Price Jacobs and Mason Ball each went 2 for 2 with three runs scored Tuesday night to lead Goose Creek Memorial’s baseball team to a 12-4 win over Willis.
Jacobs also picked up the win on the mound for the Patriots by pitching a four-inning, one hit, seven-strikeout game.
In the fifth inning, head coach Chris Rupp made a pitching change and put in Dalton Going.
“We had a 10-run cushion, and that was a good time for our pitchers to get experience,†Rupp said.
The first batter came up and popped up to the catcher on the first pitch. Two more outs and the game would have ended because of the run rule.
But after a few errors by the Pats, and a double by Cameron Johnson, the Wildkats put together four runs and forced the game to continue.
The Pats strung together two more runs in the fifth, scoring on a wild pitch by Willis, and a RBI single by Josh Stewart.
“I am not very pleased with the defense at all,†Rupp said. “ We had a run-rule win in our sights, but because of a few errors, this ended up being a three-hour, seven inning game.â€
The Pats ended up with five errors in the game, including two in the fifth inning.
“I have no complaints about the offense tonight,†Rupp said. “Whenever you score 12 runs, your team has had a good game offensively.â€
The Pats ended the game with 10 total hits.
“We really need to just make the easy plays for us to be good,†Rupp said. “If our team wants to make the playoffs, and be a contender for first place, then we need to stop making errors.â€
With the win, the Pats improved their record to 5-2 overall.
Their next game will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday against Deer Park in the Gary Herrington Tournament. The Patriots will also play Aldine Eisenhower at 4 p.m. Thursday, with both games scheduled for Patriot Field.
