I highly doubt that. If that was the case why would they even interview the five finalist. Why wouldn't they just hire this coach? On top of that, the interviews have never even been made official by PNGISD. That is all message board / blog chatter. I highly doubt PNGISD is interviewing five candidates over the course of today and tomorrow at the direction of some coach who is calling all the shots. WHAT IS SEEING THE LIST GOING TO PROVE? PNGISD is going to hire the best candidate. This round table discussion is not going to amount to anything more than a chance for the media members to ridicule and bash PNGISD. Let's just hope they got ALL their facts straight before they start ripping them. A lot of credibility can be lost quickly airing out dirty laundry that is fabricated and not based in fact. Maybe even more than 5. -
WO-S Bus Transportation voted down
KFDM COOP replied to WO-S 89's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
That's new? How else do you deal with problems? I don't think I needed the president for that one. I thought Obama preached "Spreading The Wealth". With that logic maybe another richer school district could provide transportation ;D The crazy thing is the school district has plenty of money. The State makes us give it away to poorer school districts and now we have a 2 mill. deficit. I'm not a math major but something doesn't add up. Sure don't. -

Am I the only one that wants to know how we get 2 mill. deficit and then start worrying about how to cut? The whole thing is a mess and yes it is going to be ugly. My problem is how did it get this way. Who wasn't on watch when they were supposed to be. I know it isn't as easy as this but it just seems as though you would see it coming. No kidding!!! : -

Coop, do you mean for greener pastures or not of their own choosing? I may be reading somehting into this, but I think you are thinking that a local coach may be moving to another local school? Coop is like the Shadow...he knows, but no one else does. I'm just saying there will be more openings.

High School Umpires going on strike?? What is the word in your area? UIL to TASO, "Accept the pay-scale as it is, work or don't work." Multiple baseball officials and umpires in Houston on Saturday, confirmed the U.I.L. spoke to the statewide TASO Chapters, and confirmed they would not negotiate a new pay-scale for the 2009 season. One member of the TASO Baseball Officials and Umpires told KTBB Sports, "They admitted it was a bad rule, but it was accept the rules as they are, either work, or don't work." The Tyler Chapter of Baseball Officials and Umpires remain committed to not working U.I.L. member schools this season, and they presented a two-option proposal to the U.I.L., and although the option was well received by the TASO membership, the U.I.L. would not discuss it, accept it, and nothing has changed. Another TASO member at the meeting in Houston told KTBB Sports, "They wouldn't even take membership questions, they walked away without discussion." The Tyler Chapter also asked the state membership to unify in an effort to act as an organization and not as individual Chapters. That comment brought a standing ovation, but not all Chapters have voted to strike against the U.I.L..

PN-G girls soccer looks to capitalize on opportunties By RYAN S. CLARK January, 21, 2009 In the eight years Aimee Bates has coached Port Neches-Groves girls' soccer team, she has seen her teams post multiple 10-plus win seasons and make respectable playoff runs. This season's squad is giving Bates something else to look at. ``This is the best team I have had since I've been here,'' Bates said. So far, the Indians have lived up to Bates' praise by starting the season with a 7-0-1 record after a 1-0 victory Tuesday against Silsbee. PN-G entered this season ninth in the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches Girls 4A Region III rankings. During PN-G's hot start has been two victories against West Brook, a Class 5A school with recent playoff appearances, and one against Vidor. Bates said this season's early success has been the result of a few changes. The first and arguably most important change has been PN-G's on-field formation. Last season, the team mainly used a 4-4-2 formation, which provides four defenders, four midfielders and two strikers. The formation gave the Indians balance but did not always result in goals. Now, the team is using a 4-3-2-1 scheme often referred to as the ``Christmas Tree'' formation because of what it looks like on paper. By having three central midfielders and two attacking midfielders supporting the striker, the formation allows PN-G to create more scoring opportunities. ``In previous years we'd have possession and it was great,'' Bates said. ``The problem was we could never really do much with it. This year, we have been able to score.'' Should those changes continue to work, it could benefit the Indians this weekend in the Longview Varsity Tournament where they will play Lindale, which beat PN-G in a Class 4A area round playoff game last season. Senior left winger Alexis Smithy said she's benefited from the changes of playing closer to the forward. ``Last year, coach Bates had those of us who were her outside players play really wide,'' Smithy said. ``This year, it's different. With this formation, we are pinched in more up top and it allows us to create opportunities on offense.'' Another change for the team has been playing on the new Field Turf at Indian Stadium instead of on natural grass. Indian Stadium, built in 1951, is still undergoing a $10.2 million renovation effort that began in 2008. Part of that renovation effort was replacing the stadium grass with Field Turf, an artificial surface that needs little maintenance compared to grass. Bates said playing on the new surface has allowed the team to be quicker with its passing options. ``On grass we'd get about five to seven yards per pass,'' she said. ``With the turf we get around 15 yards a pass.'' Senior goalkeeper Breanne Martin said she loves playing on the turf. Martin said playing on grass and the turf is noticeable. She said by this point in the season, the goalie's area might be uneven and unkempt due to wear and tear. But with the turf, she does not have that problem. ``Another thing that is different is when I slide for a ball, I stick to the grass. I don't stick to this stuff,'' she said. ``This stuff, it'll definitely it keeps you in shape because you have to work harder.'' Smithy said playing on the surface does give the team a bit of a home field advantage but they still find a way to stay sharp when they have to play games on regular grass. ``We play our home games on this and we practice on the grass fields behind the school,'' Smithy said. ``I mean, there's no other way to say it but really we kill two birds with one stone.''

espn Ex-Falcon Dronett, 38, dies at home Comment Email Print Associated Press ATLANTA -- Shane Dronett, who played 10 years in the NFL and started every game for the Atlanta Falcons' 1998 Super Bowl team, was found dead at his home on Wednesday. He was 38. According to a statement from the Gwinnett County police department, officers were called to Dronett's home near Atlanta on Wednesday morning in response to a possible suicide. Police spokesman Illana Spellman confirmed Dronett's body was found at the residence. The medical examiner's office was examining the body to determine the cause of death. Dronett played at the University of Texas and was a second-round pick by Dan Reeves and the Denver Broncos in 1992. "As a coach, your players are your extended family, and anytime you lose someone it is like losing a loved one," said David McWilliams, who coached Dronett at Texas and is now director of the Longhorn Letter Winners Association. "I will always remember Shane's wry smile, his laughter, and the fact that he seemed so full of life. He was a great player, and was one of those rare guys who even liked practice. "It is a shock and a tragedy to lose someone so young." As Atlanta's coach, Reeves brought Dronett to the Falcons in 1996 and said Wednesday the 6-foot-6, 300-pound defensive tackle was a key player when the Falcons made a run to Super Bowl before losing 34-19 to Denver in Miami. "He was an integral part of our football team," Reeves said. "He was really a good player. He gave us a lot of depth there. He was a happy go lucky guy. He was fun to be around, was always smiling and was the type of player you look for on a football team." Dronett, from Orange, Texas, is survived by his wife, Chris, and two daughters. "My prayers go out for Chris and her two daughters," Reeves said. "You hate to lose anybody at any time but when your kids are high school age or younger it makes it tough, and it's tough for Chris." Dronett had 48 tackles and 6½ sacks in 1998 and again made 16 starts and recorded 6½ sacks in 1999. Dronett made 86 starts and had 44 sacks in 139 career games. He had 38 tackles and 5½ sacks in 15 games in 2001, his last season as an active player. He remained on the team's roster before he was released following the 2002 season. "The entire Atlanta Falcons family is saddened by the news of Shane Dronett's passing," owner Arthur Blank said. "Our deepest condolences are with his family during this difficult time." Reeves said he most recently saw Dronett at a Falcons reunion this season. "He was there and looked great," Reeves said. Reeves said he also recently tried to assist Dronett in a business venture.

Indians blank Silsbee, 3-0 PREP SOCCER The Port Arthur News SILSBEE -- Peter Zimmerman and Aaron Lasseigne took turns at spying on standout Silsbee offensive weapon Matthew Deaver and Port Neches-Groves found enough offense to easily dominate a 3-0 boys soccer win Tuesday night at Tiger Stadium. Coach Don Sandell's Tribe (2-3) scored twice in the first half and once in the second half with the goalkeeper duties divided between sophomore Brady Martin in the first half and freshman Micah Murdock in the second. PN-G clearly took enough shots to win by a larger margin, leading in shots on goal, 21-5. "We weren't as sharp offensively as we would have liked to be," Sandell said. "I thought Silsbee's aggressiveness slowed us up some but our defense did a good job of shutting down Deaver. We tried to never lose sight of him because he's so elusive." Junior left-footed midfielder Greg Flores hooked in a corner kick from the right corner for the game's first goal in the 15th minute. Fifteen minutes later, the Indians' Doug Benton assisted Ryan Golmon, who eluded a defender and fired a shot over the goalkeeper's head. Tanner Worley padded the lead to 3-0 with an assist from Zimmerman with 12 minutes left in the game. PN-G's Sandell credited Silsbee (2-2) and its new head coach Seth Durant for playing such a competitive game. The Indians play Friday at noon in the Brenham Showcase tournament against a new high school, Boerne Champion.

Nederland girls 2, Goose Creek Memorial 0 BAYTOWN -- The motivation for Julie Johnson's Lady Bulldogs in this one arrived last Friday in a mini-game at the PN-G tournament when Goose Creek Memorial defeated Nederland 2-0. Given another chance to face their opponent, the Nederlanders (5-2-1) arrived much more focused for the rematch, outshooting the new Baytown-area school 18-5 and winning 2-0. "Yes, they were disappointed last Friday that they did not win that mini-game and they played a really good game tonight," Johnson said. Austyn David scored midway in the opening half off a corner kick from Layken Richard. Jacie Bell doubled Nederland's lead 27 minutes into the second half after taking an assist from Megan Melancon. The Nederland defense played well enough that sophomore goalkeeper Bianca Garza only had two assists. Nederland will invade Fort Bend County this weekend to compete in the Lamar Consolidated ISD girls tournament. The Lady Dogs will compete on Thursday in mini-games with fellow pool competitors Houston Reagan, Waller and tourney host Lamar Consolidated.
