  3. Southlake Carroll are set to announce former assistant Hal Wasson to replace Todd Dodge at a school board/news conference at 5 p.m. Monday. Wasson has been considered a front runner since Dodge left for North Texas following SCL winning its fourth Class 5A state title in five years. Wasson and Denton Ryan coach Joey Florence were the leading candidates and Florence opted not to apply. Wasson, 50, was an SLC assistant in '01 and '02 when his sone Chase was the Dragons' quarterback. He left to become head coach at Keller Fossil Ridge in '03

LITTLE CYPRESS — The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears were at the top of their game Friday night at The Bear Cave as they toppled the second-place Dayton Broncos 75-58 in District 22-4A action. The Bears (14-13, 4-5) dominated the Broncos (16-7, 7-2) in the second half by going on a 42-24 tear after Dayton held a 34-33 cushion at the half. Bear post Kevin Cooper roughed up the Broncos inside, notching a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds. The Bears also received two more double-double performances with Drew Bean and Justin Kinsley each tallying 11 points and snaring 10 boards apiece. C.J. Champine also got in the scoring run, pumping in 15 points. Anthony Williams scored a game-high 25 points for the Broncos. The Bears look to carry the surge over into Tuesday night when they visit Nederland.

Deweyville girls 49, Anahuac 46 DEWEYVILLE — The Deweyville Lady Pirates continue to find ways to nab close victories as they pulled out a 49-46 overtime home victory against the Anahuac Lady Panthers Friday night in District 24-2A play in Pirate Gym. Senior Tera Gibson powered the Lady Pirates (12-12, 6-4) with a double-double, scoring 15 points while grabbing 11 rebounds. Krista Goleman had a team-high 16 points to pace the offense while Amanda Vincent snared eight rebounds and Emily Carter collected seven. Angel Hopkins led Anahuac with a game-high 23 points while teammate Diana Hinson added 14. The Lady Pirates face a pivotal road game Tuesday when they visit Buna.
