  1. TROPICAL STORM CHRIS DISCUSSION NUMBER 8 NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL AL032006 1100 AM EDT WED AUG 02 2006 DATA FROM THE SAN JUAN WSR-88D DOPPLER RADAR AND HIGH-RESOLUTION VISIBLE SATELLITE IMAGERY SUGGEST THAT CHRIS IS GRADUALLY BECOMING BETTER ORGANIZED AS IT CONTINUES TOWARD THE WEST-NORTHWEST NEAR 9 KT. INITIAL INTENSITY IS SET AT 55 KT IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LAST RECON-MEASURED FLIGHT-LEVEL WINDS OF 67 KT AND DVORAK T-NUMBERS OF 3.5 FROM BOTH TAFB AND SAB. CIRRUS MOTIONS INDICATE THAT CHRIS CONTINUES TO BE EXPERIENCING SOME NORTHERLY SHEAR. ON THE PREDICTED TRACK...AND BASED ON THE 200 MB WIND FORECAST FROM THE GFS...CHRIS WILL BE IN A COL REGION BETWEEN TWO UPPER-LEVEL CYCLONES DURING THE NEXT FEW DAYS. THIS IS A REASONABLY FAVORABLE UPPER-LEVEL ENVIRONMENT...SO A GRADUAL INCREASE IN STRENGTH IS FORECAST. THE NHC WIND SPEED FORECAST IS SIMILAR TO THE LATEST SHIPS GUIDANCE AND A LITTLE ABOVE THE FSU SUPERENSEMBLE PREDICTION. AS ALWAYS...IT SHOULD BE RECALLED THAT TROPICAL CYCLONE INTENSITY FORECASTS AT 3-5 DAYS HAVE LITTLE SKILL. LATEST CENTER FIXES SUGGEST LITTLE CHANGE IN THE INITIAL HEADING OR SPEED. GLOBAL MODELS INDICATE THAT THE MID/UPPER-LEVEL LOW NEAR THE CENTRAL BAHAMAS WILL MOVE WESTWARD AND SLOWLY WEAKEN OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS...WHILE A RATHER STRONG MID-TROPOSPHERIC RIDGE BUILDS TO THE NORTH OF CHRIS. THIS KIND OF FLOW PATTERN WOULD STEER THE TROPICAL CYCLONE ON A GENERAL WEST-NORTHWESTWARD TRACK. HOWEVER AN EVEN STRONGER RIDGE WOULD LIKELY DRIVE CHRIS WESTWARD. INDEED... THIS IS THE SCENARIO OFFERED BY THE GFDL MODEL WHICH EVEN TURNS THE SYSTEM WEST-SOUTHWESTWARD FOR A WHILE. WHEREAS THE GFDL IS A HIGHLY CREDIBLE MODEL...THE MOST PRUDENT COURSE AT THIS TIME IS TO USE THE CONSENSUS OF ALL OF THE DYNAMICAL MODELS. THIS IS ALSO VERY SIMILAR TO THE PREVIOUS NHC TRACK. 2. Depends on how big it is in size? Right now it is small. We'll see what happens the next few days.
  3. Thermometer pill for football players In the 1980s, NASA developed a wireless thermometer-in-a-pill to keep tabs on the body temperature of astronauts. Now, some American football players are swallowing the pills to protect themselves from potentially-deadly heatstroke. The thermometer pill is part of HQ Inc.'s "Coretemp" line of "miniaturized data recorder(s)." From IEEE Spectrum: Once swallowed, the multivitamin-size pill acts as an internal thermometer, providing continuous readings of a player's body temperature, which can be picked up by a sensor placed against the small of the player's back. Players take the pills a couple of hours before the start of practice, allowing the capsules time to reach an athlete's small intestine, where core body temperature readings accurate to within 0.1 °C can be taken. A year after the (Minnesota Vikings player Korey Stringer died of heatstroke, in 2003), Philadelphia Eagles player Tra Thomas was saved from a similar fate during summer training camp when a radio pill reported that he had a core body temperature of 40.9 °C and trainers pulled him off the field. "He hadn't shown any signs of heat stress," said Derek Boyko, the Eagles' director of football media services. "Who knows if, without the device, the training staff would have known he was in danger before it was too late."
  4. Friday Night Lights: The Series This Fall NBC will debut FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS in a TV series. It's going to be interesting to see how they plan to pull this off. Here is how they are portrying it: "In Dillon, Texas, high school football isn’t just a sport, it’s a way of life. This year, the Dillon Panthers are expected to go all the way. That’s a lot of pressure for Eric Taylor in his first year as head coach. Not to mention, the pressure on the athletes who all have their sights set on college and the NFL. Coach Taylor is ready to mold these boys into champions and encourage them to be better men. Will they rise to the challenge? " ------------ Other than that, I don't know much, but like I read on another board, "I really hope they don't dumb it all down with 90210-like teen angst and stick to the football." It will debut October 3 and will be aired on Tuesday nights at 7 PM. It will be produced by Jason Katims who was part of "My so Called Life" (ughhhh) and "Roswell". Here is the NBC link: [Hidden Content] Here is a link with some vid clips: [Hidden Content] ---------------- What do you think? Will you watch it? Do you think THSF will be portrayed in a postitive or negative manner. Will it even matter? Interesting they are putting it on a NON FOOTBALL NIGHT too. Smart move. No NFL, no NCAA, no HS football on Tuesday nights. ----------------- The series is being filmed in Austin... and is apparently making a pretty good stir: [Hidden Content]
  5. He had a great game no doubt about it. Congrats to him and all the locals that played.
  6. High school football player collapses from heat, dies from espn.com TLANTA -- A 15-year-old high school football player died Tuesday from heat stroke after collapsing one day earlier following an offseason workout. Coroner Stephen Boyle said Tyler L. Davis, a rising junior at Rockdale County High School, was taken to the county hospital before being transferred to Children's Health Care of Atlanta at Egleston, where he died. "He walked off the field on his own power, then collapsed on his way to the locker room," James Ginn, spokesman for the Rockdale County Public Schools, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "That's when they called 911." Rockdale County is in the eastern suburbs of Atlanta. Ginn said the district is investigating the death and the school has canceled all football-related activities "until further notice." Monday's workout session was voluntary because formal football practices do not begin statewide until Wednesday, Ginn said. Rockland County head coach Lee Carter was distraught and said he wasn't doing well when reached on his cellphone by the Journal-Constitution. Carter declined to comment on Tyler's death. The football players lifted weights indoors for about an hour before heading out to the field to perform running and passing drills. Water was available to them throughout the training session, and they were outside with frequent breaks from about 5 p.m. to about 6:45 p.m., he said. After practice, the players returned to the locker room, where the boy collapsed, Ginn said. The school has brought in grief counselors to work with students, faculty and staff, he said. Georgia, like much of the rest of the nation, has been sweltering under blistering heat. Temperatures hovered in the mid-90s throughout the state Monday and Tuesday, with the heat index between 100 and 105 degrees.
  7. Game Summary AUSTIN - Humble's Jerrod Johnson didn't have earth-shattering numbers, but he was more than effective. The Texas A&M signee threw for four touchdowns to lead the South to a 30-20 win over the North in the Texas High School Coaches Association All-Star football game Tuesday night at Royal-Memorial Stadium. Johnson completed 10 of 18 passes for 188 yards and tied an all-star game record with his four touchdown throws. He also rushed 18 times for 41 yards, while wrapping up offensive MVP honors as the South rallied from a third-quarter deficit. "Did we throw the ball?" South coach George Harris of Gregory-Portland asked. "I wonder what the people in Refugio think about that. Jerrod played a great game. He had a great week of practice. He's a coach's son, he loves the game, and he loves the Aggies." The South defense helped limit the North to 206 total yards and forced four turnovers, including an interception, a forced interception, a forced fumble, and a blocked extra point by Austin McCallum's Broderick Marshall, the defensive MVP. "That was the most fun I've had in a long time," said Cuero defensive end J.T. Rudd, who had a number of quarterback pressures despite not being able to blitz. "I think we shut them down. They never really got going or got any momentum. I'm going to remember this for a long time.' Johnson put the South on top to stay with his third touchdown pass, a 27-yarder to San Antonio Madison's Chris Caflisch with 10:55 left in the fourth quarter and completed the scoring with an 11-yard pass to Brenham's Gary Ragston with 7:17 remaining. "This was a great experience," said Shiner's Dylan Hagens, who started at right guard. "I definitely got used to playing with a lot of great people." The South took a 16-7 lead on a 62-yard pass from Johnson to Flour Bluff's Andre McCorkle with 9:54 left in the third quarter. But the North pulled within two points two plays after South punter Hunter Lawrence was tackled on the1-yard line after a bad snap. North quarterback Nathan Tune of Celina scored the touchdown with 6:05 remaining in the third quarter. The North took a 20-16 lead on a 29-yard pass from Tune to Southlake Carroll with 2:26 to go in the third quarter. Neither team had much success moving the ball in the first half. The North managed 78 total yards and the South had 62. The difference was a safety on a bad snap during a North punt attempt that sent the South to the locker room with a 9-7 lead. The North scored on its first possession on a 14-yard pass from Ennis' Clark Harrell to Pflugerville's Antwan Cobb. Miles' George Shamblen kicked the extra point with 6:27 remaining in the first quarter. The South scored on a 25-yard pass from Johnson to Newton's Toddrick Penland. Lawrence added the game-tying extra point with 6:02 left in the second quarter.
  8. I hear you. Still to early to say where? Mid Texas Coast would be my first guess right now.
  9. With the growth of Schools in Texas a 6A shouldn't be far away.
  10. Tuesday, August 1st...one practice, Bobby Carpenter to appear on Sports Talk later today...Cowboys not interested in a Lincoln to help drive their offensive line... 11:28am-Not much to report, other than the Cowboys bringing in veteran offensive lineman Lincoln Kennedy for a possible workout... We'll know more after the Bill Parcells press conference, which is about to start. 11:30am-Bill Parcells Press Conference Notes: *Cowboys will give veteran offensive lineman Lincoln Kennedy a tryout. Kennedy, who has been retired is expected in camp today. Parcells added that despite some reports, he had no interest in signing Adam Meadows *Cowboys signed defensive lineman Jason Davis. *Safety Jason Beriault suffered a concussion, is out for now... *Parcells, while discussing wide receiver Jamaica Rector, said he's been impressed with him so far in camp, and even compared Rector to former Washington receiver Gary Clark (who Parcells admitted gave "me" fits while he was in New York with the Giants"). Parcells also said Rector could even be used as a cornerback "in a pinch". *Parcells, when asked about Flozell Adams demeanor, compared him to the personality of a St. Bernard...and that he's always been so much bigger than everyone else, he's rarely been challenged, especially at the high school and even college level. Parcells said he's glad to have Adams on the field, and the knee is stable. (From our blog comments) "What one question would you like me to ask Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells during his daily press conference on Tuesday?" Rick Lippitz, "I'm not a big sports nut, but I grew up in New Jersey and have great respect for Bill Parcells. I would like to know how he thinks his pass protection will be this season." Parcells..."it's too early to discuss how productive our offensive line will be this season, we've only had a handful of practices...but I like the guys I have, they seem to be very intelligent and they grasp things quickly. I don't have to remind them of things 17-times before the get it. We have a couple of young kids I like a lot (he specifically mentioned Pat McQuistan and Cory Proctor )...but we have a long way to go before knowing our strengths." 1:15pm-Cowboys wide receiver Terry Glenn skipped our scheduled interview, oh well...we'll have DeMarcus Ware instead...not a bad trade-off, huh? 2:00pm-KTBB's Jamie Lent reports Lincoln Kennedy is "not" on the field with the Cowboys, and apparently the Cowboys are not interested in the former NFL lineman. 3:20pm-KTBB's Jamie Lent reports kicker Mike Vanderjagt has missed three of his four field goal attempts this afternoon. He made 24-yarder, but missed from 39-yards, 41-yards, and 44-yards out. Meanwhile, unheralded Shaun Suisham was two-for-two. 5:15pm-We're all headed for Malibu to eat some real seafood...talk to you later.
  11. More playoff teams a problem? Starting this season, four teams from each district in Class 5A will qualify for the playoffs. Though it's a move some say cheapens the postseason, UIL executive director Bill Farney issued a suggestion: Take a look around. In the state of Texas, 245 teams play on the 5A level. That's more than 27 other states have in all classes combined. Breithaupt, for his part, remembered 1982, the first year two teams were allowed from each district. That year, West Brook slipped into the postseason through the back door. A few weeks later, coach Alex Durley led the Bruins to their only state championship. Breithaupt has also said he wouldn't be surprised if lower classifications one day adopt the four-team format as well. "Let's put it this way: You have a lot of third- and fourth-place teams who don't think it's a bad idea," he said.
  12. WHAT? They won? No way!! ::12 True need a great road trip.

  14. Audrey according to some of the old timers was terrible. Storm surge killed hundreds.
  15. Thanks. I've been looking at models the last hour or so. Just hard to say this far out. The one you put up, the northern track seems alot more reasonable than the southern tracks due to it's location right now.
  16. Cone of uncertainy! None of the computer models even really have it yet.
  17. Lee should be better this year, they have some great Athletes back.
  18. Dayton is in the District now and they have a super Running Back returning. BH continues to grow and have alot of their starters back.
  19. I always have as well...
  20. Represented Humble Well! Congrats!
  21. Brenham was mentioned a few times in the All Star game on Fox.
  22. BH will do a good job in 4A and WOS should go along way in 3A.
