  7. BC boys, Silsbee girls win Bobcat Relays Van Wade The Orange Leader ORANGEFIELD — The Bridge City Cardinals went that “extra†distance to capture the boys division at the 35th Annual Bobcat Relays at Orangefield High School Friday. Cardinal Tim Cude captured the 3,200 meters in 10:04.96 and was second behind teammate Kirby Shepherd in the 1,600 meters with a time of 4:44.61. Shepherd nipped Cude at the end of that one, running a 4:44.58. Add in high-point boy Jerry Landry and the Cardinals tallied 127 points, outdistancing second-place Nederland (111). Landry was second in both the 100 meters (11.24) and the 200 meters (22.94) and placed third in both the long jump (19-9) and triple jump (40-8 3/4) to help spark the BC victory. The Silsbee Lady Tigers, sparked by high-point girl Chasity Foster, won the girls field with 113 points while the host Lady Bobcats were second with 92. On the boys’ side, Nederland’s Justin Krautz continues to have a banner season as the Bulldog claimed both the 400 meters (50.92) and the 800 meters (2:02.75). Defending Class 4A pole-vaulting champion Jared Parker, who leads the Southeast Texas area with a 15-6 vault this season, missed on all three attempts at 15 feet after passing on all of his early chances. Kirbyville’s Aaron Hazelwood, who also won the long jump (20-2 3/4) won the pole vault with a 13-6 effort. Parker entered the fray and immediately asked for the measurement to be 15 feet but came up short each time. Orangefield’s Adam Scales continues to flourish in the hurdles as he stormed to the 110-meter hurdles title, running a 15.76. Vidor’s Jared Williamson, who leads the area with a 6-6 high jump earlier in the season, won the event with a 6-4 mark Friday. He attempted 6-7 but barely clipped the bar on his last two attempts in trying to set a new standard. Little Cypress-Mauriceville’s Hayden Reed captured first in the shot put with a heave of 46-2 1/2. On the girls’ side of the ledger, Bridge City’s Mary Nguyen was a nice double-winner, winning both the 3,200 meters (12:53.91) and the 1,600 meters (5:52.61). West Orange-Stark’s Danielle Thomas stormed to the 200-meter title with a 26.76 and ran legs on both Lady Mustang victories in the 400 relay (49.75) and the 800 relay (1:46.05). Lady Bobcat freshman Kaitlynn Henson, who leads the area with a 5-1 effort, won the event for the fifth straight meet, this time on her home turf with a five foot effort. Foster had a big day for the Lady Tigers. She set a new area standard in the long jump, leaping 19-0 1/4. She also won the triple jump (38-0) and was second in the high jump (4-10).
