Suspensions total 47 games from Knicks-Nuggets fight NEW YORK -- The Denver Nuggets were the bigger losers Monday after the NBA handed out penalties in the fight that broke out near the end of Saturday night's game against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. Denver's Carmelo Anthony, the NBA's leading scorer, was suspended 15 games for sucker-punching the Knicks' Mardy Collins. Denver teammate J.R. Smith and New York's Nate Robinson also received the stiffest of penalties issued by the league -- 10-game suspensions. But there was no separate penalty for Knicks coach Isiah Thomas, who had warned Anthony not to go into the lane before the mayhem started Saturday night. Both franchises were fined $500,000. "It is our obligation to take the strongest possible steps to avoid such failures in the future and to make a statement to all who follow the game of basketball that we understand our obligations and take them seriously," NBA commissioner David Stern said in a statement. Collins, whose hard foul of Smith was the flashpoint for the fight, was suspended for six games. Knicks forward Jared Jeffries was suspended for four games, and New York's Jerome James and Denver's Nene were hit with one-game penalties for leaving their respective benches during an on-court altercation.

Liberty Hill vs. Celina For 3A D2 Title

I think LH wins as well. Celina just moved up from 2A. They haven't had the tough road like Region 3 and 4 has had. -
De La Salle loses in California championship

Not as easy at Southlake makes it look: De La Salle loses in California championship Canyon upsets No. 1 De La Salle 27-13 Updated 12/17/2006 CARSON, Calif. (AP) — Ben Longshore ran for two touchdowns and passed for a third to lead Canyon of Canyon Country to a 27-13 upset of De La Salle of Concord Saturday night in the California Interscholastic Federation's Division I championship game. Longshore completed 12 of 24 passes with three interceptions for 164 yards. J.J. DiLuigi added 138 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries as the Cowboys (12-2) gave the Spartans (13-1) their first loss of the year. DiLuigi, a senior who will attend Brigham Young, finished the season with 2,159 yards and 34 touchdowns. De La Salle's leading rushers, Tim Maupin and Tillman Pugh, were stifled. Maupin, who amassed 1,309 yards going into the game, finished with 66 yards in 11 carries. Pugh had 46 yards on 12 carries after rushing for 1,000 yards this year. Canyon built a 20-7 halftime lead on Longshore's 1-yard scoring run, his 30-yard touchdown pass to Kenny Suber and DiLuigi's 1-yard run. After De La Salle narrowed the deficit to 20-13 on Maupin's 59-yard scoring option pass to John Hendershott, the Spartans had chances to exploit two turnovers. But six plays after Hendershott's interception with 3:58 left in the third quarter, Canyon's Mike Loucks tackled Ryan Nastor for a 5-yard loss on fourth-and-inches at the Cowboys' 5-yard line. -
