  1. “That Alvis kid really makes them go,†said Hooks. “They took advantage of some opportunities we gave them and they cashed in.†Mustang junior quarterback Reggie Garrett completed 12-of-26 passes for 159 yards and was picked off three times.
  2. Jasper D was good but not out of this world. That has nothing to do with the continued dropped pass, Penalties, Snaps over the QB's head.
  3. Hopefully that will get better soon!!!
  4. 3 over turned calls, how many times do you see that in a game ??? ???
  5. Defense is fine, and the Offense hopefully will get going. Just have to start catching passes and cut down on the Penalties. Had 3 or 4 False starts early in this game.
  6. Coop is here. It isn't the playcalling!!!!! Passes are being thrown in the middle of the field but being dropped. Things will not get any better until passes or caught and Penalties are cut WAY down.

  16. Pirates looking to nab win in Pineland Van Wade The Orange Leader PINELAND — Looking to put together four complete quarters, the Deweyville Pirates look to slow down a gritty West Sabine team in Pineland tonight. The Pirates are coming off a tough 40-20 defeat at the hands of Hemphill last week with the game being much closer than the final outcome. “I was really proud of the kids for hanging in there after being down 20-0 at one point,†said Pirate head coach Russell McDaniel. “The kids kept chipping away and chipping away and got towithin 28-20 but we ran out of gas a little in the fourth period.†The Pirates got a nice effort from tailback Trey Craft, who rushed for 93 yards on 11 carries as Deweybville was without leading rusher Keeton Addison (254 yards, three TDs), who is out with an ankle injury and may or may not play tonight. Tight end Woody Woodall had his best game in a Pirate uniform, catching five passes for 41 yards. Eric Avila had three grabs for 28 yards. The Tigers fell to Garrison 21-6 last week. They have also fell to Hemphill as well (31-24) and defeated Colmesneil 44-6 to open the season. “They’re one of those tough and scrappy teams,†said McDaniel. “They go out and execute well. They really played hard in their losses to both Garrison and Hemphill. It’s going to be a good test for our kids.†The Tigers finished 3-6, 2-4 in District 19-1A last year. They are led by speedy tailback Chris Parks, who ran for 880 yards last season along with bruising fullback Chris Williams along with quarterback DeVonte Thomas. “We have several areas we want to improve on this week,†said McDaniel. “Next week, Anahuac rolls into our place to start up district play. You really want to iron out a few things in that last non-district game and we hope to do that. We’re looking at four full quarters of good play, we’ve been a little inconsistent there.â€
  17. Bears facing speedy Indians Van Wade The Orange Leader CLEVELAND — Now that the talk of the 16-game losing streak are behind them, the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears look to continue their winning ways tonight with a tough road trip to Cleveland to face the Indians. The Bears (1-1) are coming off a 16-0 shutout of Bridge City while the Indians (3-0) dumped Huntington 45-2 last week. “The win last week was a great triumph for the kids,†said LC-M coach Randy Crouch. “It’s something they’ve been chasing ever since that first practice. Monday was about getting them back down to earth. It’s all about the next game now and we’ve got a tough date with Cleveland.†The Bears were certainly impressive against Bridge City, especially on defense, where they allowed just 130 yards. The Bears managed 219 yards against a solid BC defense with senior tailback Tevvin Jones leading the way with 107 yards and a 27-yard touchdown gallop on 22 carries. Jones has 126 yards on the season. Quarterback Hunter Gonzalez has rushed for 63 yards and two scores and has passed for 196 yards. “Defensively, we got after it pretty good,†said Crouch. “The first five weeks, including the scrimmages, we faced spread offenses. This week, it’s an entirely different game, facing Cleveland’s Wing-T. They run it and they run it well.†The Indians went 10-0 last season before falling to Rockdale in the second round of the playoffs. “They will be a formidable opponent,†said Crouch. “It’s a program that’s been on the rise the last couple years. They’ve always had tremendous athletes, now they’re putting it all together.†The Indians have also defeated Hardin-Jefferson (35-7) and Bryan Rudder (25-6). Quarterback Jamaul Ross guides the offense and has rushed for 90 yards and has passed for 86 more as he spends most of his time handing off to backs Freddie Carter, Troy Richardson and Marcus Mallett. Carter has zipped for 246 yards and five touchdowns on just 24 carries. Richardson has 211 yards and two touchdowns on just 20 totes and Mallett has a touchdown off his 122 yards on 17 carries. “The Wing-T is tricky, especially with all the misdirection,†said Crouch. “We’re going to have to play low to the ground and sniff out what they’re trying to do. The kids, they learning a lot this week, that’s for sure. Our scout team is doing a good job at simulating what Cleveland likes to do.†The Bears open District 20-4A play on the road at Port Neches-Groves next week.
