  2. Nikki Williams Named SLC Player Of The Week BEAUMONT - Lamar senior guard Nikki Williams was named the Southland Conference women's basketball player of the week as voted upon by the league's sports information directors. Williams, a native of White Castle, La., receives her first weekly award of the season and team's first after leading the Lady Cardinals to consecutive conference wins over UT Arlington and McNeese State. The 5-5 guard led LU to a pair of conference wins last week, averaging 22.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game as the Lady Cardinals took down UTA and McNeese. In Wednesday's win over the Mavs, she drained five three-pointers while scoring a game-high 22 points. In Saturday's victory over McNeese, Williams posted season-highs in points and rebounds with a double-double, scoring 23 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, five of which came on the offensive end of the floor. Williams currently leads all scorers in the SLC with 17.5 points per game in league play, and is in a tie for first with nine steals. Williams and the Lady Cardinals will be back in action on Wednesday night when they travel to Corpus Christi, Texas to take on the A&M Corpus Christi Islanders at 7 p.m.
  3. Not important. When you start to ask where I live, that can be taken as a threat........You are not "getting what we are crabbing about." Somehow there are people in the PNG area that think they can do whatever. What one group must do, all must do....Rules folks, rules. I am not thrilled with FOI, but we got to follow the rules. If PNGISD was doing it for the good of all in education, they would have done it for something other than the coaching applicants. Has it been 10 days since the FOI was filed? Is it ten business days? Has a law been broken yet if it has not been 10 days? By the way, what school district do you live in? When the AG said they had to release it last week, PN-G filed another deal. That could take up to 45 days from last week. But i found out today several Petitions were being signed and would be sent to the AG this week, so i would think the list would be released anytime.

  5. Not sure, i would have to go back and look. It was on their site.
  6. IT'S A LAW THEY HAVE TO! [Hidden Content] Under Section 552.304(a) of the Texas Public Information Act, PN-G ISD should be required to release this information. But they're stalling. So we ask you, gentle readers, to get involved. Any letter you send does not need to be elaborate or detailed. The AG is clear on the law; the issues worth underscoring here are the high level of interest in the information and the accountability of an elected body. If you don't, these school boards will just continue to snow the general public -- using your tax dollars to do whatever they want. Sound familiar? Just remember, citizen journalists: if you submit a comment, please copy the school district (the contact info is on the above letter), as required by 552.304(.
  7. WO-C board will review busing for athletes By MARGARET TOAL January, 19, 2009 A citizens group is expected to appear before the West Orange-Cove school board Tuesday night to ask the district to reinstate after-school busing for middle school and high school athletes. The board has scheduled a special meeting at 6 p.m. in the administration building, 505 N. 15th St. in Orange. In addition, the board will discuss making students pass TAKS exams in order to participate in extracurricular activities like sports, band and drama. Skip Moore has helped organize the West Orange-Stark Athletic Association to try to get the board to reverse its November decision to cut out the special busing. The district has provided bus rides home to many middle school and high school athletes after practices and games beginning in 1977 when Lutcher Stark and West Orange high schools combined, said WO-C Athletic Director Dan Hooks. The board voted to cut out the busing service to save money and it stopped when the spring semester started in January. Moore said he and others in the district are concerned for the safety of students having to walk long distances home in the dark.
