Deweyville KIRBYVILLE — The Kirbyville Lady Wildcats downed the Deweyville Lady Pirates 21-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-19 in volleyball action Friday night at WIldcat Gym. Rebecca Morgan and Chelsea Hathaway both had five kills apiece for the Lady Pirates, who are now 1-1 for the season. The Lady Pirates will visit Spurger Tuesday.
  2. Lady Cardinals fall short to Ozen Gabriel Pruett The Orange Leader BRIDGE CITY — If Friday night was any indication, the Bridge City Lady Cardinals are going to be a hard win for opponents this season. The Lady Cardinals pushed another 4A power to the brink Friday as it took four games for Beaumont Ozen to win 19-25, 25-17, 25-23 and 25-18. The loss came days after Bridge City forced 4A Port Neches-Groves to four games. Friday the Lady Cardinals were led by a duo of juniors in Allison Angelle and Sara McPherson while lone senior Emily Kosh had another outstanding night of setting. Angelle easily led the match with 22 digs as the Bridge City libero. McPherson led the match with 20 kills to go with five aces and 13 digs. Kosh was the match leader with an amazing 30 assists and six aces. Brooklyn Hogden added five kills while Hailey Tally had six assists. Alexis Brannon was the leader for the Lady Panthers with 15 kills while Somalia Randle put in nine assists. The Lady Cardinals dug themselves a hole after winning Game 1. Bridge City committed 15 total errors in Game 2. The Lady Cardinals held a 12-7 lead before Brooke Frank stepped up to serve for Ozen. Frank hit for five straight service points to give the Lady Panthers a 13-12 lead. The run was aided by three Lady Cardinals’ errors. Bridge City did grab a 14-13 lead when McPherson served for an ace yet Ozen would soon grab the lead for good. Bria Thibodeaux led Game 3 off by serving and struck for five straight points. McPherson had three kills in the run. Ozen kept chipping at the lead and was helped out by another 18 errors from Bridge City. It seemed the only thing keeping Bridge City close was the stellar defense from the back line of Thibodeaux, who had nine digs, and Angelle. The two were all over the court and made it tough for Ozen to find any room to hit. Game 4 was much of the same for Bridge City with 15 errors. The game was close with Bridge City down 22-18 when Brannon came to serve. The Lady Cardinals had two errors in the game’s final three points as Ozen walked off with the victory. Kosh set the tone early in the first game four straight service points, including three aces, as Bridge City grabbed a 5-2 lead. Ozen went up 9-5 behind the serve of Frank. The Lady Cardinals tied it on an ace from Angelle at 13-13. Another ace from Kosh later put the Lady Cardinals up for good at 16-15.
