  6. Bears take two by downing Cats, Eagles Van Wade The Orange Leader LITTLE CYPRESS — LITTLE CYPRESS — After watching their respective tournament games get washed out last week, Little Cypress-Mauriceville and Orangefield along with Barbers Hill, are playing a little round robin action at Gibbens Field at LC-M High School this week. On Thursday, the home Bears picked up two wins, toppling Barbers Hill 8-3 and Orangefield 9-4 while Barbers Hill downed the Bobcats 7-6. In the win over the Bobcats, LC-M (10-6) used two two-run home runs hit by Stefan Cloeren and Dallas Brown in the sixth inning to pull away. Cloeren got the win on the hill for the Bears, pitching five innings of relief. He struck out three and walked one while allowing four hits. Tim Barry hurled the final inning for the Bears, striking out one. Matt Johnson started the game, allowing two hits and walking two. Zach Peevey started for the Bobcats (11-4), pitching four innings and allowing seven hits while fanning two and walking three. Chase Angelle tossed the final two frames, allowing two hits while striking out two and walking two. The Bobcats took a 2-0 lead after the top of the first. Jace Statum, who went 2-for-4, had a leadoff infield single and Johnathan DeRamus followed with a walk. Jacob Felts, who was 2-for-2, plated Statum with a single to left. With one out, Peevey brought home DeRamus with an RBI groundout to third. The Bears answered with two runs in the bottom of the first. Barry led off with a single and Wade Estes followed with a towering double off the leftfield wall. With two outs Stefan Leger, who was 2-for-3, roped a two-run single to right. Felts made it 3-2 in the third when he crushed a Cloeren offering over the leftfield fence for a solo dinger. The Bears rallied back with three runs in the fourth. Brandon Landry led off with a single to right and Scott Vaughan drew a walk. Barry sacrificed the runners over and Estes scored Landry with a single to center that Bobcat centerfielder Jace Statum nearly made a great diving catch on. After Cloeren sacrificed the runners over with a nice bunt, Johnson sliced a two-run single to left to plate both Vaughan and Estes for a 5-3 lead. The Bobcats got to within 5-4 in the sixth when Quinton Evans slapped a triple to right and scored off a Parker James RBI groundout to third. LC-M found the big sticks in the bottom half of the inning. Estes drew a leadoff walk and Cloeren ripped a Angelle pitch over the centerfield fence for a two-run jack. After Johnson drew a walk, Brown finished the scoring with a two-out, two-run home run over the leftfield wall. In the Bears’ 8-3 win over Barbers Hill, Kody Smith earned the win on the hill while Josh Veillon nabbed the save with three shutout innings. Leger went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI. Estes was 2-for-4 with a double. Johnson had a double, scored two runs and drove in two more. Cloeren had a double and scored twice while Vaughan added a double. In the Bobcats’ loss to Barbers Hill Quinton Evans was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Derrick Evans also had a home run. Angelle and Peevey both went 2-for-3 while Felts was 2-for-4.
