No. 14 Woodville eases past BC, 81-51 Gabriel Pruett The Orange Leader BRIDGE CITY — Let it be known, the No. 14 Woodville Lady Eagles are legit. Woodville improved to 9-1 on the young season with a 81-51 road victory over the Bridge City Lady Cardinals Tuesday night. Bridge City (4-9) got a team-high 17 points from Jordan Royal while Hailey Talley had 15, coming off five three-pointers. Whitney Knippers finished with 12 points. Royal also led the team with six rebounds. Woodville, who led 25-14 after the first period, put four players in double figures. Samantha Gilden had a team-high 17 while Brooke Taylor added 13. Ashley Mitchell and Meisha McNeal each had 12 and Kayla Humphrey finished with 11 points. The Lady Eagles out-rebounded the Lady Cardinals 32-19 as Gilden pulled down nine boards and McNeal had eight rebounds. Woodville was tough around the basket all night long as the Lady Eagles used crisp passing to get shots near the goal. In fact the Lady Eagles never once attempted a free throw in the contest. Woodville would extend its lead in the second quarter as the Lady Eagles grabbed a 43-25 advantage at the break. Gilden had 11 points at half-time while McNeal had 10 points. Destiny Gill got hot for the Lady Eagles in the third period as she connected for eight of her nine points after the break. Bridge City meanwhile struggled from the field in the third and could only muster up five points. Woodville won the period 19-5 and held a 62-30 lead heading into the fourth. Knippers and Royal both got hot for the Lady Cardinals in the fourth. Knippers had 10 of her 12 points in the fourth while Royal had eight. Both teams finished with 25 turnovers. Bridge City finished with 10 fouls compared to one for Woodville. The Lady Cardinals return to action when they play host to Newton next Tuesday.
