Gotta agree with Nederland on this one. I would have thought you would be required to get district approval first for any change of this magnitude. It may seem petty, but in a tight district race, every little bit can help. Oh well, water under the bridge at this point. UIL said it's Legal. -

Yes sir!!! The team for 2010 looks really really good. I think this year's team (09) is going to be better than some people think. -

Haynes, Mustangs win Titans Relays Tom Halliburton The Orange Leader PORT ARTHUR — James Haynes remembers his other time to win five events. That occasion hardly compares to Saturday. Kierra Roy knows for sure what her best event is now. Haynes dominated the boys races at the sixth annual Memorial Titans Relays, lifting his West Orange-Stark team to a boys title. Roy displayed the class of a fine, young sprinter as the Lady Titans really welcomed their new, glitzy synthetic track to their long-time Port Arthur ISD auxiliary field. Rather than being busy next winter with such matters, the 6-1 or taller Mustangs defensive back is dabbling through several A-1 football recruiting offers from the likes of Oklahoma, Texas, Florida, LSU and those kind. Haynes won the long jump, triple jump, 200 meters, and ran an anchor leg on two WO-S victorious relay teams. That's 40 of coach Toby Foreman's winning total of 149 points. Forty also may be enough points for WO-S to win a 3A state track and field championship in about six weeks. "I had to pick up some slack," Haynes said after he roared from behind to edge Aldine Nimitz, 1:31.25-1:31.65 in the 800-meter relay. Haynes also had to take up some slack for WO-S to edge Nimitz, 149-141, in the boys point total because his fellow college recruit and track superstar only competed in two events. That would be junior sprint star Trey Franks who did not perform at his all-time best but still maxed out at 15 points, winning the 100 and running a leg on the Mustangs' winning sprint relay. Trey strained a hip flexor during the long jump last week in the Atlanta Rabbit Relays. He appeared to definitely take his foot off the gas in the final 25 meters of Saturday's 100-meter dash, running a 10.81. Apparently Franks slightly strained his upper leg muscle by not stretching enough prior to the long jump. Yet Trey refused to make any excuses on Saturday. "I probably didn't stretch as much as I needed, but it really feels pretty good today," Franks said. "This is only the second time (this season) to run this race." The junior Franks offered a hint of faster times earlier this month in Beaumont when he zipped to a hand-held 10.15 at the Beaumont ISD/YMBL Relays. Another hint of faster times may exist in the WO-S sprint relay where Josh Gloston, Franks, Phillip Jones and Haynes clocked a 42.31 to overtake a good Aldine High team. "We have run a 41.8 though and that's the state's fastest time in 3A," Haynes said. "As long as we can stay consistent, we have a chance to win state. We didn't run in the 40s until last May. So I give us a good chance. We've just got to keep it up. We can't slack." print this story email this story comment on this story
