Ndiribe to Hill Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead less than an hour later, Cox said. A cause of death was not released. "We obviously extend sympathy to his family," said Grayson County College athletic director Theresa Barnett. "He was a part of our family. This is going to be very tough over the next few weeks and months for our family." The game was suspended at halftime.

  17. Dad flings son's opponent out of wrestling ring AURORA, Ill. -- A father bounded into a youth wrestling match, picked up his son's winning opponent and launched him out of the ring, an episode caught on a home video. After tossing the 11-year-old boy into the air Sunday, the angry father headed toward the cameraman, the father of the airborne boy. "I was just wrestling, then the guy throws me," the boy, Nick Nasenbeny of suburban Aurora, told WMAQ-TV in Chicago. It was not known if the boy was injured. Ray Hoffman, the father in the video and a part-time wrestling coach, told the television station he regrets his behavior and feels embarrassed. He said his son's shoulder was injured. Hoffman also said he will no longer be allowed to coach. Dean Bogess, a wrestling coach who attended the meet, said Nick was using a legal move to pin his opponent and that the referee was about to stop the match when Hoffman intervened. "The match was being stopped. He had blown his whistle already," Bogess said. Nick's father, Dan Nasenbeny, said he was stunned by Hoffman's actions. "I mean, there is a lot of different ways to stop a match. Not to pick up my son and launch him 5 feet, 10 feet in the air," Nasenbeny said. Hoffman did not return messages left by The Associated Press.
  18. Feb 15, 11:21 AM EST Knight scolded for criticizing officials LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) -- Texas Tech coach Bob Knight was issued a public reprimand by the Big 12 Conference for his comments about officiating in a double-overtime loss at Oklahoma State. After Saturday's 93-91 defeat, Knight said a call on a charge was "horrendous" and "maybe as bad a call as I've ever seen." Knight's statement violated the Big 12's principle and standards of sportsmanship, which prohibit coaches from commenting critically in public about officials, the conference said. The rule "goes for coaches, players, administrators, everyone," Big 12 spokesman Rob Carolla said Thursday. Knight had no comment on the reprimand, Tech spokesman Randy Farley said. Carolla said the conference rarely issues public reprimands during the season. The reprimand was issued Wednesday.
