  10. Lady Cats drown Lady Bucs in 5 Gabriel Pruett The Orange Leader ORANGEFIELD — The Orangefield Lady Bobcats are playing some good volleyball this year. After taking third place in the YMBL Tournament this past weekend, the Lady Bobcats fought off East Chambers Tuesday night in five games. Orangefield (12-4) won the match 25-20, 25-15, 21-25, 22-25 and 15-7. Senior Allie Beach and junior Aimee Scales became the differences in the final match. Beach was a force up front and Scales’ serve provided the last six of the 15 points. Scales, who had been using a jump serve the entire match, went to a more conventional serve in the final game and it worked to perfection. Scales, who finished with10 kills, served up two straight aces to make it 11-7 right before Beach went to work. Beach threw down a kill off an assist from Olivia Wagner to make it 12-7 before the next EC shot found the net. Beach, who led the match with 13 kills and five aces, then blocked a Lady Bucs shot right before knocking home the games final point off an assist from Jessica Weldon. “When she is on, it is set Allie every time,†Orangefield Coach Kristin Holbrooks said. “I have been very lucky because when she is on it means the rest of the girls are fired up. We are also happy to have Aimee back. She is definitely going to help.†Scales had been out several matches with an ankle injury. Wagner continued her great play as the Lady Bobcats setter with 30 kills on the night, a match high. The senior also put in five kills and two aces. Kaitlynn Henson finished with nine kills while Ashton Wagner put in six kills. The Lady Bobcats cruised through the first two games. Game 1 was tied at 17 before Beach went to work from serve. Beach hit for five straight points, including three aces, to give Orangefield a 21-17 lead. Henson then finished the game off with three straight service points. East Chambers held a slim 7-6 lead in Game 2 before Orangefield took control for good. Olivia Wagner connected for five straight service points to give Orangefield a 12-7 advantage. The Lady Bucs could never recover in Game 2 yet found ways to pick apart the Lady Bobcats in Games 3 and 4. “For some odd reason we are the type of team that needs to be down so we can come,†Holbrooks said. “We really need to correct that before those tough district games come. We are getting there.†The Lady Bobcats did a lot of helping the Lady Bucs out in the middle games. Orangefield had 10 errors in Game 3 and another 15 in Game 4. All in all, Holbrooks was pleased with the win and pleased with her team at this point in the season. “I really could not be any happier with where we are,†Holbrooks said. “We hope to still make progress in a few areas but we are at a good point. I think we are right where we need to be before district.†The Lady Bobcats travel to face the Liberty Lady Panthers this Friday. Orangefield opens District 21-3A play on Sept. 23 at West Orange-Stark.

  12. LCM sweeps Central Van Wade The Orange Leader LITTLE CYPRESS — Jumping out of the gate with some flair, the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears are off to a 2-0 District 20-4A start after making ck work of the Beaumont Central Lady Jaguars 25-13, 25-12, 25-13 at the Bear Cave Tuesday night. The Lady Bears (16-7, 2-0) got on the right 20-4A footing last Friday when they downed the Port Neches-Groves Lady Rock-A-Noos in five grueling games. The Lady Bears dominated the Lady Jaguars (0-1 in district) in quick fashion, trailing just once in the entire match at 3-4 in Game Three. Once again junior standout Christine Sicktich spearheaded the Lady Bears attack and once again she had plenty of help from her teammates. Sicktich powered her way to 16 kills, seven service points and an ace. Ashton LaVergne was strong at the net as well, posting six kills. Maci Wilcox roamed for five kills while Elissa Tate had four and Jenna Procella added three. LC-M's service game was on throughout too as the Lady Bears notched nine aces. Shayna Sheppard, who had a stout defensive outing, served up 13 points and had three aces. Brittany Wiegand had nine points and three aces. Carly Gauthier pumped out eight points and added three kills while Shelby Sanchez served up five points and two aces. "Being 2-0 in district, that's where the kids want to be," said long-time Lady Bear head coach Vicki Castino. "Central played really well tonight but we moved the ball around well with a lot of assists and we hit the ball in perfect spots" Nakeisha Washington had a nice outing for the Lady Jaguars, collecting nine kills while teammate Marguerite Sharp added four. Sharp also had three service points while Shametriss Mose had two points and an ace and Destyni Jubert had two points and an ace. Next up for the Lady Bears, the District 21-3A favorites Silsbee Lady Tigers on the road Friday in a non-district tilt. "Silsbee has such a strong team, so it will be a good test for us," said Castino. "It's a good match to have with district going. You need as many good tests as you can get. We feel like we're on the right track, especially with the win at PN-G last week. There are plenty more tough teams in our district. I keep telling them one bad night and you can get beat. I'm very proud of them tonight. They came out focused and ready to go."
  13. Congrats!!!

  15. THE EYE HAS BEEN WOBBLING AROUND AGAIN BUT THE MEAN MOTION IS NEAR 300/8. THE PRIMARY STEERING MECHANISM FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS SHOULD BE THE FLOW TO THE SOUTH OF A DEEP-LAYER RIDGE NEAR THE NORTHERN GULF COAST. LATER IN THE FORECAST PERIOD...IKE SHOULD MAKE A TURN AROUND THE WESTERN PERIPHERY OF THE RIDGE. THERE IS STILL A QUESTION AS TO HOW SOON THIS TURN WILL BEGIN. THE TRACK MODELS ARE IN CLOSE AGREEMENT ON THE MOTION UP TO ABOUT 72 HOURS. AFTERWARD THERE IS STILL SOME DISAGREEMENT ON THE TRAJECTORY AND FORWARD SPEED. THE LATEST RUNS OF THE GFS AND GFDL MODELS HAVE SHIFTED A LITTLE SOUTHWARD BUT THE OVERALL DYNAMICAL MODEL CONSENSUS HAS NOT CHANGED APPRECIABLY. THE OFFICIAL TRACK FORECAST FOR THIS PACKAGE IS QUITE SIMILAR TO THE PREVIOUS ONE. AGAIN...ONE SHOULD NOT FOCUS ON THE EXACT LANDFALL FORECAST POINT DUE TO THE INHERENT UNCERTAINTIES.
