Swimmers find success at Vidor contest Tommy Mann, Jr. The Orange Leader VIDOR — The most attended swim competition of the season this past Saturday has left little doubt that swimmers have their sights set on the championship meet on July 31. Swimmers representing the City of Orange Swim Team (COST) and Vidor Area Swim Team (VAST) participated in the fourth meet of the year at the Vidor City Pool this past Saturday, and each met with various levels of success. VAST swimmer Zoe Bahl won the Girls 9-10 100 Meter Individual Medley (IM) in 1:47.31, while teammate Joel Schiesler placed second in the boys division in 1:55.04. Carly Bessire of VAST finished in second place in the Girls 11-12 100 Meter IM in 1:33.07, while COST’s Rylan Odom also placed second in the boys division in 1:37.70. Jessica Shelley of VAST finished in second place as well in the Girls 15-16 race in 1:58.31. In the Girls 6 and Under 25 Meter Freestyle, Presley Alexander of COST roared to a first place victory with a time of 25.09 seconds, more than 8 seconds ahead of runner-up. Teammate Cameron Dischler also finished in first place in the boys division in 27.95 seconds. COST swimmer Ashley Umbenhaur claimed second in the Girls 7-8 division in 26.22 seconds, as did teammate Nicholas Anthony in the Boys 9-10 25 Meter Freestyle race in 18.16 seconds. Ricki King of COST placed third in the Girls 7-8 50 Meter Freestyle with a time of 58.01 seconds, while Zoe Bahl of VAST won her second race of the day, the Girls 9-10 50 Meter Freestyle, in 40.40 seconds. Jordan Alexander and Kaghan Odom, both of COST, placed first and second, respectively, in the Boys 7-8 50 Meter Freestyle. Alexander won with a time of 45.88 seconds and Odom in 49.18 seconds. Joel Schiesler of VAST finished in second place in the Boys 9-10 50 Meter Freestyle in 41.23 seconds. In the Girls 11-12 50 Meter Freestyle, Carly Bessire of VAST finished in second place with a time of 35.01 seconds. Meanwhile, in the boys division, Blake LeBlanc of COST placed first in 37.10 seconds and Rylan Odom finished in second place in 37.70 seconds. Eddie Dyess of VAST was a close third with a time of 38.30 seconds. VAST’s Lucas Wolfe placed second in the Boys 13-14 50 Meter Freestyle in 32.75 seconds and Victoria Richardson finished in third place in the Girls 15-16 50 Meter race in 35.76 seconds. Josiah Phares of COST claimed second in the Boys 15-16 race in 28.98 seconds, and teammate Will Cowart finished second in the Boys 17-19 division in 27.73 seconds. COST used the one-two punch of Paige Perales and Kristen Blanke in the Girls 13-14 100 Meter Freestyle to add more points to the team total for the day. Perales finished first with a time of 1:10.77, while Blanke claimed second place in 1:28.41. Kayla Lee of VAST finished first in the Girls 15-16 100 Meter race in 1:24.29, while COST swimmer Abbi Gayle LeDoux finished second in 1:27.98. Stephani Dyess of VAST placed third. Cassey Brown of VAST claimed first place in the Girls 17-19 100 Meter Freestyle in 1:15.24, while teammate Ashley Mann placed third in 1:23.38. Michael Dupre of COST won the Boys 13-14 100 Meter race in 1:16.49 and Damian Mann of VAST finished in third place in the Boys 15-16 division in 1:14.84. In the Boys 7-8 25 Meter Butterfly, Jordan Alexander of COST finished in second place with a time of 29.52 seconds, and teammate Kaghan Odom placed third in 33.26 seconds. Teammate Nicholas Anthony claimed third place in the Boys 9-10 division, while Shelby Perales, also of COST, finished in second place in 23.19 seconds. Lawson Flores of VAST won the Boys 11-12 25 Meter Butterfly in 23.81 seconds, just ahead of COST swimmer Joshua Howard, who placed second in 24.42 seconds, and Connor Alexander, also of COST, who finished in third place in 27.95 seconds. Carly Bessire of COST took second in the Girls 11-12 50 Meter Butterfly in 40.50 seconds, while Kaghan Odom of COST won the boys division in 45.51 seconds. Blake LeBlanc of COST added a third place finish in 52.70 seconds. Paige Perales of COST just missed out on a win in the Girls 13-14 50 Meter Butterfly with a second place finish in 37.85 seconds. However, teammate Michael Dupre soared to a win in the boys division in 39.38 seconds. Victoria Richardson of VAST won the Girls 15-16 50 Meter race in 44.04 seconds, while Abbi Gayle LeDoux of COST claimed second place. Will Cowart of COST missed out on a win by .02 seconds with a second place finish in the Boys 17-19 50 Meter Butterfly in 33.05 seconds. Meanwhile, VAST swimmer Kayla Lee finished in third place in the Girls 15-16 100 Meter Butterfly with a time of 1:41.99. COST swimmer Presley Alexander added another win to the team total with a first place time of 36.41 seconds in the Girls 6 and Under 25 Meter Backstroke, as did teammate Cameron Dischler who won the Boys 6 and Under race with a time of 32.52 seconds. Kaghan Odom and Jordan Alexander, both of COST, placed first and second, respectively, in the Boys 7-8 25 Meter Backstroke. Odom won with a time of 24.90 seconds, and Alexander claimed second in 26.11 seconds. Zoe Bahl of VAST placed second in the Girls 9-10 25 Meter Backstroke with a time of 22.47 seconds, while Nicholas Anthony of COST won the boys division in a time of 23.02 seconds. Tyler Root of VAST was third in 27.44 seconds. Rylan Odom of COST won the Boys 11-12 50 Meter Backstroke in 45.94 seconds, just ahead of teammate Blake LeBlanc who finished second in 46.57 seconds. Eddie Dyess of VAST placed third in 47.11 seconds. COST swimmer Paige Perales won the Girls 13-14 50 Meter Backstroke in a time of 40.41 seconds, while teammate Tricia Newman claimed third in 44.38 seconds. Michael Dupre, also of COST, finished in second place in the boys age group with a time of 38.54 seconds and Lucas Wolfe of VAST placed third in 43.95 seconds. VAST teammate Kayla Lee added a second place finish in the Girls 15-16 50 Meter Backstroke as well with a time of 44.92 seconds. COST’s Jim Bean placed second in the Boys 17-19 50 Meter Backstroke in 58.58 seconds. Victoria Richardson of VAST finished in second place in the Girls 15-16 100 Meter Backstroke in 1:41.02, and teammate Cassey Brown added her own second place finish in the Girls 17-19 100 Meter race with a time of 1:21.65 seconds. In the Girls 7-8 Breaststroke, Ricki King of COST finished in second place with a time of 39.50 seconds, but teammate Jordan Alexander added another win to his total for the day with a victory in the boys division with a time of 28.39 seconds. Zoe Bahl of VAST added a second place finish in the Girls 9-10 25 Meter Breaststroke in 31.15 seconds, while Desiree LaForge, also of VAST, placed third in 31.24 seconds. Teammate Carly Bessire won the Girls 11-12 50 Meter Breaststroke in 48.64 seconds, as did VAST’s Eddie Dyess in the boys division with a time of 52.63 seconds. Chase LeDoux of COST barely missed out on the win with a second place finish of 52.67 seconds. Tricia Newman of COST finished second in the Girls 13-14 50 Meter Breaststroke in 50.23 seconds. Kayla Lee of VAST won the Girls 15-16 50 Meter race in 51.58 seconds, while COST swimmer Abbi Gayle LeDoux placed second and Emily Blanke of COST claimed third. Teammate Josiah Phares won the boys age group in 38.53 seconds, and Megan Phares, also of COST, won the Girls 17-19 50 Meter Breaststroke in 46.53 seconds. In the Boys 17-19 50 Meter Breaststroke, Jim Bean of COST finished in third place with a time of 57.57 seconds. Kenedie King of COST won the Girls 13-14 100 Meter Breaststroke with a time of 2:21.36, was did teammate Kaci Naquin in the Girls 15-16 100 Meter race in 1:55.49. Michael Dupre, also of COST, added another victory to his daily total, this time in the Boys 13-14 100 Meter Breaststroke in 1:49.47. VAST swimmer Chase Bunch placed second in 2:00.91. In the Boys 17-19 100 Meter Breaststroke, Will Cowart of COST finished in second place in a time of 1:27.93, while 11-year-old teammate Joshua Howard participated in the same race and finished third. Several COST relay teams found success at the Vidor meet as well. In the Mixed 8 and Under 100 Meter Freestyle Relay, the team of Kaghan Odom, Whitley Hoyland, Ricki King and Jordan Alexander placed first with a time of 1:31.19, while, in the Mixed 10 and Under 100 Meter Freestyle Relay, the team of Elijah Vigil, Aaron Blowers, Evie Bowen and Nicholas Anthony also claimed first place in a time of 1:26.75. The team of Tricia Newman, Savannah Sheppard, Ivy Casteel and Paige Perales won the Mixed 14 and Under 100 Meter Freestyle Relay in 1:04.50. VAST and COST swimmers will travel to Pinewood Saturday for the final regular competition of the season before the championship meet on July 31.
